  1. Try as I might, can't cheer for them to lose. Not after Petey blocks 6 shots with his slim frame, not after Quinn logs 30 minutes and sets up the winner in OT. Not after seeing Kuz's reaction to scoring the winning goal in OT. Man, can't believe what we have in Kuz. With 22 games left, the way he's going he may score 40 goals and 80 points in his first season. Let that sink in for you. Win or Lose, you can't say they are a boring team to watch.
  2. Tampa overpaid for Jeannot to be sure but trying to equate point totals with assets given up isn't always relevant. Tampa clearly targeted this guy for reasons other than pure scoring stats.
  3. Well luck in the draft lotteries helped. Almost seemed fixed to me: NJ 2017 Gained from 5th to 1st 2018 no lottery (17th) 2019 Gained from 3rd to 1st 2020 dropped from 6th to 7th 2021 Stayed 4th 2022 Gained from 5th to 2nd Vcr 2017 dropped from 2nd to 5th 2018 dropped from 6th to 7th 2019 dropped from 9th to 10th 2020 No pick (JT Trade) 2021 No pick (OEL Trade) 2022 Stayed 15th Makes you wonder
  4. sigh.. I remember as a teenager attending this game from the standing room only section of the old coliseum.
  5. I'm not saying that it doesn't. Everyone knows, the higher you draft the greater the chance of getting better players. That's a no brainer. I was responding to the OP's veiled attempts at criticizing the canucks for not tanking hard enough in part because Petey was trying to Pad his stats for a big future pay day. This did not sit well with me. In order for the Canucks to really tank that badly, they would have to further gut the team (I know some would like that) but be careful what you wish for. Doing so does not guarantee a top 3 pick unless you are the very worst. And generational players like Crosby and Mcdavid don't come around that often. There is only so much you can do to get one of those players.
  6. I'm actually enjoying watching the games now as opposed to early in the season. No pressure of trying to get into a wildcard position and being really disappointed if they lose. While its not good for the Tank, Its actually nice that they win, especially when they put up the effort they have been putting in the last little while. If they lose, well I'm not too upset either because it helps with the Tank. This team is entertaining to watch and seeing Petey and Quinn grow into elite players right before our eyes makes it even better.
  7. You keep trying to make this inference that you need a top 3 draft pick to win the cup but then have to qualify it numerous exceptions? not a very strong inference. No one here disputes the fact that to build a cup winning team, you need to draft well and develop those you draft properly. Not having a top 3 pick does not mean you can't win the cup and having a top 3 doesn't guarantee that you win a cup. To win a cup you need a lot of things to go right. and BTW, Makar was not a top 3 pick either. Heiskanen possibly better than Pettersson? really? Petey makes everyone he plays with better. He is a play driver, a sniper, and rounding out to be a good defensive forward. Not saying that Heiskanen isn't a great player but not very many will take him over Petey. With Makar its a tossup. Depends on your needs. We are slightly biased here since we see Petey all the time but really both of them will go 1 and 2 almost all the time.
  8. Man you really are a shiny ray of sunshine aren't you? Petey is not just playing for his next paycheque, that's how he is built. He plays a complete game, works harder than anyone I know to get better day in and day out and save for his injuries a year ago, he has been our best player for the last few years. For you to diss him like that, tsk tsk. You know who was playing for his next paycheque don't you? and the top 3 pick analysis doesn't make sense because every draft is different. Finishing as the worst team in the league does not guarantee you the first pick as more often than not, the lottery system will drop you down. Even winning a 1-3 pick does not guarantee you get the best player either. FYI in 2017 we finished second from last, 3 teams won the lottery and dropped us down to 5th where we picked Petey who is no doubt the best player out of that draft. Same goes for 2018, we finished 5th worst and instead of winning the lottery, dropped 2 places to 7th where we picked Quinn who was one of the best picks in that draft.
  9. Majority here aren't bashing Bo the person. In fact many here are fans of Bo but many don't think he was worth the contract that NYI gave him especially after giving up the assets that they did. Seems a few of you have this knee jerk reaction anytime we comment on his value on this board. Bo did well for himself and his family and I am happy for him and wish him well. I would never expect any player no matter how many years they've been with the team to give a home town discount. Its a business after all. No player should be criticized for that.
  10. The only talents that Petey has are his off the charts hockey IQ and his incessant drive to practice and get better. He wasn't gifted with a big body, hard shot, great passing or great skating. Everything he has he had to work hard for. He is the polar opposite of Jake Virtanen. I hate to compare him to Gretzky because Wayne was and always be the greatest hockey player in the world but alot of what I see from Petey is similar.
  11. Lets say we pick 5th or 6th and Will Smith is available. If Detroit's pick lands outside the top 10, would you swap picks plus Seider from Detroit? Would Detroit do it?
  12. I think the thing that you don't understand is that the "market" is different for differing circumstances. As a UFA in the summer, Bo could very well have gotten the 8.5 million (with one less year in term). Provided he doesn't get a catastrophic injury or something. But that is not the situation here is it? The situation here is that the NYI gave up good assets to get Bo early so that they don't have to bid for him in the summer. Teams trade for rights to pending UFA's to get a leg up on other teams. Lou was using comparables like Landeskog as an example and thought 7 to 7.5 million would have been what he would have to pay. Miller was in a different situation as he did not get traded, had a year left on his contract. Had he gone to free agency as a PPG player that is a play driver, I would have no doubt that he would have gotten 9 to 10 million. Then why didn't Miller just wait it out? Well, there are risks. Like risks of having a really bad year, or getting injured before free agency. I was actually quite impressed that management managed to keep contract numbers under wraps because had Lou knew what it would cost him, we would not have received the assets that we got. Lou definitely overpaid given the situation he was in. And his comments said as much. Look, I'm not here to drag Bo's name in Mud. Next to Petey, Bo was my favorite active Canuck. I have his Jersey and it will now hang alongside with Nazzy's, Bure's, and The Sedin's Jerseys.
  13. The prices for houses is more indicative of market prices because there are more than one house sold to establish those prices. You do not take one example and say that is what the market is or is willing to pay.
  14. Because one party paid that much, it constitutes what the market is? Have you ever heard of people overpaying for things like houses? I only brought up Meier because there were other players that Lou could have looked at. I am in no way comparing Meier with Bo. They are two different players altogether. I'm not even saying that Meier is worth 10 million. its just that it would cost any team that much just to retain his RFA rights or he walks after one year. Meier's contract much like Boeser's was back loaded
  15. Your question was why they traded for him in the first place. And I answered it. Had nothing to do with what Horvat got on his contract nor his market value with the rest of the league. You can't say because Lou paid him 8.5 that its what he is worth.
  16. The NYI are a bubble team. There window is closing fast. Lou is trying to save his Job. Bo was one of the best players on the market. Timo Meier was also a possibly but a QO of 10 million probably scared them off. They need to make the playoffs and are within amongst other teams fighting for that wild card position.
  17. He agreed to this contract because he had a gun to his head. Don't you get it? He gave up far too many assets for Bo to be considered a rental.
  18. Actually, I remember seeing Petey in our last game come to the aid of one of his team mates when he was cheapshotted. Nothing materialized but Petey did push back.
