Mike Bossy Islanders Icon passes away at age of 65

With perhaps the exception of Ovechkin and of course the Rocket, there has never been a goalscorer like Mike Bossy.  (although Bossy's goals per game is much better than Ovie and Richard)

I remember watching in the first few skills competitions in the Allstar game back in the early '80's.... Bossy was in the accuracy competition.

There were styrofoam targets on all four corners of the net and one for the five hole.  The shooter was between the two faceoff dots.

Bossy would break all five targets without a miss and would do it one after the other, backswing/shot/backswing/shot/backswing/shot/backswing/shot/backswing/shot

He had the most accurate shot I have ever seen... the goalies of the time just had no chance.

But of course, this was the '70's and '80's when the stars were routinely hacked down and crosschecked.

If Bossy had one flaw, it was that he wasn't great at avoiding checks... he wasn't good at what Gretzky could do, anticipate and slide out of the way.

So as the #1 target he got pounded, game after game as he worked to get position in the slot... plus usually a cheapshot after he scored.  And the result was, his back was shot by the time he was 30.

10 seasons played, 9 seasons with 50+ goals... only his last season when his back was completely gone did he score under 50.

Not a Superstar... (in my opinion, only Morenz, Richard, Howe, Orr, Gretz and Lemieux can be called Superstars because they dominated their times) but a really bright Star.

What a load of rubbish again from you! ... There was no skills competition in Bossys era!
