So here in Oz?

Our affiliate club the West Coast Eagles plays in its 4th AFL Grand Finals in 12 years, Stanley Cup equivalent, as favorites Saturday. Against the AFL's version of the Raiders, the Collingwood Magpies. 103,000 people expected at the MCG, with today a public holiday, parades, and Melbourne's sporting culture spilling into the streets. Go the Eagles!!!

Thank you to all of those who have made the fantasy leagues so enjoyable, but it is with a lot of thinking that I regret to inform everyone that I am stepping down from my role as GM of the Detroit Red Wings.

Life has gotten busy and I cannot uphold the standard I expect of myself in managing my team. It has been a great past couple of years with the group in this league, and I look forward to checking back in when I can to see how everyone is doing. The Red Wings have taken a while to get to where they are, but I feel the team should be in good hands with all the youth that is being injected into the line up year after year.

To all the GMs, thanks for the endless hours of fun through trade talks and negotiations. There is a great group of guys in this league, and I hope everything goes well for the upcoming season and beyond.

Cheers,

RL.

SIGNING: The New York Islanders have signed goaltender Jonathan Bernier to a 2 year deal.

small.png Jonathan Bernier - 2 year, $5 million dollar contract ($2.5 million per season)

Happy to finally add a back up goalie we can rely on. We feel Tuukka and Jonathan will make a great 1/2 duo. With that said, here is the projected opening lineup for the New York Islanders. Some minor signings still to come as well.

@canuck2xtreme Can you please have the below reflect the team sheet Please and Thanks

Recall: New York Islanders would like to Recall Henri Jokiharju to the main roster

We stuck it up em'! How's this for a bump from a little guy? On the games biggest stage, in front of over 100,000 fand! Liam Ryan ladies and gentleman;

And key moments. Same guy catching the most influential mark of the game at 1:35 of this clip. Flying high! What a great athletic sport! The sequence of 20 seconds, in a game with FOUR 25 minute quarters from 1:20, a huge intercept mark (steal), Liams mark at 1:35 and a tight goal for the winning margin.  Ahead only 7 of 100 minutes.

Our West Coast Eagles, Grand Finals winners 2018!

Thanks for letting me indulge my other ''home'' team! Our ''minors'' system training sideline...

Bring on game one of the NHL!

I know this is a little but trite however I really dislike Eddy McGuire and even though I am a Victorian I was glad to see the Eagles win.

That game and the final series illustrated how a salary cap and drafting system that is very similar to North American sports leagues has evened the competition out.

We have yet to see the real impact of free agency I believe.

Today there was no real standout player on either team, it was really a team effort.

There was a couple of big moments as you stated and that hit was a beauty.

However I think it was McGovern's mark in the backline, their quick transition and the goal from the boundary line that gave them the lead with just 2 minutes to go that was the real key point in the game.

They missed a lot of easier chances in the preceding 10 minutes.

I will tell you about our half time sprint when we talk next.

It made it one of the most unforgettable grandfinals in nearly 50 years of following this game.

What I will also note is the genuine warmth and respect that AFL players have for one another after playing such a physical game for 80 minutes.

Good stuff.

ELC SLIDE: The Rangers have filed a request to have the contract of Adam Ruzicka slide. This is the first year of his ELC and we have invested 8 million into the Player Development side of the Front Office.

For clarity, as I am confused on the rules: He was signed at the end of our season, in prep for this season...and possibly after that we set our front office budgets. I am not sure when that budget was set but I would have to guess after the player was technically signed but before the first season of that contract.

Let me know how the executive interprets the rules, and hopefully that 8 million isn't totally wasted. If we are allowed, then Adam Ruzicka will slide please.

The Habs remain in the market for a d-man. We'll be looking to move a forward for one, as we have too many projected to be on NHL lineups to break the season. It's a nice problem to have.  Willing to make a big splash or a smaller one. The waiver wire could also be hit up.

Current lines at Habs Camp:

Hall - Duchene - Giroux

Galchenyuk - Patrick - Eberle

Panik - Strome - Blais

Clifford - Compher - Nieto

Formenton - Mamin - Svechnikov

Theodore - E. Johnson

Hickey - Pesce

DeAngelo - Juulsen

Lundqvist

Stalock

The Rangers Opening Night Roster looks like this, with Sekera going on LTIR on day one, and a player acquired yesterday slotting into the 4th line RW spot. I think I am ready for the season, despite two players that I thought would make the team need a little more salt down on the Lake Cowichan Lakers, and a disappointing free agency season...we will perform at an improved level and steadily work towards the playoffs.

New York Rangers

Thomas Vanek, Ryan O'Reilly, Kyle Okposo
Brady Tkachuk, Casey Mittelstadt, Bobby Ryan
Brendan Leipsic, Patrik Berglund, Justin Abdelkader
Colin Wilson, Lukas Sedlak , NEW PLAYER
Dale Weise

Marco Scandella, Johnny Boychuk
Brandon Manning, Mark Borowiecki
Connor Murphy,
Andrej Sekera

Semyon Varlamov
Joonas Korpisalo
