[Discussion] Will early exit playoff teams revisit Miller?

Recommended Posts

Two of the teams most heavily reported as being interested in Miller got sent packing in the first round of the playoffs.

There will be some more teams who get punted in the next couple rounds that may want a short term fix to push them higher next year.

I wonder if we will be revisiting potential Miller trades to open up some cap space.  Without Horvat, it leaves a holes… but with Miller it still leaves the team with other holes and also cap trouble.

As much as folks still think we will magically be able to get rid of a ton of cap space this offseason, a Miller trade represents the most likely way out of the cap dilemma.

Myers probably isn’t going anyways unless he wants to, even then it would be in September after his bonus is paid.  We “might” be able to move one of Garland/Boeser/Beauvillier… but maybe not as there will be many teams wanting to move off expensive wingers to make room for re-signing their own younger players due raises.  We probably won’t know if Pearson and Poolman are out for the whole season until it is too late to use their LTIR and will have to clear space assuming they come back.  If we make the mistake of qualifying Bear without a deal, we could face a nasty arbitration award that we aren’t allowed to walk away from that will exacerbate the cap problems.

Boston may be replacing Bergeron, so a deal may be back on the table.

Rathbone

Zacha

Carlo

… money is pretty even and we fill two holes on the roster for the price of one.

The Rangers always go for it and just whiffed badly this season on their trades.

They have long coveted Miller by many reports, and May finally be willing to pay a price for him.  Any of Chytil, Lafreniere, Kakko may easily be on the table.  Schneider may be a luxury they can’t afford with Fox and Trouba ahead of him on the right side.  Maybe they even feel like they need to beef up their forward group and K’Andre Miller is going to be too expensive on his new contract for their salary structure.

Carlo and Zacha are two guys who would make our team significantly better as they fill two massive holes in the lineup. Now their stats are a bit inflated playing on a team like Boston but both have size, play positions we are weak in, and are PK specialists. If Boston would do this deal i'd consider it in a heartbeat. I could also see Reilly and Myers with retention thrown in.

Sign me up. That would be a great trade.

I’d try and nab Frederic from them. He’s a pest like Kesler and could develop into a real nice 2B center.

Exactly. The offer for Miller would have to equal the cost for us to get a second line centre (that is U25 and good) and more for Allvin to consider it.

I've been thinking the same thing Provost, Pittsburg and Carolina could also still be interested maybe making draft day a good time to get a deal done?

I liked Miller since they traded for him right up until he signed the new deal then took the first month of the season off, he seems to get on Petey's nerves too but that could be just my imagination.

Well multiple reports said that they were working on deals at the deadline even after Horvat was traded so it doesn’t seem far fetched at all that they still would be.

I call bs on them. It was mostly that Pittsburg homer. If I were to guess id say they’ve taken a few calls but nothing serious and I don’t think they’d be shopping him now after Bo was traded

The argument that I heard today on 650 was that if they have designs on making the playoffs next year, and I think they do, if it isn't Miller, who's going to be the 2C?

They need to add a centre and if they move one, they would have to add 2.  This idea is just making a tough job nearly impossible.

Besides, where do you find a point a game veteran who can play PK and PP?

Also, does anybody really see one of our introverted superstars wearing a "C" next year?  Miller isn't perfect but he would wear it proudly.

Reports from who and where? Teams were asking on Miller but Allvin said there were no offers. If a club meets whatever the set price is for JTM then he’s traded. But that price will be very high. We have Miller signed to a great team friendly contract.

I don't see any first round loser chasing Miller mainly because they either don't have the cap space or the assets needed for Allvin to say yes to any deal seeing they all blew their load at the tdl.

What I can see is a desperate/impatient team like Philly throwing something at us to Miller that might work.

Miller is going nowhere for the next two years minimum.

Every team in the NHL knows you need two high quality centers to go anywhere in the league.

After Pettersson and Miller the Canucks do not have anyone who comes close to being a #1 or #2 quality centerman.

If the Canucks somehow end up with a draft pick that gives them a high quality center, then you could see Miller on the block in a couple years.

You would fill two massive holes but create an even bigger hole at 2C.  Who is playing 2C if we trade Miller for Zacha and Carlo?  Dries?  Raty?  Sasson?  Aman?
