I don't disagree. Glass is going to be good. And that's why JB should be praised for making the call to go with EP. EP's ceiling was so unclear at the time whereas people knew Glass as he played in the WHL. Glass looked like as sure a thing as there is to becoming an NHLer at that time and he will become a very good one. EP didn't look like a sure thing at all but now he has potential to become a perennial 100 pt scorer and potential to be an MVP of the league at some point.

We made exact same post but you did it 23 hours before me I think getting the right player with 5th or 6th overall is difficult due to there being many quality candidates. You really need to do a good job of scouting. And history shows that getting 5th or 6th overall is no easy task. 2018: Zadina over Hughes. Detroit may have made a mistake there for Canucks gain. 2017: Glass vs Pettersson. Looking back, it took some guts from the Canucks to select EP because he was anything but a sure thing. A scrawny kid that only weighed 160 pounds and back then, he didn't quite have the shot that he has now. If anything, Glass looked like a sure thing. I'm the first to admit that I thought we were getting Glass. 2016: Juolevi over Tkachuk. This one hurts us. Tkachuk was a ahead of Juolevi in most rankings but we needed a defence and went with Olli. I think Olli can still have a good career but Tkachuk is already a quality NHLer. It doesn't help that OJ had so many injuries to contend with. 2015: Hanifin and Zacha were picked with 5th and 6th overall picks. Provorov, Werenski, Meier, and Raantanen were picked with 7 to 10th overall picks. Zacha is not even in the NHL anymore I think. 2014: Dal Colle (probably going to bust) and Virtanen over Ehlers and Nylander. 2013: The teams picking got the right player with Lindholm and Monahan. 2012: Same as 2012 (Rielly and Lindholm with 5th and 6th overall picks). 2011: Ryan Strome over Zibanejad and Scheifele. I remember Scheifele was actually a bit of a gamble pick by the Jets (could be wrong with this). 2010: Niederreiter and Connolly over Skinner. 2009: B. Schenn and OEL. Good picks. 2008: L. Schenn and Nikita Filatov. It wasn't a great draft but those two were picked ahead of Erik Karlsson, Tyler Myers, and Jordan Eberle. 2007: Alzner and Gagner over Voracek (7th overall) and Couture (9th overall). 2006: Kessel and Brassard. Good picks. So 2006, 2009, 2012, 2013, and 2017, the GMs made good decisions but otherwise, they left a better talent on the board due to poor scouting or poor decision making. 5th or 6th overall picks are anything but a sure thing.

Two of three top ten picks Tallon had were first and third overall picks. The other one was 7th overall, Jack Skille. So Tallon is 2-for-3 on top 7 picks. Hitting a homerun for a 1st overall pick is easy. Hitting a homerun on a 3rd overall pick is not too hard. Hitting a homerun on 23rd overall pick, 5th overall pick, or 7th overall pick is harder. Easy. Garth Snow. 2014: Michael Dal Colle (5th overall) 2012: Griffin Reinhart (4th overall) 2011: Ryan Strome (5th overall) Top 7 picks are nothing but a sure thing. JB may have missed on 2014 and 2016 drafts but he made up for it in the other drafts and picking well in the later rounds.
  5. I'd rather try and sign him as a UFA. We probably won't be able to afford him though. Too bad that we have 9M of dead cap (Eriksson + Luongo) because that's about 0.5-1M shy of what Hall is worth on the open market.
  6. Just have to let the time pass... But to think that we have his 6M + Luongo's 3M = 9M tied up... we will need that cap in the near future
  7. That 4-on-3 in the OT was poorly run, failing to set up EP for one timer on PP was very disappointing. There was a Flyer parked right in front of him, preventing that one timer but that has been the case since the 2nd half of last season. The fact that our PP coach still hasn't figured out a way to get EP that one timer is very disappointing. Every team knows OV is going to let it rip from his zone, and yet, it doesn't stop OV from ripping the puck. With Washington, the play is made down low by Backstrom and Kuznetsov from either side, which makes it hard to predict when the puck is going to make its way to OV. And they have Oshie relaying the puck, who himself has an ability to let it go when the opportunity arises With us, it's predictable when the puck is going to either Boeser or EP as the play is made by the lone defenceman up top in the center (the so called umbrella alignment). Some tweaks are needed to change the way PP is run to allow EP to shoot with more regularity. Maybe Newell should go with alignment that gave him the most success during the Sedins era. Put Boeser on Salo's spot, EP in Henrik's spot, Horvat downlow (Kesler), Miller relaying the puck in the middle of the ice or moving down low as needed like Daniel did, and Hughes on the left side. Miller-Horvat-EP Hughes-Boeser Hughes can move down and make a cross ice pass to EP for a shot and if EP can't shoot, he can defer it up top to Boeser for onetimer or a wrist shot. Hughes and Boeser can interchange positions as needed to set up for one timer from the left slot. During the Sedin era, that PP alignment became predictable as Henrik can't shoot the puck. But with EP, they have to respect that shot so maybe it will work.
  8. Not sure if I would throw Green under the bus so soon. He's obviously no Scotty Bowman but I think he deserves one more year of evaluation before we know if he'll be good or not. This is probably the first year in which he actually have the horses to compete against the rest of the NHL. And I'm sure he knows that this year could be his last chance with the Canucks. If we don't take a significant step forward this season, JB has no choice but to fire him (before JB himself gets fired).
  9. That's actually a good point. Never thought of it this way before for some reason. Honor them by "retiring" the jersey forever up to the rafters but players should be able to wear them if they want to. Most people probably wouldn't dare wear 99 though.
