Just moved, found boxes of old cards. Lemieux, Yzerman, Roy etc rookies, all in plastic cases. Lots of other cards...

that have value? is beckett's still a thing lol?

Those would definitely have value, especially if they're in decent shape.  Like anything it's hard to say for how much because you'd have to find a buyer (like I know a sold my Toews Young Guns for less, but I wasn't going to search around forever to get $45 more).

Beckett is still a thing, they've just gone online and have to pay $$$ to access many of the features, I'm sure.  I did a lot of my research there as you can see all the cards released for a certain player without having to subscribe.

$100 membership is only option??

I know you can do a month which is all you need if you're just curious.  Pricing guide for hockey for a month was $11.  I swear there was something that was $4 for a month but can't find it.

I got a bunch of older hockey and baseball cards lying around.  I don't know if they're worth something or who would buy them.  I'm more of a coin guy.

That's the tricky part.  It's one thing to know the value of your cards, another thing to find someone willing to pay that price.

Best bet would probably be a pawn shop, but you won't get much in return.  Maybe e-bay too.

Here is Page 3 (or 19 through 27 on the all-time games played list).  That Opee-chee set where I have the Tony Tanti card there is probably my favourite Opee-chee design of all-time.  I tried to use it as much as possible in the binder.

Also, tell me I'm wrong, but the Score silhouette in the bottom right corner of their cards is based off of Jim Sandlak.

Just sent off 210 cards to PSA for grading. Mostly modern Young Guns, but also 15-20 cards from the 1970s and early 1980s. PSA is super backed up right now, so probably won't have my cards back until early 2021. Pretty nervous about dropping $3000 on grading, but the way that sports cards are blowing up right now, it could be a pretty big win. I'll keep one copy of each PSA 10 and the vintage for my personal collection, and hopefully trade/sell the rest.

PSA is one of the two major grading companies for hockey cards. The other is BGS. It works out to about $15 CAD after you include postage, card cases, etc...

is there really a blow up in card values? i have mostly 80's early 90's stuff. roy, yzerman, lemieux rookies, that kind of thing

Early 90s stuff is still worthless.

Modern rookies like McDavid, MacKinnon, Draisaitl, etc... are blowing up in price. Vintage rookies like Gretzky are going up huge too. Lol still lots of 90s stuff around, and no one wants it, because everyone already has it.

So, things are coming together and pages are getting completed.  I'll post a bunch of them now.  It has been a lot of fun putting this binder together.  I might do one more little order to try a different online site but I'm done buying cards probably until next Spring (need to pace myself, lol).  By my count I need a shade under 80 cards to have every player that has played a regular season game in a Canuck jersey their card in a Canuck jersey.

Starting with Page 1 (#'s 1 to 9 on the all time games played list).  I love that photo of Naslund on his card.

Page 2 (#'s 10 to 18 on the all-time games played list).  I really like the 09/10 Upper Deck layout (Kevin Bieksa).  Tried to get that a few times in the binder.

I'll post more later.  I'm waiting on an order that contains a Markus Granlund that will complete a "Canuck page of angst, frustration and woe"....yes, Messier is on that page.

Not too bad so far.  All those cards, so far are from three sources

1.  My half of the collection (shared with brother) growing up.  Most of the mid 80s to early 90s cards came from that (plus a few from the late 2000s).

2.  Wiser's Wide World of Collectables in Langley.  Most of the cards from the 70s to early 80s you see there are from there.  They had a (1000 count?) box full of just Canucks.  I bought a very generous stack there for a reasonable price.

3.  Sportlots.com - for filling in gaps.  Most common cards sell for $0.18 USD.  For hockey, there are plenty of sellers from Canada.  The trick is to get enough cards from 1 seller to make shipping cheaper.  I generally could get 25 cards for less than $10 after exchange and shipping  fairly easily.

I want to try comc.com eventually as they have certain cards that I'll need that Sportlots does not (not sure if anyone here has every ordered from there?).  I use that site to actually see what the card looks like before I order it from Sportlots.

By my count I need 77 more.  My goal for this time next year is to maybe get half of those (heh, once again pace myself).  At some point I'll go through my list of Canucks that don't have cards and double check there aren't any other "Mario Marois's" out there (those that are in a Canuck jersey but the card says a different team because they got traded).  Of course there will be cards for new Canucks too.  Currently Bailey, Benn, Juolevi, DiPietro, Fantenberg, Domingue, Graovac, and Leivo do not have cards as a Canuck.  I'm sure 20/21 sets will include a few of those.

They tricky ones will be players that only have their cards from "Team Sets" or Mike Keane whose only card in a Canuck jersey is from a set Sav-On-Foods released.  Not sure where I'll find those.

Regardless, it has been a lot of fun putting this together and I'm sure will be fun to keep up with as new Canucks come about (my way of collecting cards without splurging on boxes, etc).

Got another package in the mail of 25 cards today.  I don't think I've ever been so excited to see Markus Granlund as this now completes Page 12, or as I call it, (with apologies to Boldirev and Grisdale) the Ultimate Canuck page of Frustration, Woe, and Doom.  How 7 of these guys and their dark roles in Canuck history ended up on 1 page is kinda funny.  You got

  • the anger from the Granlund/Shinkaruk trade
  • the angst from Delorme's tenure as head scout
  • why couldn't the Canucks resign Larionov?
  • playoff failures of Dan Cloutier
  • MESSIER
  • possibly the worst trade in Canuck history
  • Sbisa's pizzas

Page 13 features The Flow...for now (Boeser most definitely cannot get traded part way through next season or else he'll be on the Ultimate Canuck Page of Doom and the trade will certainly backfire).

Just re-read this thread. To clarify, it's only the 90s stuff that isn't going up in value. Cards like Roy, Yzerman, and Lemieux rookies, which are from the early to mid-80s are going up in value quite a bit.
