Hawks Send Bickell to AHL.

Ouch, that $4MM cap hit and $13MM contract has to hurt.

Andrew MacDonald now has company in the “highest paid AHL players” department after the Chicago Blackhawks demoted forward Bryan Bickell and called up Marko Dano on Monday.

Bickell, who signed a four-year, $13 million deal after the Blackhawks won the 2013 Stanley Cup, is pointless and through seven games after being waived days before the season started. Joel Quenneville putting him with Teuvo Teravainen and even on a line with Marian Hossa and Jonathan Toews wasn’t enough to get things going. The 29-year old has only recorded five shots on goal.

The move by GM Stan Bowman isn't one to clear a ton of cap space. The Blackhawks only save $950,000, while $3.05 million will remain, per General Fanager.

Dano, who was a part of the Brandon Saad deal in the summer, has a goal and seven points in nine games with the Rockford Ice Hogs. He recorded 21 points in 35 games last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, and much like  Teravainen a season ago, many fans have been clamoring to see him at the NHL level. He’ll likely get that shot beginning Monday night when the Blackhawks host the Los Angeles Kings.
