McDonald's reported its worst profit and sales numbers in a decade on Tuesday, suffering losses in every major segment of business. By contrast, In-N-Out Burger, which pays workers $11-14/hour plus health, dental, and 401(k) retirement benefits, continues to thrive and has been consistently ranked the top fast food chain in the US by Consumer Reports. Although I personally think most (if not all) fast food 'restaurants' are unhealthy and a poor choice in general, this news made me quite happy. In-N-Out Burger is probably unhealthy like all fastfood places, but at least they are setting a standard for workers and giving reasonable wages/benefits/etc. Hope this trend continues and companies like McDonalds keep getting exposed and outbeat while the general public take notice of this.

In-N-Out certainly isn't healthy...pretty tough to find a beef cheesburger and fries that is healthy, but in terms of quality ingredients, at the very least all of their stuff is really fresh and pretty decent quality. It's the California staple baby, I love it. I thought it was meh when I first moved out here, but I think the air in LA has destroyed my taste buds to the point where I freaking love In N Out now. And I HATE fast food.

Overrated? I've never heard of In-n-out burger and if anything at this point it's underrated.

They operate in the southwest US (as far east as Texas).

When I lived in California, they were one of the only junk food places, along with Round Table Pizza, that I'd eat at.

In-N-Out goes to the Langley Cruise In every year and from what I hear the line up is hours long. They must be somewhat decent.

The prob for anyone in SF was there was maybe one or two restaurants in the entire city. Mainly had it when I went to the Santa Clara Mercado, where the In N Out in the same plaza was always just packed.
