Caboose
Nashville Predators Season in Review: Team Awards: MVP: Spoiler 2008-09 - Martin Erat 2007-08 - Paul Kariya 2006-07 - Kimmo Timonen Best Defenceman: Spoiler 2008-09 - Shea Weber 2007-08 - Tomas Kaberle 2006-07 - Kimmo Timonen Unsung Hero: Spoiler 2008-09 - Alex Goligoski 2007-08 - Lee Stempniak 2006-07 - Ryan Johnson Best Player Acquired from the Lighting Spoiler 2008-09 - Kyle Mclaren 2007-08 - Tomas Kaberle 2006-07 - Brad Richards Most Exciting: Spoiler 2008-09 - Patric Hornqvist 2007-08 - Marek Zidlicky 2006-07 - Martin Erat Despite being heavily favoured to once again win the Central Division and make a deep playoff run, the Nashville Predators were beat to the title by upstart Chicago Blackhawks on the last day of the season, and subsequently trounced in 5 games in the first round by the Minnesota Wild. Immediately following the playoff exit, Nashville GM Caboose sounded the alarm. It seems he was incredibly disappointed with the end of the season, and later that week fired head coach Barry Trotz. GM Caboose will take over coaching duties for the 2009-10 season, possibly in hopes of getting a little closer to the action and seeing what issues are plaguing the Predators locker room. After firing the coach, Nashville made a blockbuster draft day trade, sending Tomas Kaberle, Alexander Radulov, and Pekka Rinne to the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for 90 point scorer Corey Perry, and two highly touted prospects D Nick Pageau and C Per-Olof Lundgren, as well as young goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. Pageau projects as a top line defenceman, but may still be 2 or 3 seasons away from making an impact at the NHL level. Lundgren looks to be much closer to the finished product, putting together an excellent season in the SHL. Look for him to make a challenge for a roster spot in camp. It seems Perry was acquired in a bid to make the team harder to play against, as Kaberle and Radulov were deemed too soft for the central division. Perry has been a thorn in the backside of southeast teams since his controversial trade to Atlanta, and looks set to plague the western conference for many years to come. It wasn't all doom and gloom in Nashville though. GM Caboose specifically signalled out rookie Patric Hornqvist as having an exceptional season, and looks for him to build upon that in an increased role. Young defenceman Alex Goligoski and centerman Paul Stastny both had excellent seasons as well. Armed with close to 10 million in cap room, Nashville looks to shore up its defensive and goaltending depth in free agency, two positions that were significantly weakened by the blockbuster with the Thrashers. Nashville Predators Pre-FA Roster: Martin Erat - Paul Stastny - Jarome Iginla Patric Hornqvist - Per-Olof Lundgren - Corey Perry TBA - Matt Stajan - Lee Stempniak Josef Vasicek - Dominic Moore - TBA Jay McClement Dion Phaneuf - Shea Weber Alex Goligoski - Kevin Klein TBA - TBA TBA Ondrej Pavelec 2

Popular Post Blue Jay 22
Atlanta Thrashers Offseason Recap: After another disappointing finish, big changes were made once again to a roster that was not able to compete in the fiercely competitive East. This offseason was headlined by a massive deal with the Nashville Predators that saw a lot of talent switch sides. Thanks are in order to the GMs of the Predators, Blue Jackets, Sharks, Maple Leafs, Islanders, and Hurricanes as well as the agents, slaves, and commish team for processing our roster moves and handling the Thrashers crazy offseason. After having no draft picks in the last draft and giving out quality young talent once again, ownership is expecting results from management and the team now...especially as rumors swirl that the current Thrashers ownership group have narrowed the final potential buyers to True North Sports & Entertainment, Mikhail Prokhorov, and a third unknown buyer. Congrats to captain, Ilya Kovalchuk, on winning the Art Ross. Hopefully a playoff spot this year boosts his chances in the Hart race after last year's 3rd place finish as well. Thrashers Pre-UFA Roster Ilya Kovalchuk - Pavel Datsyuk - Alexander Radulov Johan Franzen - Matthew Lombardi - PA Parenteau xxxxxx - Tony Martensson - Nikolai Kulimen Leo Komarov - Kyle Chipchura - Trent Hunter Ex: Stephane Veilleux Tomas Kaberle - Paul Martin Ossi Vaananen - Ilya Nikulin Ron Hainsey - Denis Grebeshkov Pekka Rinne xxxx Could look for support on defense or maybe in the bottom 9 in FA with our limited cap space. Will also look for a backup G to our new goalie, Pekka Rinne. Edited April 28, 2020 by Blue Jay 22 4