  10. A hard question but in my humble opinion, if a player escalated the sport and the league to another level from where it used to be, then he is worthy of league wide jersey retirement. It's more for their contribution to the sport rather than how great of a player they were. In Basketball, only MJ is deserving of league wide retirement. A predominantly American sport that became popular worldwide thanks to his airness. All you need is a hoop and a ball to play. In hockey, that's 99. A predominantly Canadian and sport in the midwest and northeast US, became more of a thing in North America and probably Europe as well (not sure about Europe to be honest, maybe it was already popular before the Great one).
  11. I predict that we win this one and that Pettersson scores.
  12. Yes. Basically, he promised to revamp the defence and add more scoring depth to help Brock, Bo, and EP. Defence: - Re-signed Edler at short 2 year term at decent cap. - Signed a top 4D (Myers) at decent cap to complement Edler, Tanev, Hughes. That's a playoff caliber defence when healthy. - Signed an affordable physical top 6D in Benn. - Depth D in Fantenberg is also a solid signing. Scoring: - Ferland and Miller bring 40+ and 50+ points respectively. - Re-signed Brock at a lower than expected cap hit. Now we have cap structure that can accommodate EP's next contracts within a reasonable amount. Barring EP winning Hart trophy, I think we may be able to sign EP to a contract around Sebastian Aho's 8.5M. Drafting: Pod, who was rated #3.
  13. lol Gaud did not expect that. It's good to have a veteran Beagle hockey player to creating havoc a fun environment.
  14. Brock's gonna go win the cup for his dad. Bring his dad on the ice after he scores the GWG in the OT.
  15. Games 1-3: The number of domestic violence/accidents due to destroying of TV increases. Games 4-7: Half the population of BC suffers stroke.
  16. Can't imagine burying a 6M player in the minors. He will make the team... whether that's good for the team or not, will depend on how Loui plays. I hope he brings some urgency to his game for the first time since signing with us knowing that his job and his NHL career is on the line.
  17. It seems like Swedish hockey fans choose their favourite NHL team based on their favourite Swedish hockey player. Not a large sample but a lot of people seemed to like Detroit Red Wings because of Lidstrom and Zetterberg. It's going to be Vancouver Canucks pretty soon with Pettersson. It's weird seeing the Devils logo beside EP's name. EP was born to be a Canuck.
  18. Bertuzzi's playing weight during WCE was probably around 240-250 pounds. He decided to shed some weight as he got older when he was playing for Detroit to around 215-230lbs. Anyhow, don't know what you guys are arguing about and I might be wrong but hard to imagine Bert at 229 pounds doing some of the stuff that he did to others.
  19. I commend you for owning up. But where does your impression come from, that Sedins's first choice is not Bo? I'm surprised that the Sedins would give any indication on this matter one way or the other. EP in few years would be a great captain as well but he has not earned it yet in my opinion. The team needs a captain and I think among the core, the best choice is Horvat. In a few years, when EP does become the second coming of Gretzky like you think he will, we can always change the captain. Heck, we don't even know for sure if Bo is going to stay after his current contract or if he will be traded for that matter. After reading your post, I have started to wonder if I missed some dirt on Bo. Maybe he is a jacka$$. I don't think you can go wrong with Bo for the time being.
  20. Depends on what the problem is. I've had good experiences with chiro when it comes to stiffness and improving range of motion due to small muscle mis-alignment and things like that. For example, I couldn't drive for a while because I couldn't turn my neck to do a shoulder check. Chiro helped with that. If it's something beyond that, like you have a disc problem or something, then go see a doctor.
  21. I'm actually quite surprised that you feel that way. I'd prefer Bo to say what he feels rather than pretend to be humble and decline. In my opinion, pretension is more gross and disgusting. If he says something like "no, I don't feel like I'm ready for the role." Then what should the team do? And if the team decides to select him, then should he act all surprised and all? "Oh! no! I didn't expect to be picked! Why me? I'm just a humble hockey player..." That would be gross.
  22. Captain should play a prominent role on the team in terms of ice time and score sheet and also be a mature person who doesn't lose focus. Sounds like Bo is the guy. Love EP but still too raw in his emotion and dealings with the media. I am a supporter of this management group but if there is one thing they can make them lose my support, it would be choosing someone like Sutter or Edler as captain over Bo because of seniority. Well, if not for Bo, Edler may be more deserving of the role but Bo is the closest we have to Linden since, well, Linden. C: Bo A: Sutter/Beagle, Edler
  23. Agree. Draisaitl is not a center. Edmonton would not have sucked if Draisaitl put up 50G 100 pts as a 2nd line center behind McDavid's 116 points. As for shutdown line, I feel like it's a strategy for teams with lack of talent. If your team is not talented, then you have not much choice but to employ defensive players and hope to keep the scoring low. Now we have enough talent to not have to ice 2 shutdown lines. I actually think Sutter can still be useful if healthy at both ends of the ice (he scored 20 goals before) but maybe we should keep him on the wing. The article suggests Miller as an option at 3C and I think that might be a great idea. Ferland-EP-Boeser Baer-Horvat-Pearson Eriksson-Miller-Sutter Virtanen-Beagle-Leivo Goldobin Motte Roussel (IR) Schaller (trade/minor)
  24. We sign/trade for Del Zotto? Now, that's bold. And $hit, is that a new commissioner? Dang, that is one bold prediction. End to Gary Bettman's reign of lockouts terror. Whatever it is that you are trying to depict in that screenshot, I hope it happens next season or very soon.
  25. 1. We make the playoffs. 2. Hughes gets 50+ points. 3. EP gets 85+ points. 4. Eriksson scores 20 goals 5. Goldy wins a top 6 spot and scores 20 goals.
