If Jarmo is ever available as a gm the Canucks should jump all over it. Picked PLD when everyone else thought he would take Puljujarvi and he was right with his selection. Then flips Dubois for BOTH Laine and Roslovic which looks great right now. He got Artemi Panarin and tyler motte in a trade with Chicago for Brandon Saad. Got Seth Jones for Ryan Johansen which again worked out great.

This year he walks away with Adam Boqvist who will step in right away, Kent Johnson who might be the most skilled player in the draft, Cole Sillinger who is among the hardest working in the draft and could be a future captain, and Corson Ceulemans who could be steal.

It's not his fault that Columbus is a destination that not alot of players want to stick around at, but he for damn sure does his best with what he has.

Loading up at the deadline with Duchene, Dzingel and McQuaid wasn't the greatest idea but I can understand why he wanted to win in the present and drum up some interest from the fans. If I'm Columbus, I look at trading Laine. I don't know if he fits into the culture they're building. Laine for Eichel? Laine to Los Angeles? Laine to Carolina? Laine to Montreal? There are options out there. If I can get one of Los Angeles' centers, either Turcotte or Byfield. If I can get Jack Eichel or Rasmus Dahlin straight up. You get the picture.

If Columbus can find a way to accommodate Laine's quirks, like his lack of willingness to play defense, they should totally keep him. Columbus is probably a bottom-feeder and I'm not sure if Patrik Laine wants to waste his prime years there when there are some great trade partners available in the western conference. Dallas? Minnesota for Kaprizov/Fiala? Los Angeles would be a shoe-in. We'd be out of consideration as would Calgary, Edmonton, Seattle, Vegas and Chicago unless they're willing to lose more assets. The rest of teams, like maybe Colorado who might need to replace Landeskog, would be clamoring at the chance. Imagine MacKinnon and Laine playing together? Money in the bank for the NHL. Meanwhile, Columbus replace Laine's star power with Kent Johnson and Cole Sillinger.

Benning is gonna manhandle him. Probably 2.5mil 1 year lol.

Garland is worth at least $3 million, maybe $4 Million. I think keeping him for 3-4 years and then re-evaluating is the way to go, exactly what we did with Burrows. Garland is a right-handed shot though, he's smaller, faster and has a better shot than Burr. I don't think the comparison to Burrows is particularly apt, but that's just me.

  3. What are you guys talking about? The point of the modern NHL is that ANY team can win ANY year. Yes, the Lightning circumvented the cap and loaded up and then won for a second consecutive season. I'm not pleased with it. But if we get a good seed, like 2nd in the division, and we get out of the first round, anything can happen with a team that is three lines deep, which our team is. If we keep Virtanen, he could play in the bottom six and be a real wildcard. We shouldn't, but if we do for the purposes of asset preservation and long-term planning it would be clutch.

  4. Reinhart to the Panthers? That's interesting.

Florida definitely has prospects to sacrifice and picks to give up. If I were them I'd focus on building a strong defense, They've got Ekblad, Weegar, Forsling, Nutivaara and a skilled veteran in Stralman. I think there's room for an upgrade there. But Reinhart? Another forward? I guess they think they can compete with the Lightning, especially since the Lightning will get gutted.

  5. With 41st Overall, I'm thrilled we're at least getting a chance at a blue chip prospect. If we get Aatu Raty, I'll be thrilled. Raty looks like a bottom six guy, but his pedigree reminds me a lot of Nils Hoglander in 2019. We get a hit here, we're golden. Stankoven is also a strong name as is Scott Morrow, Evan Nause, Sasha Pastujov (who would be a homerun) or Danil Chayka. I really hope we can get a 2nd rounder for Holtby, that would really make up for trading all those picks to Arizona. Guenther could be a star.

  6. Savard will cost too much, we can't afford him. Adding one more forward and two more defenders along with signing Garland, Pettersson and Hughes will be a tall task. We can't take Savard on top of that. To clear cap, Holtby and Virtanen have to go. Holtby could probably fetch a draft pick whereas Virtanen probably just gets bought out and signs somewhere else as a UFA. Maybe his personal issues will preclude him from playing again, but we need to get that money off the books so we can add another bottom six guy hopefully a center. I don't think bringing in a retread like Sutter is the best move. Sutter may have a home on a team like Toronto, Tampa Bay, etc. I don't think a return would be good for him or the team.

Hamonic should come back though, he's a solid second pairing guy which is exactly where he'll be playing with Quinn Hughes. I don't know if Nate Schmidt fits with that high cap-hit but if we can't find a replacement for $2 Million less than it's not worthwhile. His replacement for me would probably be Goligoski and I think Savard would cost at least $5 Million even though Larsson only went for $4 Million. Savard is the superior player, so he'll make more and I get the sense Larsson took a haircut for a fresh start in a new market. Savard would be great, but trading Schmidt out when we've committed to him by trading a pick out is just not prudent. Keep Schmidt, playing him with OEL and they'll be lights-out.

Dach is a beast and going to be one of the 10 best players in the game soon.  Toews is still there..as is Kane and a Debrincat.  True..they had no reason to make this trade.  Boqvist is going to be awesoms in 2 yrs.

