  1. With pick 119, Carolina selects Ole Bjørgvik Holm. @Dion Phaneuf
  2. With pick 117, Carolina selects Elliot Desnoyers. @Nail
  3. That was me just 5 mins ago! Except I have the 1.75L bottle. Almost the same glass too.
  4. There’s a team who just went to the Finals, who likely has over $7.5M of LTIR relief coming, who needs a top-pairing RD. That’s suddenly a perfect fit. The crazy thing is though, there is definitely a strong team that can afford him and has a spot for him: the Carolina Hurricanes. But they aren’t going to overpay anyone. And they would know better than anyone what he’s really worth.
  5. The problem was, there was a strong possibility that both players would retire after next year. (Their salary drops to $2mil, then $1mil for 2 years.) So if they didn’t buy them out, they’d get no cap relief this year, lose Dumba in the expansion draft, and then get stuck with a $18.6mil of cap recapture for each player, over 3 years. (Even if they played the $2mil year, it would still be $6.5mil cap recapture for each of them for both remaining years.) Either way, they were getting screwed. At least this way they free up cap this year to get Kaprisov signed, keep Dumba (and Sturm), and remove an unhappy Parise from the room. They won’t likely have room for Eichel though.
  6. This Tampa team was the best team of the salary cap era, and I don't think it's even close. You have a Hart/Art Ross forward, arguably the best defenseman in the league, and arguably the best goalie in the league. Then you have multiple 20-goal scorers in the bottom-6, and a 3rd D pairing (Sergachev/Savard) better than any other team's 2nd pairing. It was friggin ridiculous. I think the only reason they weren't more dominant was that they did it twice in only what...10 months? That's crazy! Last year's Conn Smythe winner played hurt the whole playoffs. But he still was fantastic.
  7. Yes, it was excellent.
  8. If anyone surprises, it will be the overseas guys. Anyone who stayed in North America needs to catch up in development.
  9. There were some cap shenanigans going on all year to keep that D-core together. It may not have been as egregious as Tampa/Kucherov, but it was the same idea. Getting mad about it is kind of hypocritical.
  10. It's 30th overall! Everyone left is going to take some time! Good pick.
  11. He was on my radar, but hoping he'd drop to the 40s.
  12. Congrats, @winterhawks! After multiple years of terrible first round luck, you won it all! Too bad you didn’t have Vasilevskiy and Colton tonight, eh @Master Mind?
  13. Carolina Hurricanes have the top 2/3 of our lineup set, and will be using this offseason to fill out some depth spots on the roster. Here is our projected depth chart: Alex Ovechkin - Kevin Hayes - Reilly Smith Anders Lee - Nazem Kadri - Andre Burakovsky _____ - Ross Colton - Josh Archibald _____ - Kevin Rooney - _____ _____, _____ Victor Hedman - Mikhail Sergachev Ben Chiarot - Nate Schmidt _____ - _____ Dan Renouf Andrei Vasilevskiy Jake Allen In the system: F: Radim Zohorna, Tyce Thompson, Simon Ryfors, Brett Murray, Mitchell Chafee, Cole Schwindt, Maxim Letunov D: Jesper Sellgren, Ryan Shea, John Ludvig, Mason Millman, Nikita Okhotyuk, Nicklaus Perbix G: Eetu Makiniemi, Collin Delia, Erik Portillo I expect at least one of Zohorna, Thompson, Ryfors, and Murray to earn a depth forward spot (maybe 2), and the others be call-up options on forward. As for defense, we have a couple call-up options in Shea and Ludvig, but likely no one is ready to earn a regular spot. So we will be looking to add at least 3 forwards and 2 defensemen, but don't have a ton of cap room, so they will have to be reasonable deals. I'm hoping to fill these spots in free agency, but if you have ideas for a potential trade let me know.
  14. That actually sounds like a reasonable deal for both sides. Schmidt proved to be a great guy to build an expansion team around in Vegas, so I can see why they would rather him. The ideal situation would be for Schmidt to happily stay in Vancouver and regain his form from Vegas. But if he wants out, or there is a disconnect with the coaching, then the above scenario would be a great consolation prize.
  15. I actually think he’d fit quite well. Think of something like this: To VAN: Keith + Subban To CHI: Holtby + Roussel + Juolevi The concern for Vancouver is cap this season. The concern for Chicago is cap in 2022-23. This would address both needs. Also saves Vancouver ownership a ton of cash, since Holtby is paid $5.7M in salary this year. As for on the ice, Keith is a decent upgrade on Edler. And really, I think the defence as a whole could use a fresh start. There’s a new associate coach, and having a new “leader” for the D-corps who knows what it takes to win could be a nice touch.
  16. Duh…because Schmidt plays RD, and had for years? Played on the right side with Vegas the entire time there, and did it very well. This thread blows. Canucks have made some pretty big trades. Some worked in our favour (Miller), some didn’t (Gudbranson). So far Schmidt looks more like the latter, but it was a weird year, so I’m not going to judge him solely on that. And he only cost a 3rd round pick, so really, even if he doesn’t improve much it’s not like he cost near what Gudbranson did.
  17. Hate to break it to you, but David Lee Roth was a hack.
  18. I don’t get this take at all. Keith averaged more TOI than any Canucks player, and Chicago finished above Vancouver. He’s far from his peak, but he’d still be at least #3 on the Canucks blueline.
  19. Well, you won a round… So guess it’s time for another rebuild!
  20. Wow! Shows how much people are unsure of this draft, when Wahlstrom is worth more than 4th overall!
