  1. Acquiring him would indeed be a home run. I believe we need a vet presence of his caliber. He's still got some years yet to be an effective player. By virtue of his winning the big prize last season, he'll be hungry to win again. Can that can happen with Vancouver? I think we have the desire with the players and in the organization for such. It's just a matter of convincing any Pietrangelo type free agents with the dinero and want to be a part of the experience.
  2. We're on a roll with regards to the success of our drafting of late. The Judd man is integral to that. So..........What's the hold up JB......get 'er done already!
  3. Come to think of it, our old rivals, the Jets gave us some entertaining hockey. And it goes without saying other rivals of yore, Flames and Hawks. And pretty much every team in the early 70's had an automatic rival with the Habs and Leafs.
  4. Uhhhm....apparently you can buy size............Tyler Myers anyone?!?!??? The 1994 team had lotsa' heart, size and grit. They were underdogs compared to the stacked teams of the day; Rangers being one of them. That 2011 team was pretty damn good. Just needed better depth guys to fill in for the key guys that got injured. I really hope we can get the job done on all three of said players in the thread title. I'm holdin' out hope. But...............
  5. Imagine the upside these teams would have given the talent level. Moving players up and down the line would be a coaches dream. Really no weakness. Match ups with opponents would be hella fun.
  6. A big ass shut down D-man? I'm totally down with that. If Tree can be that guy and more, perhaps that makes Tyler Myers available for movement. TM acquisition seemed questionable to me and I still feel that way. Not worth the dinero we're paying him. However, it's only been 2/3 of a season he's played for us. So much uncertainty cuz' of Covid.
  7. Yea. I would include Neely and such. So long as the criteria is met that they played with the Canucks first. Like Gary Valk and Scott Walker didn't do much with us, but shined as Neely did with other teams.
  8. I forgot about Tanti in Chicago. And I truly thought Diduck was ours. But upon a search, you're correct on both counts. In that case..... D-men : Hughes/Ohlund : Edler/Lidster : Bob Daily/Juice Forwards : Twins/Burr : Linden/Bure/Kess : Petey/Larionov/Ververgaert : Smyl/Peca/Hansen That works, eh.
  9. Nice! I can totally see a Nubian Royal Starship coming in for a landing! So. Had to comment on this , but wanted to bump Utinen's thread for the purpose of discussion. Seems to me he's not talked about much in here. I got high on him after seeing him in the WJC's. Does anyone in CDC have thoughts of this kid? I like what I saw. He captained Team Finland and that's gotta mean something. I know he's not big. But in todays NHL, that seems not to be an issue. do you guys think he'll make the bigs with us?
  10. Sorry. no I haven't. the occasional highlights and such that's posted in CDC, but otherwise, no. Don't get me wrong. I'm hopeful about all of the prospects most talked about in here. The past few years since Tree bailed, he has been a subject in this thread since then. Obviously he's made an impression. tTruth be told, on me too. I like following our prospects and make a point of viewing any games on TV involving our own; College, CHL, WJC, etc. I rely on CDC of other prospects not viewable via TV. Much appreciated for sure. The highlights I see are as such....."HIGH" lights. Seriously. Most highlights are of good/great plays. And though I don't see how he plays in game situations, other than when he was playing for us, I have no other reference. If we can afford, (not financially) to put him on the team without seriously jeopardizing the team's performance, then I say let's go for it. Where do we fit him? Who do we let go?
  11. Just for fun.............. Some buddies and I got to discussing about an All Star Canuck team built for success in playoffs and possibly SC champ worthy. But only original Canucks. Needless to say, it seemed easy at first, and then got tougher. Especially when it came to goalies. So here's the stinky cheese............ - Any players from expansion on up, - Drafted by the Canucks, - Un-drafted free agents - College players - Euro league players - Prospects via Trades, but only if they never played for other NHL teams. I guess the College and Euro players would be Un-drafted free agents, but I put 'em in anyways. so...........................We'll start with: - Goalie tandem - 3 D-men pairings - 4 Forward lines. I'll start. - Goalies: Cory Schneider/Glen Hanlon - D-men: Hughes/Ohlund : Edler/Bob Daily : Didick/Juice - Forwards: Twins/Burr : Linden/Bure/Kess : Petey/Larionov/Tanti : Smyl/Peca/Hansen Your turn.......................
  12. Definitely think this is the time! I'm all for bringing in grizzled SC winning warriors. I know we have Pearson, Beagle, and hopefully Toffoli. I'm pretty sure Beagle will not be around in 3 tears, but the surely the two ex LA guys will. Seriously. What's considered a vet nowadays are guys like those two. Even now! Youngens such as Hughes and Petey must assuredly look at JT and Toffoli as such. Sure the 30plus guys have their place on teams, but that's considered old now in the new NHL. Trade the Flow?!?!?!?!?!? The acquisition of Toffoli definitely makes Brock an enticing piece for a fruitful trade. I'm iffy on this one. Flow's good buds with Petey and I think that dynamic is a big part of the vibe and chemistry this team is experiencing.
