I had no idea he played the right side as a lefty.  That actually changes things a bit as he would be a great add.  If Chicago has no cap maybe we throw some picks for Zadorov and Nylander’s rights:

    Hoglander Pettersson Boeser

    Nylander Miller Garland

    Pearson Horvat Podkolzin

    Motte Dickinson MacEwen

    Ekman-Larsson Myers

    Hughes Zadorov

    Joulevi Schenn

Either way things are shaping up better than last year.

    Alex Nylander SUCKS

Trading ANOTHER pick for Zadorov? I'll give them a 4th in 2023, that's it. If Zadorov gets better, great. I think he's a replacement level player that can potentially be a defensive stalwart in the ilk of a Chris Tanev. While Chris wouldn't yield a great return in a trade, he would be crucial to another cup run in Vancouver. Can Zadorov fill that hole on the second pairing with Hughes? I'd rather pursue Cal Foote, but the Bolts will probably keep him on a modest two-year deal. I'd give Zadorov 4y x 4.25m to match what Tanev got. Zadorov will play with Hughes, Myers will play with OEL and Juolevi/Rathbone will play with Schenn. All three pairings are highly balanced, particularly a third pairing of Schenn and Rathbone who is a formidable offensive defenseman.

Did you not watch the draft with all 3 Hughes brothers had Twitter a buzz, you don’t think New Jersey sees adding Quinn as a Marketing home run with getting the 3rd Hughes brother which so far has the best career this far

If Quinn gets traded it will be because of New Jersey calling Vancouver and not Vancouver shopping him.

I still think Quinn is a great player but I don’t see Vancouver winning a cup with a small #1 defenseman in the Pacific division and would much rather get Smith and Holtz as the main part of a trade with Hughes.

We can't just trade everybody lol

Or if a team is willing to overpay then you have to at least listen

You realize these are human beings? You don't throw them around like pieces of meat. There are certain considerations that need to be taken into account, which is why every trade that looks like it makes sense on paper may not make sense off the ice. Why would the Devils want Quinn Hughes? They already have Ty Smith and their first pairing is set with Luke Hughes joining them most likely in 2022-2023. If Quinn plays his whole career here, he'll be known as the best offensive defenseman we've ever had. Better than Jovocop. It's time to commit to these players, build around them and make some noise in the playoffs.

  4. 1. Murray is a LHD

    2. Murray will cost

    3. OEL will handle most defensive responsibilities

    4. We can't trade Rathbone, that would be crazy. Trading Juolevi for a RHD would be a good idea, but we wouldn't get much. He probably isn't worth more than a third rounder right now, so it makes sense to keep him and hope he gets better, which he will. Think Olli Maatta as a comparable.

    Let's  see...

    EP - $7M x 4yr bridge

    QH - $6M x 3yr bridge

    Hamonic - $2M x 3yr

    Schenn - $1M x 2yr

    Dickinson - $2.25 x 3yr

    OJ - $1M x 2yr

    Halak - $2M x 1yr

    ------

    Total = $21.5M

Approx $9M left to get a RHD or other.  Maybe less if EP and QH get a bigger salary for a long term contract.

Quinn will cost $7M, EP will cost $7.5M, so we're down $7.5M than there's Dickinson who will cost at least $500,000 more, so that's $7M. I think we may be a destination for David Savard, which is a great after recouping that draft pick. We gain a better player who is more suitable for the position and we get a pick back. So far I've been pleased with this off season, especially a long-term contract for another top six forward.

I think if they're re-signing Hamonic though it'll be with the expectation that he's better next year. I've got to say, the Islanders got a hell of a haul for the player for what he actually brings.

  6. I've been dying to talk about this for a while. If Laine gets traded, where does he go? Certainly, if I'm Columbus, I'm trading him out west so I don't have to face him, so that's 16 teams. Vancouver, San Jose, Seattle, Arizona, Anaheim, Winnipeg and most likely Nashville are the teams that in the west that I would say, for one reason or another, are not a good fit for Laine. If I'm Columbus, I would want four assets for Laine. If I'm trading with Los Angeles, I'm asking for Turcotte + Bjornfot + 2022 1st + 2023 2nd. If I'm trading with Minnesota, I'm asking for Fiala + 2022 1st + Boldy/Rossi. If I'm trading with Anaheim, I'm asking for McTavish straight up.

If Patrik Laine isn't a fit in Columbus, he's not a fit in Columbus. Certainly if I'm Columbus, with the centers they've drafted and with Laine's relative youth, if Columbus rebuilds for four years, he'll only be 27 or 28 years old when the rebuild is over. They'll have a superstar winger in his prime, with some great young centers, some assets in their prime, some great goaltending with the management staff they have there you can't go wrong. I'm basically saying that when you trade a player like Laine you rarely get the assets back that you need to make it worthwhile. I believe that Columbus absolutely fleeced Chicago in the Jones trade and I believe they can do it again with Patrik Laine or even on a smaller scale with Elvis Merzlikins. But should they? It's hard to say.

