Carolina Hurricanes ready to make a push for playoffs

Trade Deadline Report:

It was a quiet deadline until the very end where Carolina Hurricanes struck a deal with Washington Capitals late last night. Carolina has been having some troubles keeping the puck out of their net in the last 10 games. it is why Carolina had to make this deal to make that playoff push. GM Zach Parise needed to stop the bleeding from happening and dealt Forward Sam Bennett and Defensemen Tyler Myers. In exchange Hurricanes acquired Defensive forward Scott Laughton and Veteran Defensemen Dustin Byfuglien from the Washington Capitals. Going forward, Carolina has to play better defensively and acquiring two defensively sound players could help them squeak in. "These last 20 games will be crucial and the team needs to play defensively, it was hard to let Bennett (Sam) and Tyler go, but its business and when you have a chance to make the playoffs you have to take that risk", says GM Parise.

Currently Hurricanes are tied with the New York Rangers for 8th place in the East. these two teams will most likely fight it out till the end. If Carolina has any chance to make the playoffs, Jake Allen has to play better in net. Allen has his career worst save percentage (.897) and GAA (3.01). The team needs to play really well for Jake, for Jake to play better. Defensively the team has to play better last 10 games they have allowed almost 30 goals. "You can not win in the league letting in that many goals in last 10 games, it was really frustrating to watch the team letting in goals and not making timely saves", says GM Parise.
