[Discussion] Will early exit playoff teams revisit Miller?

The Canucks aren’t shopping Miller.

Not a chance.   The trade would just have to be something a lot more lopsided than the one suggested by the OP (which is pretty fair so good job Provost).    They backed the horse that wanted to stay.   And two different management groups love the guy.    And 3 coaches don't have anything bad to say about him.     Not sure why us fans can't just enjoy and appreciate him.   We simply don't have the center depth we used to.   Imagine how much fun EP would have with virtually all the attention coming his way?     Not much i'm sure.

Miller has a couple gears.   Hope that the coaching change helps Miller commit to his craft this summer.    EP would not be happy if Miller was traded, his contract year, and had to do it mostly on his own.    Sure he'd be awfully miffed at this.   So would a lot of other players on the team.   And Tochett.   Miller has the right attitude when it comes to winning.   And puts team first.

Edit:   After his 99 point season ... Miller didn't seem affordable anymore.    He's absolutely fine as a UFA signing at 8 x 7 ... better than a lot really.   And did leave money on the table for Horvat.   Horvat didn't take what would have been still a more Horvat than team deal.   7.5ish x 8.   I'd much rather have a team guy.    Miller taking less, hopefully set an example when it comes to EP.    I'm pretty confident we are going to like EP's next deal, and pretty sure that we'd be absolutely screwed had management bowed to Horvats ridiculous asking price.   He obviously was a Horvat first player.    The team didn't even think signing Miller was possible.    Miller convinced them otherwise.

Blue chip UFAs you pay a premium for of course.     Miller earned every cent of his next deal.    It's truly too bad we had bad cap elsewhere.   Every team in the league would have considered, and a lot would have done the deal JB made for him.    Both bottom feeders and for sure bubble and playoff teams.   I for one, am truly looking forward to what sort of legacy JT Miller can cement himself, as a Canuck for 11 seasons.     He's proven durable.   Has a decent chance of retiring with us, as a top 25 all-time player or more.

I think they have picked their direction and it is to make a run at a wild card spot as fast as possible at the expense of whatever futures it takes.
Rebuilding the D requires losing a couple players and that is unlikely to happen this off-season.
More likely to burn draft assets to move some money off the wing and free up cap for a UFA 3rd line centre than trade Miller.

I think Miller is an important shelter glue piece that this team needs for the next 3-4 years while the team slowly improves its depth with quality prospects in all positions.

We need to find more players that cost around 1m per year and develop them into reliable players that can play up and down the line up. We also have to wait for a better time to move bad contracts, like Myers, and OEL.

Miller has a really important role to play on this team, he is the alpha leader who puts all the pressure of media and everything else on his back so that Pettersson and Hughes can do their thing. He is worth every thing he's getting paid and the thought of moving him should no be considered.

We have a 1st round pick this year and next year that will help to reshape this team. We did well in getting Minnesota's 1st round pick Filip Johansson and he will likely play a bigger role in Abbotsford next season. Also Hirose and Sasson were great signings and could make an impact on the team next season.

So to sum it up, our focus should be on moving out $$$ (not named Miller, Petey, Hughes, Kuzmenko, Hronek, Demko) and replacing that with younger more cost effective players. While were doing that Miller needs to hold this team together on and off the ice and make room for the young stars in Pettersson and Hughes to do grow with less pressure.

Salary to move or buyout in the next few years - OEL, Myers, Garland, Beauvillier, Boeser, Pearson, Ferland, Poolman, Dermott

Bang on.

Next move is to subtract inefficient and redundant contracts, which will hopefully begin at the draft.

Second is replacing them with better defensive talent to fill out our checking line, PK and D pairings.
