if they are going to have a new captain for next season.. then it's more than likely it's going to be Miller.. i don't think they can afford to give EP the C unless he's signed long term.. imagine EP having the C they can't get him under a contract and don't want to risk him taking the QO and then trade him at the TDL.. that'll be a PR disaster.

Miller as the next captain would be the most toxic thing in the locker room lol sry i can't stand his tantrums and his lazy plays.. I don't think EP would want the captaincy until he decides whether or not he even wants to be here long term.. i figure the only way to keep EP on this team is to overpay him unless we win the lottery and draft bedard or something. we traded away Bo and got raty and a 1st back great. raty is probably 2-3 years away.. the 1st regardless this year or next year is prolly looking at 3-5 years away. we have nothing of value in terms of roster players that we can use to fix the defence anytime soon.. garland boeser and whomever else we want to cap dump ain't getting you a defenceman so i have no idea how they plan on fixing that other than thru the draft.. and defenceman will take like 3-5 years before they even become anything unless you strike gold and in JR's history his drafting is pretty bad.. if they can't get EP inked this summer or next season before the TDL i reckon the management will trade him to a contender that have the cap space the followng years to re-sign him as most team probably would with the expected escrow paid off. i don't see the management willing to take the gamble with EP and let him get to accepting his 1 year QO and drop his value to a rental player.

if they get into the playoff they'll likely be ahead of the 2 wild card teams in the west that makes them minimum 18th.. and unless the team you traded to are conference finalist and up.. u ain't picking 29-32.. while boston and carolina looks great.. they ain't a lock their goaltending is still questionable carolina can't stay healthy ullmark is playing well above expectation. any team can get knocked out in the 1st round in the east. really its' just penguins caps and panthers they have to beat out for the 2 wildcard spot. i dont' expect buffalo is going to be there.. depending what washington do, islanders roster wise with the addition of bo already looks better than washington and florida.

lol that's a bold homer statement to say raty is going to be bo but better defensively.. bo already a perennial 20 goal scorer by the age of 21 and a faceoff machine at 1500+ fo per season... he have a long way to go before he'll be a perennial 20 goal scorer let alone hit 30-40 in a season nor being one of the top faceoff guy in the leagueall new york have to do is sneak into the playoff and that draft pick is no better than any other contenders.

again.. the so call "middle 1st or better" is not guaranteed.. if islander go on a run with a hot goalie it could easily be a 25+ pick.. literally any of the contending team would have the cap to take horvat.. why? coz we literally just took a cap dump of equal value that have another year attached to it.. so literally those teams don't even need to make cap for horvat in this scenario.. coz the canucks took equal cap back pretty much -1mil in which they retained to balance it out. carolina the canucks literally can just retain 50% on horvat and not even have to take a cap dump in return.. toronto prolly dont have much we want but again they can literally take horvat at 50% retained this year without having to cap dump.. obviously if they want to cap dump expiring contract that's fine and we can ask for more. there are so many teams out there that can take on a horvat with retention at the deadline.. heck if vegas want to go on a deep run.. they have 3.9mil in deadline cap and now that stone is out.. interest for horvat would be off the chart if he was still available as a rental.

according to kevin weekes i guess could take with a grain of salt but he said he was "told" by other NHL clubs that were interested in horvat the canucks didn't shop the islander offer around.. i mean he could easily say he have heard from others rather than said he was directly told. like i'm sure they know what other teams have offered but the fact they didn't try to bargain or negotiate with other teams to see if there's better offers or if any team could match or out bid them tells me they are impatient. or is JR scared of lou pulling the deal like they did last year at the draft lol.

so you are predicting the future? none of those scenario are guaranteed. we can easily be drafting in the 17-20 slot this year or 20+ slots next year.. or the islander slots in in the 1-12 slot and then do decent next year and we end up with a even worse pick. u don't think shopping around with the islander offer to see what else is out there and if something comes up or come close to the islanders offer u can't go back to a desperate islander team to renegotiate? literally have all week and all star weekend to negotiate and go back to islanders and see if u can get more out of it. or is the islander all of a sudden going to pull the deal?

lol the fact that they didn't even shop around the islander offers to give any other team a chance to do better is a big fail already.. u think the islander offer was sooooooooooo good that no team can even come close to matching it?

