At the time of the trade I saw Dallas fans argue that they were skipping over development time by acquiring him, they'd have had to wait longer on any prospect they drafted with the pick they traded. Dallas also had little in the way of young high end RD on either the roster or in the system at the time of the trade, and there was never any guarantee there'd be one where they landed with the pick they traded. They were probably banking on bouncing back, so drafting in the teens or twenties, and it's looking like it was a good bet right now. One could point out it's a biased argument coming from Dallas fans but it's aged pretty well. Dallas has been great. Lundqvist isn't blowing anyone away offensively yet but he's quietly put up 7 points in 24 games, he's still young for a D at 22 and he's got a lot of time to improve. If he can finish the season with 20-30 points that'd be a perfectly acceptable rookie season. I thought a 1st was a lot to give up too but it was a calculated gamble.
