  1. I understand some of the trepidation when the vaccines first came out. But the numbers are now clear - indisputable. And other than extremely rare reactions, there have been essentially zero side effects from them. And even the reactions are generally no big deal. A lady I know had anaphylactic shock after her first shot. But she still went for her 2nd, because anaphylaxis (with medical staff present) > COVID. I still have a few friends who are holding out. I don’t understand it at all, at this point. But they aren’t “anti-vax” - they don’t actively try to persuade others not to protect themselves, and they follow safety guidelines to a T. At the end of the day, it’s their choice, and they’re still my friends. If any of them were actually anti-vaxxers though, I’d worry about them, and try to convince them to seek psychological help. It’s one thing to make a decision for yourself, it’s another to reject public safety, and invade others’ choices to protect their families. Like that guy from Texas running the restaurant that kicked people out for wearing masks. That guy is messed in the head, and he’s dangerous to himself and others.
  2. Lowe was essentially Edler, only he would fight too. Tough 2-way guy, who would put up big points in his earlier days, but who became a more defensive guy as he aged (and the team he played for was less dominate too). Had we won in 2011, we’d probably be putting Edler in the rafters too. Plus Lowe is in the HHOF. The guy played over 1,450 games (including playoffs), and won 6 cups. Sure, the cups had more to do with the stars he got to play with, but still…hard to argue with those numbers.
  3. Yes, that was another thing I read. Don’t watch TV, or go on your devices in bed. Keep your mental association of being in your bed to sleep. That was something I also stuck to, especially at first to help break the cycle. Another thing I find helps is not playing video games late. And if I’m on my phone during the night (like right now - son woke me up, and having trouble getting back to sleep), make sure nightshift/night-mode is on. This filters out blue light, which stimulates the brain and makes it think it’s daytime. You can also get glasses that filter out blue light, if you like watching TV at night.
  4. I had a bout of insomnia a couple of years ago. I found it related to stomach issues. When I ate something that wasn’t agreeing with me, I felt more anxious about everything (which is not normal for me), and pressure in my stomach prevented me from sleeping. I ended up cutting out dairy completely, and that helped a lot. But still, if I’m having trouble sleeping, I’ll take melatonin or Benadryl (alternate, and try not to take either more than a couple times a week so i don’t get dependent).
  5. Pearson has a full NTC this year, but it turns into just a 7-team no-trade list next year, and in the last year of the deal there’s no clause at all. So both the team and the player are probably expecting a trade. It becomes more likely once Podkolzin is established as a bona fide top-6 guy. Add in someone like Gadjovich or Lockwood surprising, and it could be as soon as next offseason.
  6. Think I was there. Saw Pearl Jam 3 times - once in Vancouver, but twice in Seattle. My first concert ever was the Seattle show for the No Logo tour (sold out in 5 minutes, but my Buddy got tickets for us).
  7. Buffalo Trace. Made old fashions earlier (got the smoke gun out and everything), but now just having it straight. Too relaxed to bother…
  8. This gem came on Spotify for me today. Hadn’t heard it in years. Don’t like the mechanical noises in the video though. But the animation is great.
  9. It’s a virus. They happen. It would have mostly just affected China if the rest of the world didn’t sit on their hands before it was too late.
  10. Seriously though, that sucks. Hope they get better, and make better decisions going forward.
  11. Can’t be proven, but “widely accepted”?
  12. Carolina Hurricanes Pre-Training Camp Report Looking forward very much to the new season. Last year we were coming in fresh off a Cup win, and the COVID cap crunch led to some depth problems. We were unable to ice a full roster to start the season, and we didn't even get any back-up goalie points until March! And although there were a number of players who went deep into the playoffs and produced, we didn't have the depth to get through the first round. We tried to add at the deadline, but just didn't have the cap space to do anything impactful. But this year will be different. We have Jake Allen ready to go as our backup, who will no doubt be getting a starter's workload until Price is back. And we were able to acquire much more depth throughout the lineup. We expect to have a much better regular season, which will hopefully give us a better 1st round match-up. And there is still a few million of cap space to work with, either now, or at the deadline. All-in-all, we're ready to roll. A. Ovechkin - K. Hayes - R. Smith A. Lee - N. Kadri - A. Burakovsky W. Carrier - R. Colton - J. Archibald N. Deslauriers - K. Rooney - B. Ritchie V. Hedman - M. Sergachev B. Chiarot - N. Schmidt N. Holden - D. Forbort B. Smith A. Vasilevskiy J. Allen We have 2 roster spots up for grabs, with a bunch of guys ready to fight for them, including: Sam Carrick, Tyce Thompson, Radim Zohorna, Kirill Semyonov, Simon Ryfors, Brett Murray, Maxim Letunov, Jesper Sellgren, Ryan Shea, and Eetu Makiniemi. Competition in camp should be fierce, and we expect to have some solid options for call-up when injuries arise. It's going to be a great year! Let's get the trash talk started!
  13. You’re underrating Foegele severely. Ryan too is a guy who has great underlying numbers. And I think Keith still has a lot of value. That said, any improvements they made could easily be undone by Smith regressing (likely), and Ceci being Ceci. Not a fan of how Holland used the opportunity he had this offseason… but am a Canucks fan, so GOOD!
  14. The last 2 big RFA deals Benning signed - Boeser and Horvat - both dragged into camp. They both ended up solid deals for the team. Don’t expect this to turn out differently.
  15. My wife saw her years ago (touring with Sting), and has always raved about what a great show it was. A lot of time has passed since then…but all indications are she’s still got it…
  16. Carolina puts Mikael Pyyhtia on our 2nd ELC slide. @Nail
  17. Garland is the same size as Brayden Point. Hoglander is the same size as both Johnson and Gourde. How did they fare in the playoffs?
  18. Welcome one and all! Happy to fill up on a lot of nice depth pieces. Training camp can’t come soon enough…
  19. You’d have to pay to get a team to take Myers’ $6M. But this is the problem with signings like Pearson and Poolman. Not that they were significant overpays on their own, just that they backed the team into a corner, somewhat unnecessarily.
  20. Carolina places Lukas Svejkovsky on ELC slide. @Nail
  21. Stone is a decent #7/8 guy, and must gel with the team. At league minimum it’s good for both sides.
  22. Another one for @-DLC-. This one is special - soak it in.
