Im a tad confused, many of the hockey experts are saying if Detroit trades Pavel's contract to a team, the team can terminate his contract only absorbing the caphit rather than salary.

Does it mean they pay the 7.5 mil for him or just the 5.5 that he has left on his final year of the deal?

It means they are still charged to the salary cap but not charged to the wallet

Euro not exactly same as Russian.  I know we NA grouped them together but don't think the Ruskies  see themselves as Euros.  Just sayin.

Russia is both a part of Europe and Asia.  It's major land mass is in Asia but its capital Moscow is in Europe. More people in Russia live in Europe than in Asia and politically and culturally Russia is more European than Asian...

Pavel Datsyuk's former agent tried to negotiate a 5-year contract extension, but GM Ken Holland was more comfortable with 3-years.

Datsyuk would end up wanting out just one-year into the deal, finally deciding after two years to move on to Russia to be closer to his family and play in the KHL.

This is according to Ken Holland

It's gonna be weird not having him out there for the Reds. He quietly went about his business and was a fantastic wing on and off the ice. The league is gonna miss him, he was definitely something else. Like a Kovalev who gave a damn.

It's gonna be even weirder when Zetterberg leaves too. Time sure does fly.

2.  Feel very privileged to have watched his career from day 1 in the NHL.  He truly brought a new level to the league.

My thoughts exactly... Sergei Fedorov and Pavel were both magicians all around the ice, from the nimblest of stick lifts and steals to unimaginable dekes and the counter-hits he lays on guys (still remember when he popped Shea Weber), 13's a special player through and through, and (along with the Twins) I'm not sure we'll see other magicians for awhile.

All the best to my favorite player.

A great name disappears from the league.

When he was at his peak, consistently rated the #1 player in the league... by the players... that says it all.

Offensively, Defensively, Attitude, Skills, Big Game performance.... Pavel delivered on every aspect.
