  1. 1st unit is not utilizing Bo at all. Bo gets at most one or two touches during the powerplay. I think it's too simple, they need to diversify their attacking options. I think they might as well crash the net when shooting lanes don't open up. Miller and Horvat are big bodies and EP is deceptively good at picking up rebound goals. Let EP float a shot on goal with Bo and Miller near the net and Boeser and Hughes staying back. EP can hang around the net for any rebound. 2nd unit looked much better partly because when things don't work, they just crash the net.
  2. I don't know if I'm sold on Green just because of this one game but have to give him the credit for calling that time out. It helped the guys to regroup and focus on the game at hand. But man Petey was flying tonight. He is gonna be special. He's gonna break almost every Canucks' scoring record.
  3. This is at least an interference. The refs sucked big time tonight.
  4. Could become a 20G20A player this season. This game showed great promise, almost a statement game. He is coming around, it took a while but he is surely coming.
  5. Great win. Great intensity from all the players. But we need some size in the lineup.
  6. This is a great game for Virtanen to build on. Keep it up Jake!
  7. I hope so too! But his intensity is no where near those two this year.
  8. Why is Virtanen in the box? Reeves grabbed Virt's visor, Virtanen did nothing?
  9. Linden had multiple ways to get involved in the game. This type of players have become rare and hard to find now days. Hate to admit it but the most recent Canucks that was close player to Linden we had was actually Kesler. High intensity, physical, great wheels and above average offensive game, great defensive game.
  10. Yeah. Bo's repertoire is far too simple at the moment, speed through the neutral zone to gain momentum and go in on the goalie. If you can't hit him with a pass in stride, it's fairly simple to neutralize him. On defensive side, he is playing against the opposition's best players but his line is more often than not, dominated. I think his positioning is generally poor and doesn't anticipate/read the play very well. I'd like to think that his game is still evolving, after all, he is only 24. I'd love him to add physical element to his repertoire and also to try to dominate the game down low, protect the puck and make plays down low.

    Olli Juolevi | #48 | D

I agree. Comparison to other players at this point is useless. Yes, Juloevi was not the best choice at #5. It should have been choose one of {Tkachuk, McAvoy, Keller, Sergachev}. We just want him to pan out, become an NHLer. My only hope is that he can still pan out to be a top4D that can replace Edler.
  12. Might as well add Bertuzzi Moore incident to the list. I'd say we beat Flames in 2004 with Bert in the lineup. That could have been our 3rd appearance in the SCF.
  13. If Getzlaf can be had, I would love him on Canucks. 6'5 playmaking centerman at 33 years old, who is just off his peak but still playing at a high level with one more year left on his contract. He can show our young guys what it takes to win. He can even QB our powerplay with Quinn. And if we make the playoffs, help us win a round or two. Problem is that there is no way we can fit him in unless we find a new home for Baer and Loui. And I doubt he wants to come to Vancouver, he probably wants to retire a Duck. Fowler would be great too. You can never have enough of puck moving defenceman on your team.
  14. Virt has to go... hit more if he wants a long and successful NHL career. This is a guy that can skate faster than Hansen and weights 30 pounds more, and yet doesn't hit. How sad is this? After a 2nd period like this, 3rd period was always feisty. Guys had too much pride to just bow out like this.
  15. This game makes you miss the Sedin era Canucks. That team had multiple ways to win. 1. Sedins went to work everyday like a clock. Goal a game, 5-on-5 or PP. 2. Kesler, Burrows, Bieksa, Hansen, and later Torres, Malholtra, Lapierre, and etc. These guys banged body and played a feisty game when needed, especially when on odd nights, Sedins weren't as effective. They could win you a game combined with, 3. Luongo and Schneider keeping the opposition to 2 or less goals on most nights with the help of 4. deep defence that was also decently sized and knew how to move the puck and, 5. AV's system. The current Canucks team is far far far away from that. But it would be great if we get some players that plays the body more frequently (too bad Ferland is injured). But it can't be just one guy, it has to be the whole team. If skill and speed is being neutralized, you gotta bring the physicality and win the game on that front. Get to lose pucks, use your body to knock the oppositions off the puck, and win the puck battles. Like how many times did I see our forecheckers just do a fly by on their defender? Too many to count. This team has speed and skill but it's so one dimensional. Either the coach is not doing his job and simplifying the game or the players aren't listening.
