Whats with all the Hate on Hodgson, up until two days ago people were still baffled by this trade.

Now there is people calling him a cry baby and comparing him to Eric Lindros.

Like wtf quit trying to make yourself feel better by making Cody seem like the bad guy. He isn't, he was completely caught off guard like all of us by the trade. And now that gillis has said that Cody MAY not have wanted to be here people just seem he was whining every day to be traded im sure that wasnt the case every time we saw cody talk he was a proffessional and a great young player at that. He would play where ever he needed too and as far as i have heard he was liked by his teammates not a cancer in the locker room so stop bitching and complaining about Cody.

Cody has a lot of years left in this league.

Gillis does not.

This is not going to end well for Gillis, nevermind he has violated his own principles of his mandate as a GM.

Since Gillis has not taken the high road and obfuscated his responsibliities Gillis has committed the big no no.

Here is my point.  Both teams lost; on this deal.  Buffalo did not make the playoffs ... but they made ground in the 20 games that Hodgson was there.  We (Canucks) on the otherhand stumbled into a presidents trophy after the deal. And this is the real point ... how deep did we get in this years playoffs?  Could we have used the secondary scoring this year?  Could we not have gotten the same deal for Hodgson in the off season?  Sounds like Gillis shot off his own toe to make a point.  We made sure Hodgson does not get to showcase himself in these playoffs ... but in doing so ... we also lost some much needed secondary scoring. I am not saying that Hodgson alone could have won us the 1st series (we will never know) ... I am saying Hodgson on our team in this years playoffs would improve our chances.</p>

MG is trying to cover the fact he made yet another terrible trade, getting nothing for Hodgson and Sulzer.  But MG's real problem is AV, who wouldn't playShirokov, Hodgson, Grabner, Ballard, etc.  If AV's still here next year, there will be another crop of young players or trades he won't play, and we'll be forced to trade them.  I have the feeling there was stuff going on between AV and Hodgson - pretty evident from the end of the first tryout where Hodgson was hurt.  Pretty clear in retrospect that Cody was not impressed by the way he was treated and wanted out as soon as he felt he had a value that was recgnized on other NHL teams.  Good move on his part.  Cody's rep before Vancouver was that he was a proud, character guy.  Vancouver cast aspersions on his character, and he responded with FU - politely, of course.

Everyone is forgetting the major point MG stated. He spent more time talking with Crybaby in three years than with the rest of the team combined.

That lets you know how much of a pain in the ass selfish player he was.

Lets just see how things unfold over the next couple of seasons. MG is not a stupid man, if he traded Coho, there was a damn good reason.

All we had before was just pure speculation and now that the truth comes out and it`s not what Hodgson lovers wanted to hear, they`re all butthurt now. Get over it. He`s no longer here and obviously he and/or his camp was causing issues with the coach and GM. He's a freakin' rookie that hasn't proven anything in this league yet and his father/agent thought they had the right to tell management how the ROOKIE should be played. Management obviously had enough of dealing with them and probably thought they would just continue to be bothersome and wanted to get rid of the cancer. Deal with it.

when you're a rookie, you don't ask for more ice time. you play whatever you get.

heck he's only 22 and he's already asking for more ice time that he hasn't earned.

he should be lucky to even play on a contending team, look at detroit...i dont see many 22 year olds playing on the team.

People taking Gillis' statement as the word of Allah make me laugh.

There are at least 3 sides to any story.

Gm's side

Players side

What actually happened

Everyone colors things to suit themselves.

What gets me is this was Gillis' first draft pick and for months it was"future Canuck captain, quality guy, clutch performer"

Now it is

"problem child,issues,whiner etc"

So who drafted the whiner again?Who scouted the whiner? What is going to change so this doesn't happen again?

Here's my take on the whole situation. Both sides royally screwed the pooch; this whole thing has been a disaster and a black mark on the organization and Cody Hodgson.

Gillis made several huge mistakes:

  • (1) he traded a prized asset for what appears to be less than what he is worth. Regardless of whether or not Cody demanded the trade, he should have gotten a lot more, or at least someone who could have helped THIS season.

  • (2) this trade should have be done in the off season. It really messed up the chemistry of the team, most notably on the second PP unit, and it definitely impacted secondary scoring. Cody made the players around him better (Higgins, Hansen etc.), our third line would have been a bigger threat. There's no denying our scoring was improved with Hodgson in the lineup: 3.14 team goals per game average with him in the lineup, 2.36 without him.

  • (3) Gillis has damaged his reputation by first refusing to discuss any details around the trade, then completely throws him under the bus with these bizarre comments, including letting other GMs know he utilizes the "pump and dump" strategy.

Hodgson is also to blame for this gong show:

  • (1) The whole ice-time shenanigans is unbecoming of a rookie; look at Jordan Staal in Pittsburgh; he doesn't seem to have a problem being 3rd line Centre behind Crosby and Malkin. Needed a team-first mentality.

  • (2) He was having a breakout season before all this crap. The ice-time he got was enough to get him noticed and even put him in the running for rookie of the year. If he had gone quietly about his business on the third line then asked for a trade in the off-season all this could have been avoided.

  • (3) He should have put a muzzle on his agent and the rest of his camp. No need to be tweeting this crap. His agent is an idiot.

Both sides are to blame for this; can't we all just agree that neither side handled this very well and move on?

Gillis did not say Cody was a whiner and he did not throw him under the bus. He explaine the situation and the outcome was obvious to all but the biggest homers. He spent a lot of time on Cody's issues, they determined he didn't want to be there, he had a list of players Cody would be traded for, one became available and they pulled the trigger.

Pretty simple. Both sides erred, but there was no name calling or under-mining credibility, just a straight up answer to a question that was never going to stop being asked.

But of course Canucks fans have to play analysts and shrinks and dive to the real psychological heart of the matter I'm sure.

Here's an article out of the Edmonton Journal that we all should read before we start hating Hodgson.

http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/2012/04/25/on-mike-gillis-cody-hodgson-advanced-stats-and-curious-claims/

This past season while with the Canucks, Hodgson had the following face offs:

157 - defensive zone

212 - neutral zone

171 - offensive zone

Why did Gillis dump on Hodgson yesterday? I wonder ...

Does anyone have a link to a story quoting Cody or his agent or his father saying a trade was asked for?Or even a quote about more ice time by the three previously mentioned?

Gillis said so does not meet the requirement, nor does "We made a determination that Cody was unhappy".
