  1. further to this At the 43 game mark McDavid had 71 points, the difference is a wash. Now imagine what a 24 year old and healthy Lemieux in the context of that year I say it again, I do not disagree that Conner is not a great player and one of the best of the last 20 years but it is a bit early to put him up with the best ever. Potential is there for sure but he still has to go do it
  2. Mario came out of retirement because Pittsburg was terrible and barely AHL worthy the cap comment holds no water for me in the context of that year As for the goalie comment I disagree. Belfour, Hasek, Roy, Broduer and Cujo were all around that year and are up there at the tops all time, even a young Luongo was playing lights out in Florida that year You can argue that the supersized goalies of today are harder to score against but most don’t hold a candle to these guys. These guys actually had to make saves.
  3. For sure I remember Crosby having a similar season 65+ points in 40ish games around a similar age before an injury and thinking the same, finally someone a step above those multiple 120+ point seasons never came though. The potential is there but let’s not put the cart before the horse
  4. You guys do realize that Lemieux scored 76 points in 43 games in the middle of the dead puck era after not playing for 3 years and at the age of 36 don’t you? Not far off of McDavid’s current pace That’s a contemporary comparison to today’s NHL McDavid is great but he has a lot still to prove the be put up there with Orr, Wayne and Mario
  5. It was going the way of “Major League” there for a while but I guess undressing Bettman bit by bit after every win back fired after they got halfway there.
  6. At this point playing .500 has a good chance pushing us outside a top 10 pick where the lottery odds are negligible and the players available will be roughly the same so just go for it Losing 15 straight to finish the year will break the team in my mind no matter the available excuses. Top 5 pick is not likely regardless
  7. Given that he’s dealing with about 16 M in dead cap on the team he’s doing OK
  8. So if you’re not driving these days what’s stopping you from drinking while you golf?
  9. Yes, there is a bottle neck on the left side for LHD, could see Schmidt replacing Edler on the left next year with and a cheaper Edler (Physical Defensive Dman) replacement found for the right hand side. At this point I give money to Hamonic before Edler. As for Rathbone, he needs to be displayed and shopped as I do not see him in the long term plans. He’s either an NHLer or he isn’t and he’ll get more attention the more he shows at this level.
  10. Iron Mike is that you? Joking aside: 1st game of the season I totally agree with the earn your spot sentiment. But in the context of a covid ravaged roster, once the door closes on the season, seeing what players can do in roles their skill set are most suited to is valuable from an asset management point of view. Hughes goes down Rathbone is a potential replacement to his offensive minutes and understanding what he can do in that role is valuable. Personally I am not a fan of the idea of Rathbone and Hughes on the roster long term but then again I felt Jovocop was smallish after Pat Quinn’s defence cores of the early-mid 90s. Personally I’d be looking to increase his stock as much as I can for a trade.
  11. In the context of Covid he looks haggard, and giving Rathbone top PP minutes with skilled players is better than 10 minutes of protected EV minutes from Edler. Just my opinion
  12. Meaningful games in this context is more than an odd one here or there Example rest Hughes and play Rathbone in his minutes for 5+ games, that’s meaningful Playing Rathbone in Edler’s spot 10 minutes a game is not
  13. Never said Tank and do not support it ever, just said we treaded water. We play in the Pacific this year we were in With this division 3-6 was realistic expectations and I was ok with that. At one point you need to pull the plug and give the kids meaningful games. Win-Win because you see what they have and if you lose games as a result no worries and if you win games even better experience for the kids
  14. Happy to be wrong on that account and have been rebutting Provost since he changed the title
  15. Go back through this thread, I have always supported not tanking
  16. Need a poll on who understands going from unlikely to out of reach as: a) unlikely to impossible b) unlikely to more unlikely Context is everything, you are arguing a definition of out of reach that essentially means the same thing as unlikely so why change it in the first place As for the odds I totally agree with your sentiment that pulling the plug was probably a wiser move but in the end injuries and Covid killed that going into the trade deadline Can see why JB was hesitant given our upward trajectory vs the downward trend of CGY and MTL I have preferred a down year with a top 10 pick since the start because we barely treaded water last summer’s changes and we are 2 solid D in the 23-26 year range from being anything more than a pretender with this core
  17. Just needs his forwards to stop bobbling the puck. Had at least three great feeds last game that should’ve lead to odd man rushes including that break away feed that Vesey missed Gut needs real games with real minutes and he will start thriving He is great on the offensive blue line keeping the play alive, very deceptive poke check, and no hesitation at standing up in the neutral zone and his own blue line to break up the rush or force offsides
  18. Personally prefer Miller and the 2 JVs. Heavy line that can score multiple ways
  19. You need your own thread pinned in “Current Canucks” titled “Lower Deck” to keep track of gold like this
  20. Every moment of time leads to infinite possible futures, in those infinite futures there are an infinite number that have Vancouver winning the Cup
  21. I’ve lived in MTL for almost 20 years so am closer to it. I had VAN and MTL finishing anywhere 3-6 with a slight edge to VAN after we signed Hamonic.
  22. After what last night did to TO’s mental state we could finish ahead of them with those numbers
  23. I feel MTL over achieved as much as we’ve under achieved. Things are starting to balance out. 3-7-0 their last ten with us getting closer and closer every day. Coaching change earlier in the year points to something not being right in their world and now Price gone a week plus. Doubt will be setting in at one point.
  24. So after those dismal attempts at the empty net and seeming loss of PKer Roussel do we see Loui Eriksson slide in?