I already thought Boqvist was good enough

I read someone say: Look at all this asset management by Columbus lol trading Johansen for Jones, then trading Jones for this ridiculous haul of goodies. I agree 1000%

They know what they're doing there in CBJ with Davidson and Kekalainen. Chicago trying too hard to win again with their two stars. They traded Keith, it's time to turn the page. Trading Boqvist, two 1sts and a 2nd doesn't do that. Than they sign this behemoth of a contract. I don't get it.

Hes fine in his own end.  He just plays a non-chalant style.  Hes missing that extra gear.

I think the Blackhawks just ruined their rebuild

They should've stayed patient but they want to please Toews and Kane. I wouldn't trade either of those two but I'd certainly trade some of their other older guys. Plus they have that Seabrook albatross. It makes sense to rebuild through those bad Seabrook years but that's not what the vets want. Honestly, if that's not what they want I don't see much harm in trading them instead of moving all your good young players for fixes in the short-term.

  9. MILLER PETTERSSON BOESER

    HOGLANDER HORVAT GARLAND

    PEARSON DICKINSON PODKOLZIN

    MOTTE ??? ???

    OEL SCHMIDT

    HUGHES ???

    JUOLEVI MYERS

    DEMKO

    ???

We should sign a RHD like Hamonic for two years to wait for Woo to be ready, if he's ever good enough to play in the NHL. Jurmo will probably play in the AHL at some point, I guess he tops out as a middle-pairing guy. We've got Juolevi, who has some untapped potential. I don't think our team can continue to stock up high draft picks, collect prospectsa and hope for the team to just get carried by the kids. You can't just have a bunch of kids on your team, this isn't Pittsburgh in 2006 the league has changed. If you want to win, you need a mix of vets and players just reaching their primes or well before it. Demko, Rathbone, Hughes, Garland, Hoglander, Pettersson, Boeser and Dickinson have yet to reach their prime. We didn't have the defensive prospects to fill in that defense with homegrown players so we went out and traded for them instead.

    Think about this realistically:

We traded a first rounder this year and a second next year to get rid of $12 million in dead weight while brining in a contract that has a ton of term left on it. OEL has shown that he's a fairly durable player so he can probably play well like Edler until he's 35 or 36. The cap will be higher and we'll probably gain some prospects in 2022, 2023 and 2024 that can replace the veterans that Benning has put in place. Like Cheveldayoff in Winnipeg and Bergevin in Montreal, I see now that Benning will be here long haul if this team makes the playoff next year. Although a new GM would be nice, I'd rather the team win and if we get some hits on some future picks the team will stay competitive.

    Be positive folks

    Watch him score 20 goals

    Could you imagine? lol.

This is a great trade. I don't like losing the two picks, but we've got a top six forward easily in Garland. He was third in scoring on a terrible Coyotes team, while a budget-conscious and rebuilding Coyotes team will probably sink to the bottom of the central next year with the Wild and the Predators. This is a valuable draft pick, but if Edvinsson or Eklund fell to us it's wishful thinking that either of them would be as good as Garland or OEL. OEL is a known product we've also added another great young forward who can play with Hoglander and Horvat. This team is definitely a top playoff team. The trouble for us now is the lack of prospects, which is something Benning can remedy. Good move.

  11. I think Seattle just used the expansion draft to stockpile picks. I look at some of these picks and I hear about the choices they've made and I've concluded that there's been an avalanche of trades. The Kraken probably made a dozen trades, so they've probably added some 1sts, some 2nds and some 3rds as well as some solid prospects.

From Pittsburgh - They didn't take Pettersson or Zucker

From Columbus - They didn't take Domi

From Lightning - They didn't take Palat or Foote

From Blues - They didn't take Sanford or Blais

From the Avalanche - They didn't take Landeskog

From the Bruins - They didn't take Clifton or Ritchie

Maybe from the Kings - They didn't take Maatta

Than there's the players that could be on the move. I've heard rumors on here about Giordano, I don't think they'd introduce him to the fans if they planned on trading him. Than there's teams like the Lightning, who have a Seattle-born player in Johnson who could really improve the offensive talent on that team. Obviously, the Lightning also have a young defenseman in Cal Foote who they could throw in a sweetener to take Johnson off their hands. Johnson would fit in well with a former teammate in Gourde, something that would be valuable to a young team like the Kraken. They dodged a bullet with that Price commitment and the same thing with Tarasenko, I think they've opened up some really interesting possibilities.

Would Seattle be interested in trading with a divisional rival? Certainly a three-way trade where Cal Foote ends up on Vancouver as a long-term replacement for Tanev. I see some fire with Foote and I think Seattle might have interest in Schmidt, who played on an expansion team previously and was successful. He could add a leadership element Seattle doesn't have, besides after that shutdown pairing they don't have any good puck movers besides Dunn and Giordano. Giordano will probably be traded for picks at the deadline while Dunn will probably stay with Seattle for an extended period of time.

Their lack of depth at forward is a concern, but they've got a great supporting cast with some solid defensive forwards and I think if they can add some forwards from teams that are too deep to promote from within, for example the Lightning, the Kings (even though they're in a rebuild they have too many forwards. Than there's Carson Soucy, who I think would be an attractive fit with a lot of teams.

Furthermore, if we're looking for a player on Seattle to breakout as an offensive star I really think Calle Jarnkrok is the guy to look for. I see him as a 45-55 point player on a team that doesn't deploy him as a primarily defensive player. They're really going  to need to look for more wingers and centers to score goals or they're going to suck worse than San Jose and Anaheim.
