  1. LOL what I've heard over the last little bit: We don't want McDavid because he was holding another woman's hand, We don't want either of the Kanes because one beat a cab driver and the other is a gambler. We don't want Russians because they must be pro Putin. We don't want anything other than cookie cutter nice guy players. Sounds to me like we don't want Cups! . Stastny has quietly put together a really good career. 800 points, may end up with around 900 when he's done.
  2. Aren't there people on this board who are hoping to sign perennial 50 point scorer Bo Horvat for about 7 million dollars? Stick a "C" on the guy and it's okay to overpay him, but not Nazem Kadri? I think it's a fair deal for Kadri. Maybe one year too long but the dollar amount is solid.
  3. We're not getting a franchise potential Norris caliber young defenceman who has 5 more years of team control for JT miller.
  4. I think Huberdeau is more valuable than Tkachuk on his own, if the Flames can resign him, big win for them. Huberdeau is severely underrated in the hockey world
  5. I don't think players should be shamed for wanting to play in a particular place. They're at the top of their field and shouldn't have the option to choose the city they want to raise a family and live in? They should just automatically be loyal for life to one organization? I think that's a pretty simplistic mindset
  6. Boo hoo, let's panic sell JT miller low for a first round pick that has a 95% chance of being worse than JT miller, maybe some prospects that develop into the same level of player as Tyler myers and a few second round picks that have a high chance of never making the show
  7. Or we can not assume the worst, and just believe that he really did decide not to resign with the Flames at the last minute. It was a big decision and I'm sure it weighed heavily on him. Millions of dollars on the line, also, it was irresponsible of the Flames for not having a backup plan on case he didn't resign. The player doesn't owe the GMs (bosses) anything.
  8. So sticking with the Flames (contenders) where he is comfortable, played his whole career, the organization built around him and was first in the division is "harder" than going to the CBJ to try to win a Cup? I'm not sure I understand your point.
  9. Guy made his decision and did the opposite of what superstars normally do (he didn't bail out and go to a high profile/big market team), this us actually a win for parity, small markets and I honestly respect Johnny for not taking the easier road.
  10. He's saying he didn't see barzal involved in the negotiations/discussion on what the nixed deal was. He's NOT saying Barzal was offered up
  11. Imagine trading all your players as they hit their primes so you don't have to pay them fair value because MAYBE for 25% of their contract length they may not play to their cap hit. Then you subsequently overpay stop gap players so that you can tank to either A) get screwed over by the draft lottery, or get some high profile players, and then also complain when they ask for fair value as they hit their primes, because MAYBE for 25% of their contract length they MAY not play to their value. Cycle of mediocrity. Tankers need to get the idea out of their heads that we're going to tank for Local boy Bedard this year. The perpetual tankers of the league (Buffalo, Edmonton, Arizona) haven't moved the needle in years
  12. Imagine never being able to make it to cup contention status because you're continuously ridding the team of your best players.
  13. Resign Miller, trade Horvat for picks and go sign your RHD with his money
  14. Boeser hasn't improved since his rookie year, last year was also Boesers worst season. Bo plays on PP1 too. JTM didn't play with EP40 much if at all this year, which makes his production that much more impressive. I'm honestly not shocked that other GMs aren't giving us the return that we want for JTM, because we clearly undervalue him on these boards as well.
  15. What are you doing with the extra 2 million dollars you gain from picking Bo over Miller? Everyone wants to win a Cup, but no one wants to PAY the best players. No wonder we're perennial losers. High draft picks right? High drafted players do end up getting paid big money. We just end up overpaying for middling players who lead us nowhere. Horvat doesn't move the needle for us upwards as much as JTM through the duration of his career
  16. Bo doesn't play with first line players because he doesn't have the skills to back it up. He's more of a bruiser, one man show type of guy like Kesler, rather than a playmaking centreman. Bo also has played with boeser before and hasn't produced like Miller. I think it's asinine to make the assumption that Horvat would produce like JTM when he's had similar sort of opportunities. For example Miller has the spot on the PP that he does because of his skill from that spot. If you put horvat there I doubt he'd produce at a similar clip. As for the captain comment, I meant I feel we may overpay Horvat/overrate him due to him being our captain/homegrown player despite him being clearly inferior to the Miller of today. Just to be clear, I'm all for signing Bo, but at the right price. If it comes down to overpaying one and getting rid of the other, I 100 times out of 10 would rather have JTM. Teams don't get anywhere by making emotional decisions. If Horvat gets anything over 6 million, in my opinion, that's an overpay. EDIT: Miller was a .96 PPG with the canucks his first two years, and Horvat .74ish during that time. Miller also didn't play with first line caliber teammates either with his linemate being.....Boeser this year?
  17. Exactly, like I said though, Bo will probably get the "being the captain bonus"
  18. We're not going anywhere in the playoffs with Bo as a second line centre bottom line. If it comes down to buying a players prime years, I'd prefer to have JT in his prime (a player who's shown he can CARRY a line AND produce at a first line clip) and bite the back years. Unfortunately Bo is the captain so I feel that allows him to tack on an extra million or two onto his negotiations, but I don't see Bo as being a 7 million dollar player. Bo's peak is right now, and he's capped at a 55-60 point player currently. This is what JTMs floor is. I'm not comfortable potentially saving two years of decline and 1-2 million of cap a year to lose a first line Swiss arm knife PPG center who carried this team on his back at a level we haven't seen in awhile
  19. Same. I'd much rather have JT for 8 mill and 8 years, rather than Bo for 6-7mill and 8 years. We're definitely focused on trading the wrong guy. Probably because JT is an unruly American, and Captain Bo is a good ol respectful Canadian boy
  20. Called it! Got the round wrong though
  21. I'd much rather get more picks next year, this year is generally considered to be weaker
  22. I saw him compared to David Pastrnak somewhere (who was drafted 24th or 25th himself). Fingers crossed.
