I think that program has only had one of their players picked in the NHL draft. Bentley is probably somewhere around 40-50th in the national rankings. Still, just looking at both of McDonough’s goals, those are some pro level finishing skills and scoring instincts he’s showing off, regardless of the quality of competition. He’s really good at anticipating the play and sliding into soft areas. And when opportunities come, he has the high level finishing to really take advantage. And for a pretty big guy, and also a known primary scoring threat who his opponents should be keying on, he seems to find ways to get to open ice, unmarked by defenders, and often inside the high danger scoring areas.
