  1. Not only is it an attempt to shortcut, I liken it to paying off debt with a credit card in an attempt to push the real problems down the road. The issues don't go away, but making this trade just extends the pain over a longer period. I don't have any issues with the player Hronek, just the process. How does this team add the pieces around our core of Petey and Huggy when they have zero cap flexibility now and after next year when Hronek is due a good size salary bump, where is that money coming from? It just seems like committing to more money in the next couple years like this simply lowers the amount of money that will be available later to try and have the flexibility to manage the roster and truly add pieces to our core that will make a difference while we have them. Trading high draft picks and committing to salary just forces the team to tinker around the fringes of the roster for the next few years, with no real help for the core. IMO. I'm not hopeful that this management team is smarter than 31 other teams in this league given it's bottom feeder status and that we'll be having all these same discussions again in another year or two. Again, simply pushing the problem down the road and extending this misery. It's not easy being a lifetime fan of this team.
  2. Was so excited for the new direction. And once again this team pulls the rug from under my feet. Yzerman and red wings in a fight for the playoffs but still have an eye on important draft capital. All for what? To try to get a couple of playoff gates? Once again sacrificing the future for the now. I’m beyond speechless with this deal. Sell the team aquaman. It’s clear you can only hire people who will carry out your greedy short term strategy every year and I’m sick of it.
  3. Canuck fans for I don’t know how long thought that trading Raymond, Ballard and a 3rd should land us any teams 1st round pick and their top prospect in a trade. So of course the Russians will be our new second line.
  4. Very cool that Gino named one of his sons Bure. RIP Gino.
  5. I don't know how to feel about this deal. My initial reaction is that this seems quite underwhelming for the type of asset we're moving. Would've been OK if we'd sent JT for this package. Also find it hard to believe that we couldn't get a better young prospect.
  6. Unfortunately I think it’s the latter. This franchise will likely continue to spin its wheels in the mushy middle. Not good at winning or losing.
  7. Don’t blame you really. But I think you’re blaming the wrong person here. Multiple management teams he’s hired as owner have always preached the same message and delivered over a decade of poor asset management that have gutted this team of draft picks and prospects and made them a laughing stock of the league. Now he’s made them an embarrassment as well. Thankfully Canuck fans have risen above the low moral standards of this ownership by giving Aquilini the big middle finger in giving Bruce the send off and respect he deserves. This is all on Aquilini and will never change until he’s out as owner.
  8. It sure feels like the next 10 years will be a lot like the last 10 years. What case study are they looking at that shows taking shortcuts works. Sigh. Not sure I have the stomach for more of the same.
  9. Yup no doubt. But par for the course with this team. Added to existing current legal issues against current management around this team with handling of Pearson injury, a human rights complaint and abuse allegations against the owner not to mention the actual on ice embarrassment the team has become. So no big deal adding a gambling and match fixing coach to the to the mix. Seriously though, it would be just another big black eye for this team imo.
  10. That Aquilini is going there speaks volumes about why this organization is so dysfunctional and a laughing stock around the league. I had high hopes for this new management team and that JR had the cred to tell aquaman to eff off. It’s now obvious to me that hasn’t happened and this management team will face the same challenges that every other team president, GM and coach this team has had working under this sleazy owner. I couldn’t care less about wins tbh. All I’ve wanted for a few years now is a long term vision and plan around a good rebuild and not constantly taking shortcuts for the occasional playoff gate, yet here we still are in a worse position than ever. Now I feel we’ll be here talking about the same issues 10 years from now. Sigh.
  11. If Aquilini actually told Rutherford that he “needs to fix this now” and won’t allow him to start the demolition I feel is needed before the rebuild, then this team will be a bottom feeder for years to come. Doesn’t matter who manages or coaches, decisions will always be made with job preservation in mind and not what’s best long term. As long as Aquilini owns this team, we’ll continue to be a laughing stock.
  12. I don't even care about wins and losses. For me it's more about the overwhelming hopelessness that in this flat cap era, it could take this team 5 years just to get out of all the bad contracts before we can even have the flexibility to start to rebuild the organizational depth of prospects and picks.

But I thought Jim Benning was a 'horse whisperer' in amateur drafting!  All those Calder finalists must mean we've got a farm system full of close to ready NHL prospects!

  13. Juice’s speech to the team: https://twitter.com/Canucks/status/1588294018990886912?s=20&t=tT0Rze_RrCRDjrQlUUblJQ
  14. The Blues were cup contenders at start of that season, started poorly, got their coach fired and went on a run. No comparison to this version of the Canucks.
  15. Still too early to know since they haven’t even been in place for a year yet. But I’m not liking what I’m seeing, or not seeing, so far.
  16. Yes if done as a proper rebuild and not half arsed. It’s going to be a painful 5 years regardless so might as well start the job now. We’ll be further ahead at that point if done right.
  17. I’m saddened that “new” management has decided take the same short sighted route to success that the previous management did. Another 5 years will be flushed and we’ll be in the exact same spot. Sigh.
