Was it even clear why Maurice stepped down as head coach of the Jets?
Essentially, he lost some of his passion in the bubble/covid year and felt the Jets needed a new voice.
Link to his presser: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/video/paul-maurice-explains-stunning-decision-step-jets-head-coach/
I know he liked Vancouver before he took the job with Winnipeg, but I wonder if he needs some time away to regain some of that passion before returning as a coach.

But what has Maurice done? Look at the talent he had. He was given every possible tool to succeed and managed a 3rd round exit. A SCF berth with the Canes in the early 2000s.
He is as good as anyone else on that list. I don't get the appeal myself
He also left the Jets because he just didn't feel as passionate anymore, so I don't know if he can quickly turnaround and coach another team.

Thank God Lehner is awful, especially with rebounds.

Hes excellent offensively but hes not a true #1. If we want to contend we need a Hedman, Petro, Ekblad, Josi, Makar type #1.
Absolutely agree with this, unfortunately those type of d-men are the hardest things to get in the league

I'm excited for the off-season, but not next season. This off-season is where we start to tinker around with the core, and the next one will be either more tinkering with the core, building depth, or blowing it up.

Yeah Canada needs to focus on sports the entire world actually gives a $&!# about. Let's put that money into soccer and basketball.
Hockey will always be there...
To be fair, hockey is only behind Soccer and Cricket for worldwide audience.
I think soccer would be an amazing thing for Canada to focus on developing, so maybe their appearance will inspire future youngsters to put on cleats.

Monahan just not a fit under Sutter's system.
Get him somewhere else and he'd be fine.
I disagree; he has been falling off for quite awhile, and definitely before Sutter got there.
I actually thought he could have been part of an Eichel trade, but I don't think he'd fetch much in a trade now...maybe Arizona would take a flyer on him.

I miss early season Garland.

I have a hard time thinking there would be in this case as I feel this would be a harder sell than the situation with the longer cap terms. That being said, such a penalty could be quantified perhaps through how much over the cap they are during the playoffs. Perhaps a percentage of that value could be the penalty.
I do think in the next negotiaions there is a simple solution to the actual problem: make the cap count in the playoffs. Can't exploit a loophole if it's not there.
I agree! Even if they give a bit more wiggle room (can go 5% over the cap in the playoffs) it should prevent mass circumvention.

I don't disagree with you on hoping it doesn't, but unfortunately teams are going to do this until they get told they can't. When you have Tampa Bay literally winning a cup from it, that's a pretty big influencer there. It sets a standard whether we like that standard or not.
And will there be retroactive penalties given to these teams like Vancouver and New Jersey received for finding loopholes?

We still need another top shut down defenceman.
We don't even have one.
I think we also need a defensively responsible defenseman with a big shot (Salo).

Just to add to the excitement (and I posted this is the European Football thread) Italy has lost to North Macedonia and will not be going to the World Cup.
Aside from my happiness about seeing the Azzurri miss, this means Canada has better potential for a higher seeding and a better chance at pot C.....
Now imagine if Portugal loses to NM too!
Italy keeps missing the world cup lol.

Boeser at 5M is okay, but I still think I'd rather move on and use the cap elsewhere while picking up assets.

He would have indicated he plans on testing free agency in order for this deal to happen, OR the team has plans on building the team without him.
Either way, free asset, no complaints.Similarly to Copp in Winnipeg, Motte's play might have priced himself out of Vancouver

Soo... Rags wont be re-signing him, he'll be a free agent, we can try to re-sign him if we want him + we got a free 4th round pick.
Why are people so mad exactly? The odds of that happening are so slim.
Plus it's cheaper to re-sign him than sign him as a free agent.

The Matt Ryan for a 3rd deal killed his value.

Yeah I don't like this trade.
Demott is like a less offensive Pouliot

I'm thinking a 4th rounder
Maybe making room for Dermott.

Is Julio Jones considered washed? Or does he have something left in the tank?
I would not mind a 1 year type deal. @c00kiesfor the Eagles.
Eagles have been too quiet in free agency. Howie Roseman gets a 3 year contract extension and so far he hasn't made a truly significant trade or signing.
NFL draft right around the corner.
NFL off-season is insane this year...
I heard Buccs might get him, but I think he'd be like a Torey Smith tbh.
That said, it's still an improvement and a one year deal wouldn't be bad.

Halak appeared to be upset when told he was going to start the 3rd period (assumed he was gonna play tomorrow, but not likely anymore).

Boeser can go for something, Garland is a solid player, but if you can get a huge haul then maybe...
