Pretty scary how bad we've been, usually if a team is this bad for this long they blow it up and trade their prime players for picks and basically rebuild again. We haven't been close to being a contender for years and have barely been in the playoffs the last decade which is a joke.

At least in seasons past we've played well, beaten good teams and played decent hockey whereas so far this season I haven't really seen much of that, or any decent signs that we can turn it around and even win say 5 in a row. Even if Petey gets on a hot streak, that's not going to win us games.

Pettersson getting going is all this team needs. He's in his early 20s, so is Hughes and I think both players are ahead of where the Sedins were at that age. Keep in mind, Daniel and Henrik Sedin were second liners until about 2006, whereas Petey is already a first liner. He just needs to get going, get used to earning the big bucks and all that goes along with it.

Then there's Boeser. How good is Boeser really? I mean on the right side we've got Podkolzin, Boeser and Garland. We've got Klimovich coming up through the system. Eventually, someone is expected to push Boeser down. Then there's Hoglander. Man did he come out of the gate strong. What's likely to happen after two years, because over the period I expect us to be a bit of a tweener, is that Miller, Horvat and Hoglander all expire at the same time. Horvat will probably sign something team friendly and if Miller does too, with the cap going up and Hoglander under cost control, I'd say we have a chance to add something substantive. Not to mention by then, Klimovich will be ready and also Boeser and Pettersson will have gotten that much better. That's where I see the team going.

But this plight for Wright crap? Not a chance. Wright, in my eyes, is Arizona bound. Boy do they need him. We're definitely keeping our first in 2022 because if we don't it's going to come back to bite us. I'd pick a defenseman, preferably a leftie because we have Woo in Abbotsford. Woo should be ready by 2023, I think he might be eligible for waivers next year and I'm confident with his play in the past that he'll start out as a bottom pairing guy. As a comparable, I'd say Travis Hamonic but with the Islanders, not with us. Not to mention, Woo will be ready by the time Hamonic's contract expires, which is also when Hoglander, Miller and Horvat all have expiring contracts. If Hoglander has another good couple of years, he'll ask for at least $4 Million, Horvat will ask for at least $6.5 Million and Miller will also for at least $6 Million.

Personally I think Chicago could still be a contender, Toews or no. Name Jones captain. With this stockpile of young talent they've got, plus Kane, Johnson and Jones, it looks bad right now, but if they can just sneak into the playoffs they can do damage. Kane has proven that time and again. They'd need a couple of those young players to emerge into legit top liners. DeBrincat, Dach should be, but what about guys like Nylander, Borgstrom, Hagel? And if they could somehow use this situation to null Toews' contract, that would be the windfall of the ages, as they could go HAM at UFA next summer.

Who do they replace Toews with? Trocheck? Domi? Kadri?

Was there a whisper of Messier being a locker room cancer before he came here?

What Messier did was not equal to what Toews did.

Toews did nothing to protect his teammate and all Messier did was rub a few guys the wrong way. Toews watched Kyle Beach get taunted, disrespected, sexually assaulted and sexually harassed while all Messier did was mail it in a little while he was here. Also, Messier put up 60, 48 and 54 point seasons while he was playing here. I know the people who watched said he was terrible, but he certainly wasn't as bad as Player Name and Player Name was here for FIVE years while Messier was only here for THREE. Plus Messier wasn't costing any cap space he was just costing the team money which isn't our job to care about.

Did Messier wear Wayne Maki's #11 when he could've chosen another number, like #27 which is what he wore in Cincinnati. Did he steal the captaincy from Trevor Linden? Did he watch Mike Keenan dismantle our team? Finally, did he cover up a rookie getting raped by someone who should probably be a registered sex offender? Case closed.

Now we'll get to this Green Jacket nonsense. People don't realize that Chychrun is actually a very talented player. Seth Jones is also a good player. Jones plays on Chicago, which just traded their first to Columbus and moved their defensive stalwart in Duncan Keith to the Oilers. Chicago could probably compete in the central, but Arizona? I mean Chychrun is holding the whole team together but Jones? He's got guys helping him out. Chychrun has Stralman, Soderstrom and Timmins and that's just about it. At forward, he's got Kessel, Schmaltz, Keller and Hayton. That's it. So yeah, Arizona is a tire-fire because of the damage done by John Chayka.

Chicago and Seth Jones though? Well, he'll be there for the duration of that contract, he'll get traded or he'll get bought out. Chicago's dynasty is definitely over though. Chicago doesn't have the talent to go the distance and Toews and Kane are too old to wait. DeBrincat is good, but he's also small and is a complimentary player. Strome needs to be traded. Borgstrom is more of a bottom six guy. Adam Gaudette is there for depth. Kirby Dach is probably a good 2C. Mike Hardman looks promising. Brandon Hagel is another good player. But on the backend? Nah, Chicago is mediocre. But Arizona, they're downright horrendous.

He’s definitely not a good player. Was terrible last year, couldn’t make the team this year, and the Sharks couldn’t get more than a 7th round pick for him. If he was good in any way, at least one of those would not be true.

This matter is subjective though. I think he's a good player, strong down the middle of the ice, PPG player in the AHL, 12 pts last year in in 49 games which is good production for a bottom six player. As a 4C, right-handed, 25-years old is he better than a guy like Gaudette? I'd say they're both around the same, Gaudette's done more in the NHL by a long-shot. The point is, I think he's a good player. You don't and that's fine, you don't need to be a dick about it.

He was pretty good in his limited time playing in Montreal and was drafted only one year after Olli - I am excited for him.

44 games, 8 points (15 point pace), 18:19 TOI, 98.7 minutes short handed, 73 blocks, 118 hits, +6, 59.7 DZS . His possession numbers are pretty poor but in short he played in a defensive role, solid minutes, physical, and finished at a +6. I think he still has some solid upside.

