Stanley Cup Playoffs: Winning team isn't best team

The first round games in the NHL are imho the the most entertaining. Football playoffs take less time because each round is a best of one. If you really wanted to shorten the NHL playoffs, then don’t reduce the number of teams. Reduce the number of games in each series from best of 7 to the best of 5.

A problem with shortening to 5-game series, if you are looking for the best teams playing for the Cup, is that the better team is less likely to win than a 7-game series.  The shorter the series, the easier it is to get an upset.

If the lower seed steals game 1 or 2, they have great odds of taking the series.

Things aren't gonna change. Both the teams and the players want the income, so I dont see getting less than 82 games in a standard season anytime soon, and best-of-7 is a great format.

The best team wins the cup every year.

At that moment, on that day, they are the best.

The make up of the team doesn't matter, the payroll, the adversity, the injures....the luck. On that final journey, none of it matters.

The goal is the cup.

They go through one of the hardest tournaments in professional sports, to be crowned the champs.

The Best.

Nothing else matters.
