The Chicago Blackhawks are keeping a key piece of their management team around.

Senior Vice President and General Manager Stan Bowman has signed a three-year contract extension that will keep him in Chicago through the 2020-2021 season.

“I am proud of how much Stan and his staff have accomplished and have great confidence in his leadership as our organization continues to strive for consistent excellence,” said President & CEO John McDonough, in a release. “Under Stan’s guidance, our Hockey Operations Department is strong across all levels, including scouting, player evaluation and development, and salary cap management. He has created a sound structure that Blackhawks fans can be excited about for many years to come.”

Bowman is the first General Manager in the cap era to be at the helm for three Stanley Cup championships.

And now, he’ll have his usual running mate by his side for the foreseeable future.

Prior to inking his own extension, Bowman locked in head coach Joel Quenneville to a three-year extension in January.

Though Bowman didn’t hire Quenneville — his predecessor, Dale Tallon, was responsible for that — the two have worked in lockstep over the last six years and Bowman was the architect of the new contract that’ll keep Quenneville in the Windy City through 2020.

Other notable Bowman moves include the Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews extensions, the Brandon Saad trade to Columbus and the signing of rookie Artemi Panarin, who came over from the KHL and has been a revelation in his freshman campaign.
