Slava Voynov - Bryan McCabe [A]

Pavel Kubina - Ian White

Andy Sutton - Anton Stralman

Mike Smith

James Reimer

With Rene Bourque coming in and Henrik Tallinder going out, this makes Toronto's winger depth better than I thought. Andy Sutton will be drawing in with Tallinder gone, so he'll get time to step up. But my defense is in tough. In order to try and beef it up, the following players are available:

Darren Helm

Nikolai Kulemin

Leo Komarov

To EDM: Alex Steen
To MIN: Kevin Shattenkirk, Andrew Cogliano

Tough to give up a great player in Alex but we are happy to add a great defensive prospect in Shattenkirk who we feel can step into a role for us in another season and provide good offensive punch. Cogliano will be a good fit for us in a bottom-6 role long term.

This gives us some cap flexibility to target a center in ufa to play with Gaborik.

thx umb for the smooth negotiations

RFA SIGNINGS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Now that we have multiple seasons under our belt, and player and prospect progression and production is more clear, the following amendments to the RFA guidelines will be put in effect. Please note there are no changes to the UFA guidelines at this time:

1. All 5 year contracts on "unproven" players are not subject to the guidelines. These players will be paid according to their potential on a case by case basis and the agent will work in tandem with the commissioner to ensure the player is adequately compensated.

(this has been in effect for a while now, ask KJ).

2. ICE TIME will be taken into account for all signings - underperforming players with potential not playing on the powerplay will not be taking discounts

3. CONSISTENT players (same or similar production 3 seasons in a row, generally over the age of 23) will not take as sizeable a discount on 1 and 2 year contracts as inconsistent/developing players. These players have "earned" a 5 year contract and won't be cheaper for the sake of it. Expect their salary to fall between the 1-2 year guideline and the 5 year guideline.

(this was trialled this offseason, and worked out pretty well I think).

For close to 90% of players there will be no change to how contracts are conducted. Please keep this in mind when sending offers in the future.
