  1. I'm concerned that some health issues that Domi struggles with, could see a faster than normal fall off on his performance and shorten his career. I like him overall, but there are some things that may prevent him from ever realizing his full potential.
  2. Won't be surprised if we sign this guy this Summer as well and get h to Utica...or wherever the farm team is playing next season.
  3. I don't specifically disagree with you. I'm sticking with my prediction that Seattle will take Holtby.
  4. You're not all that good at history. JB couldn't resign Toffoli because he traded for him a couple of weeks before everything went into shutdown due to Covid. A month before that, they had just been told in the GM's meeting that the NHL would be increasing the cap for the next season by as much as 4.5 million. So, you're a manager, how do you plan for things that haven't happened yet. Being a manager in the NHL isn't as simple as you seem to think it is. Watch and see this summer. As usual, everything will work out. Eriksson will be bought out as buying him out saves about 2 million in cap space and also saves 1 million in real money. Seattle will pick some prospects, but they are looking to put together a team that will compete. They will take a lot of experienced players, just as Las Vegas did. Holtby is on a 1 year contract after this season, brings a lot of experience, has won the cup and the Vezina trophy. Pretty sure that you don't track future salaries the way the Canucks do and what each year will be needed. Will the Canucks be hard up against the Cap again? Absolutely, but that's what teams do. Canucks will generally always be a team hard up against the cap. They show players wanting to come here, that they will always spend and put the best team they can on the ice. So, it's possible that Seattle takes Lind, but far more likely that they will go for the most proven player that we have available, that's Holtby. As for the whole stupid trying to raise funds to fly a plane around Vancouver with FireBenning....most fans still believe that Benning is a good but not perfect manager, but the right guy for this team right now. Doesn't matter what fun filled stunt someone wants to waste their money on, I will happily place money that Benning will be here next year. In closing, GO TROLL ANOTHER TEAM
  5. We have no idea how Lind and Gadjovich will adapt to actual NHL play, and as they are going through that adjustment, you want guys like Pearson, teaching them how to play a 200 foot game in the NHL. What a lot of people forget is, there will be injuries, there will be opportunities for the younger players to start adapting to the NHL. As they show that they are ready to handle the NHL full time, we will make room for them. It's how successful teams build.
  6. It definitely does. The more clicks, the more they make.
  7. Your math is flawed. Considering there is a good chance that Beagle will also miss next season as well as Ferland, they currently have about 23.375 million, BEFORE they lose someone (likely to be Holtby + 4.3 million in additional space) and that's before they make any other changes. I get to that number by the fact that Ferland is likely done for his career. Beagle, its being reported that he will not likely be able to play next season. Eriksson will be leaving this summer, even if it means getting bought out, that will free up another .875 as the number you are look at in your above screenshot, already account for him being on Taxi squad for next season. Pettersson and Hughes combined for next season will be somewhere between 14 - 15 million. Hughes isn't eligible to receive offer sheet and Pettersson has already said that he wouldn't sign one and no one really issues them anymore. Podkolzin is 925k. Lind will be a two way contract, probably around 750k. Why does he take less than he's making now? Because on a 2 way contract, he will likely negotiate a much better AHL rate than he's getting now, probably around the 200 - 225k and at 750k, he will know that he's more likely to fit into the cap on the main team when there's opportunity for him to get games on injury relief. Joulevi will likely negotiate for around 750 - 800k, pushing for it to be a one way contract and will likely get that. They want him on the main team now. Sign Tryamkin, 2.5 million, you still have 5.85 million left, and that's before the expansion draft and other trades. Again, we have lots of room. Everyone second guesses JB, but I'm pretty sure that you don't keep a spreadsheet, tracking expected salary expenditures for the next 5 years and what we can afford to pay. The key message in this is: #1. I can do math pretty well #2. JB is better at managing cap than anyone else on this board, including me, and definitely better than the media who question what he's doing to generate the clicks that they get paid to generate! #3. Those numbers already include Demko's 5 million per year contract.
  8. This is interesting, at the start of the season, we were an exhausted team a lot of that first 6 weeks and highly disorganized. A lot of the other teams were relatively rested due to their easier, starting schedules. Suddenly, we're a rested team while our opponents are exhausted. If we can manage our energy by rotating enough fresh players in from taxi squad etc, we could theoretically still make the playoffs. We're not going to catch Toronto, but we really could catch Montreal with how they are playing. Its going to be an interesting finish.
  9. As I said a few pages back... THAT is why Pearson got a new contract. He plays a fairly simple game, but is much more effective than most people give him credit for.
  10. This just in.... Under the new Provincial Travel restrictions, players will no longer be ALLOWED to cross the Center Ice line and will only be allowed to play in their own end of the ice. We hope that this doesn't too greatly impact your experience of enjoying hockey!
  11. I believe that he will be back. I don't care if he scores. I just care that he frightens opposition players in the corner and in front of the net and keeps them looking over their shoulders
  12. I agree, really hoping that we can bring him back for a couple more years.
  13. So, on the surface, I don't have an issue with this being 2 games. But, if this is 2 games, McDavid's had shot should have been as well.
  14. The Canucks are NOT in salary cap trouble for next season and there's nothing wrong with Pearsons contract. Stop listening to the click bait reporters!!!
  15. Completely irrelevant post, he didn’t complain about contract, he complained about how he was deployed on the ice. We have more than enough cap space to sign him.
  16. He’s a different D from OJ. OJ wasn’t drafted for point production, he was drafted as a closer who would settle the game down for us, when needed. Rathbone was drafted for his creativity and vision. So, not really fiar to compare them yet, till we see how they both handle the NHL level of play. Personally, I’ve been impressed by what OJ has shown so far, he’s been steady, although somewhat sheltered, which is normal for first season. I want to see how Rathbone compares to Hughes for overall game. With our tight schedule over the next month, I expect all our Taxi squad guys will get regular rotation to help inject energy into what will be a very tired lineup within 2 weeks.
  17. I really don’t know, such a weird year, so many kids have barely played.
  18. So, again, articles by people who have zero knowledge of what actually happens in running and managing a team in the NHL, and wouldn't get hired as anything more than team janitor. Fans need to stop listening to click bait and assuming it's Gospel. JB is not perfect, but neither is any of the other GM's in the NHL. They all have strengths and weaknesses and there will never be anyone who doesn't make the occasional mistake and its not realistic, as fans, to expect that. The guys writing these articles, would get laughed out of an interview with any ownership group in the NHL
  19. Feeling good about our odds for the first overall this year, guys! Maybe Covid will do us a solid, even when the league won't....
  20. Let's see if we can make Sunday's game a little more fair. Someone see if they can slip some undercooked chicken into Toronto's pregame meal.....
  21. I think someone's fishing for retweets by blowing this out of proportion. All the players knew what the risks were of playing. They were all given the opportunity to opt out with nothing held against them.
  22. Holtby and Virtanen offer solid value to a building team, although I think Holtby has the most value right now. See what happens, I think its fair value. Virtanen brings speed, Holtby brings experience.
