Carolina Hurricanes Pre-UFA Roster

Cory Stillman - Evgeni Malkin - Marian Hossa

Martin Hanzal - Chris Drury - Pierre-Marc Bouchard

Scott Walker - Mike Comrie - Rostislav Olesz

Nils Ekman - Peter Mueller - Joel Ward

Mark Parrish

Ed Jovanovski - Mike Komisarek

Tim Gleason - Radek Martinek

Brett Hedican - Mike Commodore

Jimmy Howard

Vesa Toskala

Could look to give some prospects (Anthony Cote / Cullen Hansen) a 9 game trial to see where they are at. Will look for LD support in FA but may be more likely via trade due to cap crunch.

Despite being heavily favoured to once again win the Central Division and make a deep playoff run, the Nashville Predators were beat to the title by upstart Chicago Blackhawks on the last day of the season, and subsequently trounced in 5 games in the first round by the Minnesota Wild. Immediately following the playoff exit, Nashville GM Caboose sounded the alarm. It seems he was incredibly disappointed with the end of the season, and later that week fired head coach Barry Trotz. GM Caboose will take over coaching duties for the 2009-10 season, possibly in hopes of getting a little closer to the action and seeing what issues are plaguing the Predators locker room.

After firing the coach, Nashville made a blockbuster draft day trade, sending Tomas Kaberle, Alexander Radulov, and Pekka Rinne to the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for 90 point scorer Corey Perry, and two highly touted prospects D Nick Pageau and C Per-Olof Lundgren, as well as young goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. Pageau projects as a top line defenceman, but may still be 2 or 3 seasons away from making an impact at the NHL level. Lundgren looks to be much closer to the finished product, putting together an excellent season in the SHL. Look for him to make a challenge for a roster spot in camp.

It seems Perry was acquired in a bid to make the team harder to play against, as Kaberle and Radulov were deemed too soft for the central division. Perry has been a thorn in the backside of southeast teams since his controversial trade to Atlanta, and looks set to plague the western conference for many years to come.

It wasn't all doom and gloom in Nashville though. GM Caboose specifically signalled out rookie Patric Hornqvist as having an exceptional season, and looks for him to build upon that in an increased role. Young defenceman Alex Goligoski and centerman Paul Stastny both had excellent seasons as well.

Armed with close to 10 million in cap room, Nashville looks to shore up its defensive and goaltending depth in free agency, two positions that were significantly weakened by the blockbuster with the Thrashers.

Nashville Predators Pre-FA Roster:

Martin Erat - Paul Stastny - Jarome Iginla

TBA - Matt Stajan - Lee Stempniak

Josef Vasicek - Dominic Moore - TBA

Jay McClement

Dion Phaneuf - Shea Weber
Alex Goligoski - Kevin Klein
