He played the entire game that way.  It's certainly worth going back and watching his play in that game, as it is indicative of his play all season.  He reminds me so much of the "Donut guy" we used to have, what-his-name....Kyle wellwood.  Except Boeser can actually score on PP's - which does give him a bit of worth but not $7.85 Million !

Notice how podz also hasnt been as affective playing on a line with boeser?   We rarely saw podz carry the puck the last 4 games.

Wellwood was out of shape but insanely skilled.  He actually generated chances consistently.

A lot less so he could have more total dollars on the longer term.

Maybe Bess accepts 6 x 5.5?

If Boeser is willing to sign with a cap hit of $5.5m or less, you lock him up for 8 years.  End of the day, he's a minimum 20 to 25 goal guy.  At that low of a cap hit, he will likely meet or exceed his contract value throughout the contract length.

Boeser after Boudreau took over: 19 goals and 36 points for a 0.73ppg (converts to 60pts over a full season).

Below a subset of his stats using tracking technology at the time of his extension.  He had played that 2018/19 season primarily with Pettersson.  Miller wasn't on the team yet. He was getting all types of scoring chances.  It looked like Boeser's high IQ and scoring touch was the perfect complement to Pettersson.

After seeing what Brock was truly going through, other than battling COVID and his struggles with Green as coach, he fully deserves another chance or two. Brock does need to improve his skating. He's  a wonderful quality guy who's well-loved and respected by his teammates.

Heartfelt prayers and thoughts to you and your family, Brock.

So is Brock about a 2 year x 6 deal this time?  Takes him to UFA status.  He plays great and he can get a bigger contract.

Or will he want security of term?  6.25 x 6?  Buy 4 UFA years, which is a risk for us?

Can't imagine if Wellwood was actually in shape what kind of player he could have become.

I think if it's 2 years, then we could possibly risk losing him for absolutely nothing.

I think he's got a high ceiling that, due to family issues, I think has really caused his game to regress this season. He's shown glimpses and flashes and he's still relatively young. Not old by any stretch. So I'd be willing to give him 4 years.
