  1. Thank you Marc Bergevin for not picking Zadina. If he picked Zadina, Detroit will for sure pick Quinn Hughes. HM to Chayka for picking Hayton (good pick in hindsight) rather than Zadina. Detroit, don't worry, Zadina will be a good player... just not as good as Q.
  2. Yeah screw Ottawa. We win in 2011 if they don't have Chara. Ottawa would have had the best D pairing in the world had they not let Chara walk with Chara-Karlsson.
  3. It goes both ways. With defence covering EP, it's going to open up a lot of space for Toffoli as we saw today on his first goal and partly on his second goal.
  4. Sutter was as soft as Butter on that play. Cost us the first two goals against today.
  5. Btw, Canes' players were working harder than usual. If they add a good goalie at the TDL, they have a chance at the cup.
  6. lol and this is a team with salary cap of 95 million dollars. Matthews: 11.63M Tavares: 11M Marner: 10.89M Nylander: 6.9M Avg: 10.105M. They are paying 10M per for 4 forwards and these guys still couldn't beat an amateur goalie.
  7. I sure hope so. Btw, if Boeser is coming back before the playoffs, wouldn't it make more sense if Toffoli play with Horvat and Pearson? When Brock is back, he will be back on the first line with Miller and EP so Toffoli will be moved to the 2nd line anyways. Might as well let Pearson-Horvat-Toffoli build up chemsitry.

You are right, he is very accurate in his judgment of prospect's trajectory and he uses it effectively in making trades. I still remember trading Forsling for Clendening and how JB confidently said he can see what type of player Forsling would become: in Clendening we are essentially getting fast forwarded version of Forsling or something along that line. Well, that was the most accurate assessment of the two players. I'd hate to lose OJ because I think he still has quite a bit of potential but if JB trades him to get a two way top 4D (not rental) and dump Eriksson's contract, then that would be an acceptable trade. Edler-Myers Hughes-Tanev Tryamkin-New guy acquired in OJ trade This is going to be a great D core.
  9. Great idea! But knowing Bettman, he will introduce a cap-recapture penalty for any player that retires to take on a front office job moving forward, starting with Eriksson.
  10. Very informative. Thanks. That trade makes more sense now.
  11. It's weird. Toronto is in the market for a defenceman (https://www.tsn.ca/insider-trading-teams-calling-defence-thin-toronto-maple-leafs-1.1427452). And yet, they want to trade Barrie. How bad is Barrie for them to want to trade him when what they need is exactly that: a defenceman. Personally, I'm not against it if we can get him for Stecher + small payment. People say that he can't play defence but I think if the Canucks are to beat anyone in the playoffs, we would need more offence. Re-assess at the end of the season and decide between Barrie and Tanev if we do end up getting Barrie.

That's such a conniving thing to say after all those years that Brock has been a good friend to you. And you even donated to Minnesota chapter of Parkinson's disease for Brock's father when you hit both your shots at over 100MPH at the hardest shot competition!
  13. lol this is so funny. So they trade Barrie for Stecher because Stecher is better than Barrie? If it's Stecher for Barrie, 1-for-1 trade, and assuming the cap numbers work out, I'd say, why not?
  14. I agree. Gets pushed so easy when it's convenient for him.
  15. If OJ is traded for Simmonds, I'm retracting my support for JB. But yes, Sutter is soft. He was soft when he first got here and he still is.
  16. Looks like Stecher is the new CDC whipping boy. Nothing he could've done on that. NHL should extend 3-on-3 to 10 minutes and call it a draw after that. Shooutout isn't fun to watch anyways.
  17. I hope we can but logically speaking, I don't think it will happen. So let's say there is a defenceman named "A" who is an upgrade over Stecher, who by the way, is a rental himself since his contract expires this season. If the team that has "A" is a seller, then they don't need Stecher because they'd rather tank for better draft odds. This team can simply get a better deal from another team. Since "A" is an upgrade over Stecher, who himself could probably get us a 3rd rounder, they should be able to get at least a 2nd for "A". If that team is a playoff team, then they are selling a defenceman they need in the playoffs for a downgrade in Stecher for what? A 3rd round pick? The GM would be fired if they exit the playoffs earlier than expected.
  18. I didn't. Let me try. F: 34.175M. With Toffoli, Virtanen, Gaudette, Motte, and MacEwen to be signed. D: 15.8M with Tanev, Tryamkin, and Rafferty to be signed. Total: 51.025M Dead cap Spooner: 1.03 Luongo: 3.03 Baertschi: 2.29 (buried) Total: 6.35. Total confirmed cap: 57.375M. Let's assume the cap goes up to 83M. We have about 25.625M left. I'm going to assume Toffoli at 5 Virtanen at 2.5 Gaudette at 2 Motte at 1.5 MacEwen: 1 Tanev at 5.5 Tryamkin at 2 Rafferty at 0.7 Marky at 6 Total needed is about 26.2M, which is more than 25.625. It would seem that we will have to trade Baer off the roster somehow as well even if we retain 1M of his salary. Even then, it's quite tight but it's not a 90M roster. But yeah, keeping Toffoli beyond this season might be a challenge.
  19. That was a very honest press conference. Very informative. The forward group next season will look like: 1. EP 2. Miller 3. Horvat 4. Boeser 5. Toffoli 6. Pearson 7. Virtanen 8. Gaudette 9. Roussel 10. Beagle 11. Motte 12. MacEwen 13. Eriksson (assuming he doesn't retire, and why should he say no to millions of dollars?). Sutter traded to make space for Toffoli. And I assume Ferland will be on LTIR. This is a pretty good forward group. Defence is a bit harder to predict but assuming we re-sign Tanev: 1. Edler 2. Hughes 3. Tanev 4. Myers 5. ? 6. ? 7. Benn #5 and #6 spots up for grabs with candidates being Juolevi, Rafferty, and possibly Tryamkin. They will do everything they can do give OJ some NHL time next season as long as he is healthy. But my prediction is that the two spots go to Tryamkin and Rafferty.
  20. I'd rather keep Boeser at 5.75 M than to sign Toffoli, who will ask for at least 5M. If only way to keep Toffoli is by trading Boeser, then it's a hard no to Toffoli for me. I don't trade Boeser unless it is for a top pairing D-man (or projected as top pairing) in the similar age range or a forward of similar caliber in the similar age group (projected 30 goal scorer on a full season). First and foremost, we need to trade Sutter and Baer. Both of those guys' has an expiring contract and their cap hit isn't too large so it should be possible to find a trade partner. We probably have to sweeten it with a draft pick. I don't have any hope of trading Eriksson. I would send him to the AHL, although it only saves us $1M. Ferland won't retire but he will be on LTIR.
  21. Weber is 34-35 years old. Brock is 22. We don't know how many more years of high level of play Weber will be able to sustain. Brock is dealing with issues but he hasn't even peaked yet. I'd say no even if we can dump Eriksson's contract.