Nelson Bailey and Lee is not really part of their “core” anymore.. it’s barzal wahlstrom Horvat if they can figure out how to re sign him. Dobson pulock sorokin. If they can add a winger or 2 in the free agency they’ll be decent. The protected pick is a joke.. the absolute worse case scenario is islander wins the lottery to move up 10 spots draft a great prospect.. then go on to have a great season next year and we end up with a mid late 20s pick. It would be a very fitting Canucks scenario.

expectation is already way too high and going to be tough for the kid to live up to.. he's a "great" player what's your definition of great? raty is a very good prospect and have a good chance to succeed in the nhl.. but really his ceiling is a 3c maybe borderline 2c. again it's nothing against raty.. i just think this trade is very underwhelming.. if the pick is maybe something like top 3 protected ie winning the lottery then i'd be more OK with especially for taking a cap dump

ok he's ranked 56?? even the uninspired pick from last year is ranked higher than him at 23. again i'm not bashing the player.. but the return is uninspiring.. raty ceiling is pegged at a 3c maybe borderline 2c if he works out.. and the word is IF. and we all seen how most of our prospect stalls once in the canucks farm system... every couple years we talk about deepest draft since so and so.. the draft is deep.. but the talent still drops off after 10-12 this year.. after that it's still a gamble. JR draft history doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Raty is currently ranked what? 93rd in prospect ranking for players under 23? Ya we got a top prospect.. the top prospect of a team that haven’t had a 1st rounder in 5 years.. Raty looked ok.. prolly ends up to be a decent 3c eventually.. and no guarantee the management don’t pick a bust with the 1st rounder in the mid -20 range.. so really we got a potential 3c and a magic bean and a cap dump lol not sure how anyone thinks we won the trade. I’m not even sure if Raty even slots in as our top prospect right now and that’s pretty sad for the biggest trade chip of the TDL

They literally said they offered him what they think was their best offer based on what he has done in the past and pretty much said don’t care about what he was doing the 2nd half of last season and what he’s been doing this season. They negotiated in bad faith and had no intention of signing bo unless he came dirt cheap. So are they going to go negotiate with EP and tell him here’s our best offer based on last season we don’t care what you did this season?. I’m glad bo moved on.. this management is a clown show that doesn’t know how to respect people. They say they want to retool and wants 24-26 years old that can help you win?? AB is not a player that can help you compete.. Raty is prolly not going to make an actual impact on the roster for another 3-4 years if he works out.. and the 1st rounder this or next year.. what’s the time line 4-5 years from now? The trade would have been 100% better if they retained 50% on bo and don’t take AB.. and if they have to take AB there should be no protection on the pick. Unless we win the lottery which is unlikely. This team will be just as bad if not worse next year. How do you sell EP this team have a future any time soon? Lol and a cap dump. Beauvillier is a cap dump however way u want to look at it. It’s not being unrealistic.. it’s the crap spewed out by the current management not looking to rebuild etc etc etc wanting 3 players and not draft pick etc etc everything about this prolly won’t make an impact for anyother 4-5 years. It’s pretty weak return when u have to take on Beauvillier as a cap dump at 4+ mil for his projected 30 points.. that 1st should have at least been unprotected..

I should be saying praise the lord thank god we traded Horvat so early for a fairly weak return counter to what JR said he wanted and looking for right? Who cares last time we had 2 1st we busted on both. Looking at who they drafted last year. I have no faith in them drafting in the 1st unless it’s some consensus guy that falls into their lap