He was drafted in 2015, a year before Juolevi not after. Juulsen was drafted in that insane first round in 2015. His tools when he was drafted were probably superb but at the pro level it hasn't translated. Benning is betting that bring him into his hometown can turn him into a solid filler hopefully something more. It's likely he could end up on waivers (again) but I hope he succeeds.

Lammikko though, idk. He looks like a good bottom six guy, maybe Benning regrets not drafting him. Either way, we've got something back for Juolevi after wasting that top five pick on him due to organizational need.

He would make a good replacement for Toews…

Chicago is not a fit for Eichel. They don't have the cap for it, they'd have to move a core player like Toews, Johnson, De Haan or Strome. If they trade Strome, they can't trade Dach at the same time. Dach would be the only piece I demand if I'm Buffalo.

Eichel could be a strong fit in Vegas, Seattle, Montreal, Calgary, Washington (Kuznetsov included) and especially the Columbus Blue Jackets. If I'm the Jackets, I give up a center, 2 1sts and some salary. Then they've got a elite setup guy in Eichel alongside one of the best shooters in the league in Laine.

^ this. Strome is a massive defensive liability and he's not worth the $3m cap hit. I can see why CHI is interested in trading him. Pretty sure they will also want some kind of decent return for him, which also makes it a no-go. Things we need more: a top 6 RHD and another legit but cheap 4C.

Strome could go to Nashville, Columbus, NYR, or the Canadiens, who have recently been looking for some help down the middle with the loss of Kotkaniemi and Danault. How about Ylonen and a 2nd for Strome?

  8. Okay so Nashville is going to have to keep Johansen because he's untradeable. They'll try to keep Forsberg, who could net a massive return. It'll make sense to trade Josi at some point, they'll need to retain salary but a team that has a plethora of picks and prospects might want to give up a lot for him. Rinne is gone and Saros is good enough to hold the goal for another five or six seasons. Granlund and Duchene also stay.

What I'm saying is that with these prospects coming up through the ranks are good (i.e. Evangelista, Tomasino, Tolvanen, Afanasyev, L'Heureux, Svechkov) but they're all forwards. Eventually, Nashville is going to have to replenish their defense. I don't see that happening in 2022 with all the forward headliners they have and in 2023 they could be candidates to get Connor Bedard, an elite forward they've never had.

But, it's time for Nashville to rebuild this team, which is why I'm disappointed in this signing overall. Ekholm should've been moved to a team like Toronto, Florida, Colorado or Vegas for some quality young players. I'm talking about defensemen or goalies, maybe another center. They won't get anything back for Johansen and probably negligible for Duchene but they'll get a huge haul back for Forsberg and Josi. It's time to move on to something bigger, faster, stronger and younger.

  9. If Ho Sang was dealt with properly, he'd be as good as Kaprizov. Nobody could get it out of him, but if you saw the way he played in Midget and in the OHL you'd see that he was elite. In fact, back then, he was slightly lesser than McDavid. He's definitely fallen hard. Drafted in 2014 which was 7 years ago, he's 26 now. If I were him I'd go to the KHL so I could rake in the dough but he wants to make it in the NHL and for him the AHL is the first start.

So would I.  Problem is, Tampa would hang up the phone if offered that.

If we gave them a 2nd instead of a 3rd, they'd do it but I'd rather keep the pick. We could also trade Juolevi he doesn't prove to be better than Hunt, I personally don't want to trade Juolevi but we're gonna need help on the right side if we lose Hamonic

Like the Canucks , the Flames had an off year last season...On paper, their team is still fairly talented..imo

    Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk
    Mangi-Monahan-Coleman
    Pitlick-Backlund-Dube
    Lucic-Richardson-Lewis
    x: Ritchie, Gawdin

    Hanifin-Tanev
    Zadorov-Andersson
    Valimaki-Gudbranson
    x: Stone

    Markstrom
    Vladar

That team isn't very good. That second line? They can't put Lindholm and Monahan on the same line any more because of their lack of center depth. If they utilized their cap space in the future, it might make sense to make a pitch for Eichel that includes Backlund, a boatload of prospects and picks and then maybe another piece. That way, Gaudreau can play with Eichel while Tkachuk and Monahan can play with Lindholm. Then there's the D. Hanifin as their top guy? Really? With Tanev? Than there's Zadorov, who isn't a top four guy but they're trying to develop Valimaki. Markstrom is what holds the team together and Vladar is a decent backup. Overall, this team is way worse than we are. Probably a tweener.

We probably wouldn’t trade BOTH Hughes and Boeser if both Rathbone and Klimovich developed, but it would certainly give us some options.  Boeser will need to be reupped at the end of this season while JT Miller’s contact will be up two seasons from now.  The Canucks will have some cap decisions to make.

My ultimate point is that if some of our young guys get good relatively quickly (Rathbone, Klimovich), it expands our options.

Klimovich will take two years. Rathbone is ready now. I would rather have Stankoven over Klimovich, but our scouts said otherwise.

We'll sign Hughes 4X6 and Pettersson 3X7, plus we'll have to trade a pick to replace Hamonic. Simple. The metropolitan division is the only division that has NO teams that are a foregone conclusion to miss the playoffs, everyone else has someone who is going to bow out. A 3rd to replace Hamonic, probably less than we paid for Travis and then Hughes and Petey will play. No need for trades.

These are just ideas man, lol.  Atleast on a slow day.  Get the balls rolling so to speak.

My only *real* thought is that I’d consider moving both Hughes and Boeser (for a top RHD, 1st rounder(s) and subsequent cap space) IF guys like Rathbone, Podkolzin, and Klimovich take significant leaps in their games over the next 12-18 months.

We can't trade all these guys man it's a bad idea they're not meat
