Canuckler87
Please don't hand out no-trade clauses like they are candy. Mr. Gillis thought he was smart doing that in order to save some money to fit under the cap. But what did it bring us? Egotistical players publicly asking for trades then handicapping us by saying they only want to go to one team. First it was Lu who some say only wanted to go to Florida. Then Kes with just two teams, Anaheim & Chicago. It really ties one hand behind the back when trying to get fair value in return. Even though the return for Kes was pretty good, it could easily have been a lot worse if Ducks didn't budge. Let's follow the LA model. They have only given one or two no trade clauses to players who deserve it. As Canuck fans, we are tired of good players asking for trades to specific destinations because there is already a feeling the return will not be good. Kind of makes us the laughing stock of the NHL. We should just be like "You want out? We're sending you to Long Island.. Garth Snow tabled the best offer. He'll take care of you".

24K PureCool
Don't worry, after the Kesler fiasco, Benning won't ever even talk about no trade clauses.
canucks155
Wow, LA has only 1 NTC, and, ironcially, it's Richards. I wouldn't mind NTC's, if they were on short deals, saved us over $1m per deal and if the player was proven. Giving Garrison, Burrows, Higgins, Hansen NTC's for no reason, was Gillis' downfall. Bottomline: Only give NMC/NTC to 1st liners/ top 2 dmen

elvis15
LA is a unique case that had plenty of cap space and didn't need to worry about getting discounts to stay under the upper limit. They didn't need NTCs as a result, but now that they're closer to the cap they will start to see more. NTCs aren't the enemy, and most successful teams have a fair amount of them. Even many bad teams have them, so it's time to stop worry about them so much as a major downfall (particularly after trading Luongo, Kesler and Garrison this year, all with NTCs). ChuckNORRIS4Cup
Jim Benning will address this to the Media shortly, as he has showed some interest in reading the Canucks Message Boards for tips.
BanTSN
Or maybe establish a team so our star players, y'know, don't want out? Do you see Ken Holland being approached by anyone ever about wanting out? Maybe Fedorov? And then look what happened to Fedorov.

NTCs should only be given if a player says, "give me one or I will not sign your contract". They really are a downfall. They aren't always good for the player either. Fortunately for both Benning and Kesler, Anaheim ended up offering a fair return under the circumstances.
