Yann Sauve Talk

Personally, I would keep Sauve and get rid of O'Brien, SOB is too much of a Headcase (Loose Cannon).

Damn, no, SOB is not the headcase that too many think he is. Yes, he had his issues (being in shape, showboating (though some like this)), but he was 7th on the team in PIMs per game. Considering his role, he was actually quite disciplined. Burrows and Kesler had more PIMs per game! Why do so many want that "headcase" Kesler to be our captain?! He's just an out-of-control "headcase", even worse than "Loose Cannon(sic)" O'Brien...

I'm pretty excited about Sauve, but, please, let's restrict ourselves to reasonable arguments.

Obviously, but I'm sort of confused how getting it just towards the net is good enough. Seems a little vague, but we all will see if that has improved in camp. Last year he would fire missiles whether it be his slapshot or wristshot but would fly them over by 1-2 feet. At least he isn't as bad as Shane O'Brien, but one common thing is that if they would hit the net they would have ended up with some goals.

(Unless I'm interpreting you avelanch incorrectly?)

So let me see, Sauve needs to go to the Moose because he can't hit the net, but O'Brien is worse than him but he stays up, makes total sense to me. Personally, I would keep Sauve and get rid of O'Brien, SOB is too much of a Headcase (Loose Cannon).

Yann Sauve is going to the Manitoba Moose because it's the next step in his development, since he is done in juniors. (Possibility of being on the Canucks too)

what do you most people on here think about his chances on making the team to begin the season this year with Salo's injury and Bieksa most likely needed to be moved.....

i personally think he has a legit shot at it since he will be competing with SOB, Rome and Alberts for bottom pairing duty.

Hamhuis - Ehrhoff

Ballard - Edler

SOB - Rome/Sauve/Alberts

The odds are slim to none. He'll play for the Moose and develop there and hopefully be successful. We have too many NHL-calibre d-men right now in front of him. It will do Sauve no good to be a #7 or #8 d-man when he can be a 15-20 minute a night guy on the moose.

If a player like Alberts get sent to the AHL, most likely he won't be called up, since other teams probably wouldn't mind claiming him for 1/2 price, which makes Sauve a more viable option to sub in for injuries.

That being said, I think the Canucks will try to use Rome as much as possible to figure out his true potential in the NHL. He's already too good for the AHL, and he does show flashes when he's on the Canucks.

i don't think Sauve can be a regular this year either but i DO think that if Alberts is gone then he and Rome could alternate in and out of lineup... all that depending on camp ofcourse.

It could happen but I still doubt it. As much as I don't like Rome, it's important to note that he's still WAY further along in his development than Sauve is at the moment. And don't forget about Oberg and Tanev either. They may turn a few heads at training camp too; especially Oberg

I know its not worth a whole lot at the moment but I've known him for a couple of years so he signed the front of my jersey and I had the back customized. I know the numbers and name-bar are off centered, they weren't sewen on yet when I took the pic

Pretty slim. I don't even think he is a shoe-in to play on the Moose. I think there is a better chance he plays for the Salmon Kings than the Canucks.

I think it's a 50-50 chance right now, but you're right in that he might actually start the season in Victoria.

Nice! It was great to get info from a Sea Dogs fan's perspective throughout last year - thanks a lot! :) Hopefully you can still keep us posted with updates on Anthony next season :D

I think it's unlikely for Sauve to get a call up this year with all the D-men ahead of him which is fine as there's no point rushing him into the league, give him lots of time to learn the pro game in the AHL and he'll be better for it.He probably will be the first of our prospects to make the NHL full time, though,as he's one of the few shutdown type defencemen in our system and has pro size already. He could take on Mitchells role on the team one day.

Oberg on the other hand I don't really see a spot for in the organization anytime soon. With Edler getting better every year,Erhoff having a breakout season and established puck moving D-men like Ballard and Hamhuis added this summer on long term contracts,he'll have a tough time finding a spot to play.Plus,he has strong competition coming in with Connauton, who probably brings a better offensive skillset and is bigger and more physical to boot, and Tanev, who put up impressive numbers in his rookie season in college and posesses great hockey sense.

There's also Jeremy Price and Patrick McNally in the system who will likely be fighting for pro jobs by the time Ballard and Hamhuis contracts are up if Oberg is still around.

By most accounts,Oberg still has a long ways to go to be NHL ready and it does'nt help that he's 22 and only listed at 165 lbs. That right there basically limits his role to be a power play specialist with a limited defensive role and I don't think his offensive skills can make up for his limitations.

Players get weighed and measured when training camp begins. Oberg has probably added at least 15 pounds, over the course of last season and during the offseason.

Oberg should around 200 hopfully and atleast 190 in order to remain full time. I see him getting first call ups this year, and then serving as a bottom pairing guy next year or year after.