  16. Me too. This is like letting the other team have possession on purpose, waiting for a shot on goal or loose puck. The thing is, if the other teams have fast and stronger players, you aren't getting the puck back.
  17. Same pattern as last season. The Canucks play an exciting style of hockey for the first 10-20 games, then the teams adjust and the players are kept to the perimeters and can't break out. Even with a one man breakout machine in Quinn Hughes, it's difficult. This time, we have better players but more or less the same pattern.
  18. Let me recall.... was it just Larsson or was there a pick included? lol that was the worst trade in a long time, trading a Hart caliber player (who actually went on to win Hart) for a top 4D. McDavid, Draisaitl, and Hall, three Hart level players on the same team, could have been real scary.
  19. I was reading it seriously until this. Goldy couldn't get the puck out of the zone and he was mostly invisible in the offensive zone until EP spoon fed him the puck. And yet, he hit posts or missed. At least Brock gets breakaway and shooting opportunities from the slot. The problem with Brock is that his shot is not as heavy as it used to be. Don't know why, they need to figure it out.
  20. This really happened? lol that's so random. why the Subbans? Could have easily been a line of Last Name-Last Name-Last Name.
  21. OK. Well, I guess we disagree on whether EP is better than Marner right now but agree that he can and will be better than him at some point (hopefully soon). I think point totals matter in this particular case if you want to argue that EP > Marner because Marner can do quite a lot of things well such as PK on top of massive points that he puts up. EP < Marner on points and EP < Marner on defensive assignments, then How can we argue that EP > Marner? Just because he is a center? Yes, wingers have less responsibilities than centers but that alone isn't enough IMO. I think that Marner is a complete player as much as EP is a complete player so unless EP equals or exceed Marner in points, the positional argument that EP is a C and Marner is a winger isn't convincing enough to say that EP > Marner. And that's just my opinion. So to summarize, 1. EP hasn't matched Marner's point totals yet. 2. Marner kills penalties and is sent out in the last minute of the game to defend a lead. Something that EP hasn't earned the trust of the coaches to do just yet. 3. EP is defensively sound 5-on-5, so is Marner. But EP does bare more responsibilities since he is a center. From the above premises, I conclude that it's premature to say EP > Marner just yet. Until, the point #1, EP exceeds Marner in points scored or EP starts killing penalties and defends leads. For example, even if EP puts up 80 points and Marner 100 points, if EP kills penalties and defends leads, and contributes to winning games as a centerman, then I agree that point totals don't matter as much. I almost feel like Marner is underrated here because he plays for Toronto. If someone asked me to choose between Matthews and Marner to have on the Canucks, I don't know maybe it's just me but I'd go with Marner.
  22. Sure. Except, Marner is also an all around player. Don't get me wrong, I'm praying everyday for Petey to become the best player in the world. And, I think he has that potential. It's just that I have a problem with people thinking that he is already the best player when he isn't there yet. Yes. You are also, entitled to your opinion.
  23. I don't understand. Marner already put up 94 points last season. To be fair, this is just EP's second season. EP's second season > Marner's second season. Yes. But until EP puts up 90+ points, we can't make claims that EP is already better than Marner. Even a big Canucks homer like myself can't make that claim, although I badly want to say the same! I mean, Marner even kills penalties on top of PP and dominating plays 5 on 5. The only way we can make that claim is when EP surpasses Marner in offensive categories, i.e., points.
  24. I guess EP is more important to Canucks than Marner is to the Leafs. Leafs have other players performing at the same or higher level. But that doesn't mean EP is better than Marner. Let's see how many points EP puts up and let's see if he can lead us to the playoffs. When both players at their peaks, I think EP will be better but EP is not quite there yet.
