[Trade] Golden Knights trade Evgenii Dadonov, conditional 2023 2nd-round pick to Ducks for Ryan Kesler, John Moore (VOIDED)

The deadline is for players to be eligible for playoffs on new team. If it is a non-player like Ferland and pics can easily still happen.

That doesn’t help them clear cap space.

The reason they traded Dadonov is to free up almost 4 million.

If the trade doesn’t go through they have no way of clearing space to activate players on LTIR.

No they just wouldn’t be able to activate any players off LTIR.

Which you would think the league and the NHLPA would have a problem with.

They would need to find a taker for Dadonov on his list of approved teams or trade someone else.

Okay but Anaheim is still on his list so he can’t be traded there.

Any team that helps out Vegas now should be blackballed. No way anyone should help them unless they get a 1st round pick in return.

But we all know Bettman will just call up Arizona and tell them to trade for Dadonov.

Not just for the playoffs - players traded after the deadline can no longer play for the remainder of the season.  Ferland counts against the cap - there’s no cap space created by taking on an LTIR contract.

And what if no team is willing to help them out?

What would the league do to them if they activated players and were way over the cap?

Arizona might be on his no trade list.  Ownership there is probably not going to voluntarily add cap/salary when they are set to continue to lose money for the foreseeable future.

Whichever team is willing to help out should ask for a haul.  Could also force them to trade someone else instead.

They would have to trade someone else.  They have players who would draw more interest than Dadonov.

Welcome to “What’s a contract anyways?” where no trade clauses aren’t honoured and contracts mean nothing.

Hello Mr Gillis?  This Garrrry, We, the NHL, approve your Luongo contract, carry on.

Hello Mr Gillis?  This is Mr Buttman, we gonna change the rules retroactively and nail your Marchand to the cross.

Hello Mr Gillis?  This is duffus again, no we are not going to punish all the other teams that did this, just yours and (was it?) Jersey.

Hello Mr Gillis?  No there is nothing you can do about this, whatever were you thinking?

Hello Mr Benning?  See above and shut up.

Hello Mr Luongo?  Yes you can go to your old neighbourhood and act like a douche and work for your old team and still collect on your contract, which obviously sucked.

What I’m gonna guess will happen now is they’ll give Dadonov the option to waive for Anaheim and complete the deal.

Its either that or he waits to be traded to a team he can’t play for. Obviously he’s not gonna do that because it will hurt his future contract negotiations missing 20 games.

So basically he’ll have no choice.

He still has 1 year left on his deal so it's probably more important for him to land with a team he approves.

With only a 10 team no trade list he could end up a lot worse places than Anaheim.

Im gonna guess when he made that list before the season he thought Anaheim wasn’t gonna be very good.

Maybe he looks at Anaheim as a place he can go and pad his stats now. It’s not like it’s not a desirable place to live either.

He signed that contract with Ottawa who were amidst a rebuild.  Might be a location thing.  Granger wonders if it might be taxation with California particularly high.

He probably saw an opportunity for lots of ice time in Ottawa.

Anaheim is still rebuilding and he’ll have plenty of opportunity with Rakell gone now.

Also wouldn’t Ontario and California be pretty comparable in terms of high tax rates?
