higgyfan
Thought some of you guys would be interested in looking through this information http://www.quanthockey.com/TS/TS_AverageAge.php Canucks ranked at 20th overall. None of the teams (except Tampa) younger than them made the playoffs this year. I found it interesting that the average age of success in the playoffs is higher than in the regular season D & O players, but is trending downward for goalies. Jägermeister
Columbus also made it. Pretty surprising, but it probably helps that we don't have any players older than 33.
etsen3
I feel like the stats don't tell the whole story. Age distribution throught the lineup is a factor as well. Sure you could a low average age, but maybe the young players are all depth players and your key players are for the most part over 30. That's exactly our problem. spliced
Doesn't really tell the whole story, who thinks of Florida as an old team for example.

Absent Canuck
Its not the average age. Its our core players who define the team by playing in all the key situations. Sedins 34 Kesler 30 Burr 33 Bieksa 33 Hamhuis 32 Higgins 31 The only young guys making a regular contibution is Kassian 23 Tanev 24 and Lack 26 and Stanton
asian player
let's look at each team's core Chicago - Kane, Sharp, Toews, Keith, Seabrook - 28.4 Boston - Bergeron, Marchand, Lucic, Krejci, Chara - 28.6 Colorado - Duchene, Landeskog, Mackinnon, Barrie, Stastny - 22.5 LA - Brown, Carter, Gaborik, Richards, Doughty, Mitchell - 28.2 Pittsburgh - Crosby, Kunitz, Malkin, Neal, Orpik, Letang - 28.8 Vancouver - Burrows, Sedins, Kesler, Hamhuis, Bieksa - 31.8 The average age of the cores show that the contenders are in their prime. We are past the golden years I left Anaheim's out because I didn't really know who would be considered part of their core

They're like two teams in one-set for the present, and the future.

WestCoastDave
Thanks Asian and Nuxfan! Wow, that is pretty impressive on Anaheim's part. They are good for the present and the future. We should try and get 2 sets ourselves. Is there anyone we could interview from the Ducks organization for the GM spot?

We are past the golden years I left Anaheim's out because I didn't really know who would be considered part of their core LA - I would drop Gabo (quasi-rental) and add this guy named Anze Kopitar. You may have heard of him. Also Voynov over Mitchell IMO. COL - would add Erik Johnson. Boston - Dougie Hamilton makes them younger. I would say he is already a part of the core. Guest Dasein
Ducks are doing it right unfortunately This is why I like the Montreal Canadiens right now. Next season, they'll have: Galchenyuk - 20 Gallagher - 22 Tinordi - 22 Beaulieu - 22 --------------------------------------------- Eller - 25 Pacioretty - 25 Desharnais - 28 Subban - 25 Emelin - 28 Price - 27 --------------------------------------------- Plekanec - 31 Gionta - 35 Briere - 37 Gorges - 30 Markov - 36 They don't have the studs that Anaheim does in Getzlaf and Perry in their prime, but they are very well balanced and have Carey Price (future Vezina winner) and PK Subban (Norris winner) entering their prime. When Galchenyuk finally blooms into a #1 center in 2-3 years, Montreal will be right up there with Boston for the Eastern conference. Even now, if Montreal upsets Boston, I see them going to the finals and perhaps even winning. As for Vancouver, we lack good players between ages 24-28 that are entering their prime and ready to lead this team. That's what gave us success in the late 2000s to 2012 with the Sedins entering their prime. With Kesler being so close to their age, and nobody behind him that can take charge, we need to either make a trade or hope that our kids grow fast. Our time is up in it's current form. Sedins stay and as much as I like Kesler, him for something prosperous, please. And we had Luongo there a couple of moths ago. We have actually gotten younger this spring