Both please. I'd prefer Hakanpaa over Schenn but I'd guess he's hoping for a similar contract to Oleksiak.

Schenn is probably worth $850,000 whereas Hakanpaa could cost $2.5-3 Million. Not even in the same stratosphere.

If we can bring back Hamonic on a cheap one-year deal we do it, but Woo will be ready mid-season or by next year so we'll be good with OEL, Schmidt and Hughes.

I totally agree with you but we don’t know what EP and QH are going to get for term or dollars yet. Imho that’s what’s going to dictate whether we keep Schmidt or not. Heard that contract talks are very close to an agreement, and if you can offload Schmidt’s cap and pick up two players who can fill plug any remaining holes in the roster you have to do it. Schmidt isn’t part of the core, which we need to cater to and build around.

I hope we can keep him. He’s a great 2 way Dman and what this team needs. But between him and Myers one of them is moveable at that salary and I don’t think it will be Myers.

It’s a shame to move him but what this team has lacked is depth in all positions. JB has done a great job of addressing it so far and with the market being the way it, could likely fetch a nice return/profit on Schmidt. Asset management.

Let's say QH43 gets $6.25M, EP40 gets $7.25M, Garland gets $3.5M and we trade Holtby at 33% retained for a 2nd Round Draft Pick in 2022. We've got enough cap after trading Holtby, signing a replacement and then keeping Hamonic and possibly Sutter or a Sutter replacement for the fourth line. I find Jujhar Khaira to be very intriguing for our bottom six

Might need the cap space though. Even with Holtby traded/bought out.

OEL and Schmidt is a great top pairing. We haven't had a defense with this many good players since 2012. If Schmidt can bounce back, he'll be contributing to this team in the ilk of a guy like Dan Hamhuis. You don't trade players like Hamhuis they're too valuable. Vegas needed to get rid of him due to cap concerns and now it's time for us to deploy him in a roll where he can be most useful. It might make sense to put Schmidt and Myers on a pairing together, Hughes and OEL and then sign one more defenseman to play on the right side with Rathbone/Juolevi

  10. We need to keep Schmidt. I think moving him without a viable replacement would be a mistake. If we could get a right-handed guy to replace him, allowing more space for Juolevi and Rathbone. A pairing of OEL-Schmidt, followed by a pairing of Hughes-Hamonic/Goligoski/Schenn/Savard/Ceci, followed by a pairing of Juolevi/Rathbone and Myers. Whoever doesn't win the 3LD spot becomes the 7th D, unless they both make opening night in which case somebody will have to sit.

I think Chicago has to be a loser. Essentially giving up three first round draft picks, and a second round pick for Jones. Then signing him to that contract. What a $&!# show

They did it for another run at the cup with Toews and Kane. I think it's an ill-advised choice. Do they have enough space to bring in Landeskog or bring back Saad or add to their defense even further? Could they be a destination for Alex Edler? Mikael Granlund?

If I were Bowman, I go scorched earth on this team. Build around Sillinger, Dach, Boqvist, Hardman, Kubalik, Strome, Beaudin and others. Who do they have in goal? Plus they could keep Kane and Toews to help the youth grow, like how we kept the Sedins. Instead their loading up like they're taking home a fourth cup. Ridiculous.

Manson has to be the target in a trade.

6’3 215 lbs. Tough as nails. Mobile. 29 years old.

See if Anaheim will trade straight across for Schmidt.

Manson? How do we get him? Schmidt for Manson straight up? Does Anaheim need a LHD that badly? Do they do this because they can't re-sign Manson long term? Do we do this to free up space in the future?

This Ekman-Larsson/Garland/Guenther/Dead weight trade is the biggest trade since Luongo for Bertuzzi in 2006. I really think this is what brings us back into the conversation as a dominant team.

  13. Holtby should be traded. Keeping Schmidt would be prudent.

If we can use the Holtby money to bring a second rounder for next year, assuming we retain, while Virtanen will be bought out most likely. Keep in mind, Tony DeAngelo will be available and I could see a team taking a chance on him. We won't as I don't want to alienate our entire team like what happened between Hoffman and Karlsson in Ottawa. I see this iteration of the Canucks as similar to the Senators team of 2016-2017 under Guy Boucher. That group of players had a better chance of any Canadian team in a while of winning a championship. It's a shame it all got torn apart. We need to restock some picks but we don't have the assets to do so. It would be incredibly foolish to trade our first rounder in 2022, so I hope Benning holds onto it. We'll be able to restock later as long as we hold onto what we have and enter the trade deadline of 2022 with a conservative approach.
