Pickly
Not a chance. Rashad Evans was twice the fighter Shogun is and he got DESTROYED!!! I'll bet that he doesn't land one good punch on Machida. Rookies....
randomtask
Rashad Evans was twice the fighter of Shogun? Obviously you have only seen the UFC fights Shogun was in. Shogun was one of the most dominant fighters in the game for about 6 years. He's fought a who's who of the elite MMA fighters in the world and come out pretty well. I can not say the same for Rashad. Rashad has fought a couple of good guys and I'm not saying he's a bad fighter. But he is not Shogun by any stretch. WAS. I said Evans is twice the fighter Shogun is now. If Shogun had still been dominant the last few years we would've seen him fighting Jackson and Liddell and Jardine and all the other top contenders. Not many guys can continue to fight at the highest level for years at a time. I'm no Evans fan by any stretch, in fact just the opposite. But to reiterate my original point....Machida will win this fight tomorrow.
Silverforge
I am really looking forward to the fights tonight, hopefully Shogun gets back to his old form. If he does....what a war it'll be On a side note....TuF is so fraggin painful to watch, I've lost what respect I had for page. What a goof... I could care less who wins as long as it's a good fight. What you saw with Shogun in his loss in the UFC with Forrest, came because he had never fought in the octagon and the new rules and he was trying to hold back from what he normally does. If you watch it again you can see in the first round he takes forrest down and wants to finish him off with some knees to the head and or some head stomps. But then ends up having to back off. Those are the rules and he has to follow them, but it explains why he looked so tentative the whole time. He had so much muscle memory of fighting under the Pride rules that he had to rethink every one of his moves. As for his loss against Coleman. They fight for 40 seconds it's all Shogun, Coleman manages to wrap his legs up with his arms while he's pulling away, the guy fell awkwardly and broke his arm. That was the fight. It wasn't a fight where Shogun was fighting badly and got beaten badly. It was a freak fall. Hardly showing him going downhill in his fighting ability. He'll be fine against Machida. He used to be one of, if not the best, light-heavyweights in MMA, but lately he just hasn't been that great. Machida, on the other hand, has completely dominated everyone he's fought, including former champion Rashad Evans. The guy is untouchable. Machida should take this one easily. young guns
Shogun came back from 2 reconstucted knee surgury's and close to 2 years without a fight..... You people that say Shogun sucks only watch and know about UFC, and know nothing about MMA. I'm sure Shogun is ready and in shape for this fight and an in shape Shogun is right up there with GSP, BJ Penn, Silva, and the Dragon as the pound for pound best..... In my Opinion Machida has fought and beat Tito, who doesnt beat Tito?!? he hasnt won a fight since a 40 year old Shamrock.... Machida also beat Evans, now who really did Evans beat to win the belt..... Run Forrest run Griffen, he just got knocked out by a jab..... Evens knocked out Chuck, who dosent knock out Chuck lately?!? Machida won a decision over BJ Penn a decision, I know BJ is tough, but isnt he a light wieght?!? Dont get me wrong I like Machida but you guy's overrate him and underrartes Shogun and this is gonna be great fight I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Shogun wins this fight..... One more thing, when's the last time Machidas fought a true Tai Kickboxer? Evans a wrestler learning how to strike, Tito a wrestler and ground a pound specialist not a great stand up game, Tiago Silva ground and pound can box a bit but no kicks, BJ Penn, I dont think has ever tried to kick... Well Shogun will know how to block and watch for Machidas kicks and he'll be able to kick back...... I cant wait for this fight, so stoked..... I haven't heard as many excuses since Canucks Talk when we missed the playoffs. Seriously, Shogun up there with Silva and GSP? That's not an opinion, it's complete idiocy. Machida is the most dominant fighter at 205 in MMA today. Even Silva was quoted in saying Machida is the best fighter in the world today. Quite your yapping, Machida is going to anally sodomize Shogun "Pride GP" winner or not.

Canuck_4_Life
Machida's strike % is over 60 and according to Dana White, may be the least hit guy in MMA. I don't see Shogun making it to Round 4.
Captain Bob
Just watched UF from Wednesday night. I'm so happy Darrill won. I'm sick of Rampage calling him titties. Rashad is now 6-0. I hope he runs the tables.

Harbinger
One of my favorite little tidbits of info I have seen in a long time. It's from last January and I am pretty sure I posted it here before. But it's cool regardless so I'll repost it. http://www.fightmetric.com/blog/2009/01/fe...to-machida.html Sunday, January 25, 2009 Fedor Emelianenko vs. Lyoto Machida First things first: We're still looking for volunteers for the Reach Data Project. It takes very little time to participate and it would help us a great deal. We have a few new things up today. The first is an updated report on Fedor, which now includes the bout against Andrei Arlovski. The other new material all relates to Lyoto Machida, including a career report, and reports on his fights against Sam Greco and Sam Hoger. Most people wouldn't put Machida in the same league as Fedor (at least not yet), but there is something very important that ties the two together. To demostrate, let's play a little matching game. One of the best ways to measure effective defense and dominance is to look at the number of strikes a fighter absorbs. Because of variable fight lengths, the easiest way to consistently calculate this is to figure the number of strikes absorbed divided by the number of minutes fought. That gives you the number of strikes absorbed per minute of fighting, which we abbreviate as SApM. Here are some SApM figures for the five current UFC champions: Fighter A: 0.71 SApM Fighter B: 1.01 SApM Fighter C: 1.23 SApM Fighter D: 1.39 SApM Fighter E: 2.7 SApM The fighters in question are (in alphabetical order): Rashad Evans, Frank Mir, BJ Penn, Anderson Silva, and Georges St. Pierre. Can you guess which SApM number belongs to which fighter? The answers are pretty predictable: Anderson Silva: 0.71 SApM Georges St. Pierre: 1.01 SApM BJ Penn: 1.23 SApM Rashad Evans: 1.39 SApM Frank Mir: 2.7 SApM Let's wrap things up with two more fighters' numbers: Fedor Emelianenko: 0.59 SApM Lyoto Machida: 0.64 SApM Both Fedor and Machida have proven harder to hit than all of the UFC's champions. And it's not like there is a shortage of data on any of these guys. These numbers are from their entire careers. Does it mean Fedor and Machida are better than the other fighters? Not necessarily...this is just one subset of their entire fighting profile. But it is interesting to note that Fedor and Machida come in #1 and #2 in terms of the hardest guys to hit in MMA history. Stemm
Anyone see Dana White on 20/20? I think that was the show He was getting interviewed about how popular UFC is getting. Him and Chuck Lidell were flirting with each other like usual. Then he showed off his car collection. Puke. What a freakin tool this guy is. Now I know why Anderson Silva despises Dana and his chronies. Douchebags are getting rich off the backs of talented fighters like Silva.
