John.Tallhouse
Like Elvis’ no-hips-allowed appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” or the Beatles’ arrival in America, or Woodstock, it is considered one of the milestone moments in rock history: Bob Dylan going electric at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. On Friday, the Fender Stratocaster that Dylan plugged in at the festival sold for nearly $1 million — the highest price ever paid for a guitar at auction. A buyer identified only as a private individual agreed to pay $965,000 at Christie’s, including the auction house’s fees, for the sunburst-finish electric guitar. Just wondering, If you had the dough, would you fork up 965,000 for his Fender Stratocaster? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1TKUk9nXjk Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music-arts/bob-dylan-electric-guitar-sells-1-million-article-1.1540241#ixzz2mtuEwPYx
kyledude
I have the same guitar and I paid much less than that. Granted, it wasn't played by Bob Dylan, but still... it's just a Fender Strat, after all.
Kumquats
If it wasn't for the Beatles, Bob wouldn't have plugged in a guitar. If it wasn't for Bob, the Beatles wouldn't have made Sgt. Pepper's.
TOMapleLaughs
No. Guitar would be nice to have, but not at nearly that much. Overrated moment for an overrated musician. But that obviously didn't stop some lover from spendin' the big bucks.
Gurn
That is a wack of money. Before buying something like that I'd need about $100 mill in the bank, after all I'd have to still pay for my fur lined sink and gasoline powered turtle neck sweater. Just got back from Los Wages, and in Ceasar's casino is a little shop called Antiques and collectibles, many gutars and signd albums. Roy Orbison's acoustic guitar was going for almost 17 grand. http://www.antiquitieslv.com/servlet/StoreFront

Ghostsof1915
Dylan was a better songwriter than a performer. If I had Bill Gates kinda money. I'd buy a Stratocaster and give $1 million to David Gilmour to teach me to play.
TOMapleLaughs
Save the million. While it would be cool, David's not gonna teach you want can't be learned with far less expensive lessons.

GLASSJAW
by the way, Dylan claims to own the actual guitar he played at the festival, and this is just another strat he owned that went missing around the same time, and isn't THE guitar. he's been saying that for over a year. hmm! etsen3
Just wondering, If you had the dough, would you fork up 965,000 for his Fender Stratocaster? Yes, clearly if I play his guitar I will gain his musical talent and become famous. Not serious, but if I had the money I would consider. The price seems ridiculous for an ordinary guitar, but this article shows that people will pay a massive amount for rare items and if this guy holds on to it, it could be worth much more someday. surtur
ouch i would never pay big money for a cheap item just because it was played by someone famous. only time i would spend obscene amounts of money for a rather cheap item is if it was an Item that change humanity for the better like say a pen used to sign a world wide peace agreement or something like that. maybe i'm just not a big fan but i see nothing special about him or the guitar or the supposed time and place that it was played.