  13. Agreed! I'm not totally sold as some in CDC. I liked what I saw when he played for us. But him leaving for Mother Russia left a sour taste in my mouth. Unofficially, my understanding is his return is conditional in that he doesn't play for Utica. Now I realize CDC'ers generally want this kid playing for us. But do we really want to nurse him through the big leagues without maturing in the farm? Is this cause for concern? Does the forum peanut gallery have that much confidence that he'll make that much of an impact on his 2nd go round? I don't. And I think it's obtuse to think otherwise.....Mind you. I'm hopeful. If he can be as affective as a certain big Swede we had two decades ago, that also spent time in a Euro men's league. Well .........................
  14. The longer this goes on, the more I think they should just s##tcan the season. Accept what it is. A pandemic threat ain't no walk in the park. I say do the virtual entry draft, the virtual free agent frenzy, and cut yer losses!
  15. Bummer that he didn't pan out for us. Yea. I know...."But he got injured......he's got concussion issues....and on and on...." My views on the acquisition of Ferland were of mixed feelings at the time. As an original Flames draft pick, he was a project player. We certainly know of that. Goldy comes to mind. I hold no belief he will be a top six on our 'Nucks. Nor do I believe he'll ever play enough games in a season to make an impact. I'm I being a Debby Downer, or does anyone else share my thoughts......
  16. I was stoked when they called his name at the draft. Upon discussing Canuck drafts the day after at work, most of my coworkers thought otherwise. The reasons being him under contract and 'Nucks luck with Russian players. I said, "Are you kidding me? Did you even watch any of the WJC games involving Team Russia? That kid rocks!" I say let's get Podz signed, sealed, and delivered as soon as possible.
  17. This is great news. I liked this pick and he looked good in the WJC. Yes he's got skill and feistiness up the ying yang for sure. No denying that. I've seen him listed at both 5'8" and 5'9"; negligible I know, but he's still vertically challenged. For a winger I guess that's okay. He does play big for sure. I'm hoping the expectations layed on this kid don't get the best of him. I say let's get him as soon as possible to N.A. and get him some minutes!
  18. I like this Focht kid. haven't seen any Hitmen games, but I really liked what I saw in the WJC last year. I'd be surprised if he ended up as a useable 4th liner. I feel like he could be a gem and surpass any expectations!
  19. I know the consensus among most in here figure OJ's days are numbered, but not me. Injuries aside, I truly believe he'll be a stud for us. A perfect compliment to our current D corp. Though I still think we need D depth if we're to succeed in any playoffs.
  20. I searched far and wide for you and buddy, you're s##t outta' luck. I'm sure whole games of 3 and 5 are useless to you.
  21. Most all of any series I watched involved our 'Nucks. Yes. I'm a fanboy! Round 1, 1994 vs Calgary and round 1, 2011 vs Chicago. I'm sure there are other series that had better hockey and such. But when one is so emotionally invested in their home team, it pretty much clouds anything else.
  22. I know draft prospects are a crap shoot. Some research and browsing on said subject definitely attests to such. That being said, and I'm sure this has been touched upon somewhere else in CDC. Apologies to the Mods and such for not doing a search. I'm acutely aware of the Canucks dismal draft history. Some hits, but mostly misses. And never a 1st overall. (Mind you, we're not the only team to have that distinction!) The present Benning era has definitely brought some positives for sure. That being said; Are you confident in our as yet, unproven upcoming prospects? Is there perhaps one, two or more that'll not only make the bigs, but make an impact and surprise? I'm still holding out for OJ, I'm excited about Pod, and though Hoglander looks good and has provided some exciting highlight reels, I'm not totally sold yet. Excluding those that have played limited games with the big team, most of our prospects, save for perhaps DiPietro, maybe Lind, Lockwood, and Woo, seem to be just middling type players. Forwards being serviceable fourth line or third at best, and the D third or second pairings at best. Depth players really. I dunno.......Could eat my words....... I'm definitely hopeful on all the above and those prospects talked about in CDC. Seeing how some of them looked in IIHF Junior, CHL and NCAA College play gave some glimpse as to what we have in the pipeline; notably the above plus, Focht, Utunen, McDonough, Rathbone, Malone, maybe Costmar, to name a few. To me, the most hopeful prospects were either traded, (Madden), left the continent, (Tree), or died......RIP...... Others talked about, Brisebois, Palmu, Gadjovich.........And I haven't even mentioned Undrafted Free Agents or other team cast off Free Agents, Chatfield, Rafferty, Teves. I'm sure I missed a few....... Some are depth guys, some career AHL'ers, some total crap, as yet to see. Sooo............What's CDC's thoughts and opinions?!?!?!?!???
  23. Thanks for the up on the Seattle Expansion Draft. I don't know if this was posted in another thread but.............. https://www.nhl.com/news/commissioner-gary-bettman-on-scenario-to-resume-nhl-season/c-316699898 I know much of what's discussed in that piece is still up in the air. I'm not an ice arena expert, but you seem to know more that me. So......... "As many as four NHL arenas would host three games each per day without fans in one of the scenarios the League is considering to finish the season, Commissioner Gary Bettman told Sportsnet on Wednesday." Three games per day. Obviously the NHL big wigs thinks it's okay. I dunno. Like I said. I'm no expert. Truth be told, I've resigned myself to the fact that the season is done. I'm hopeful. I believe for the health of our communities is important and NHL Hockey on TV would aid in the mental and emotional states of many individuals in our country. (Canada.) However, I'm okay with whatever is decided. I agree with your last paragraph; just go with the things that can be done off the ice. A virtual draft and free agent broadcast might quell some anxiety from the absence of Hockey. At least it'll be something.
