  1. Tryamkin is almost certainly coming back. It's been pretty well documented (google is your friend). As far as the top 4 demands, he isn't exactly king sh!t in the K, so I think his demands would soften. Especially given how good/deep our team is now. That and we have a much more respected coach now. He'll def want top 6 minutes though. But he'll need to prove to Green that he's worthy of the minutes and I don't think any player, NHL or KHL should be any different. On the flip side, 2nd round picks don't grow on trees. For a guy I wrote off 2 years ago, that's a pretty solid return.
  2. Ya, I tend to agree with you about the timing of Tryamkin's arrival. We just don't need him at the moment. Maybe Tanev isn't re-signed? Maybe Stetcher is moved in the offseason? But Tryamkin doesn't crack our top 6 at the moment and we all know he has no interest in sitting in the pressbox. Honestly, with Rathbone, Woo, Juolevi, Rafferty, Brisbois, etc coming up (even Teves depending on who you ask) I wouldn't be surprised if Tryamkin was flipped for a draft pick. Although it might be nice to have him around for Podkolzin in a couple years. But our depth on D this year is the best it's been since our stanley cup run. No need to tweek anything right now.
  3. I mean, we're Canadian. Obviously we like Canadian players. But Canada is one of the most multicultural countries in the world. So when it comes to hockey, we like winners. Whether you're Russian, Finish, Swedish, Danish etc, it doesn't matter. Leave it all on the ice and the fans will love you for life.
  4. I agree. Guys like Goldy, Boucher, MacEwen and Jasek are first in line and rightfully so. Goldy and Boucher are both fighting for their careers, where as Jasek and MacEwen have been knocking on the door for a while and deserve a shot soon. Lind will get his shot, but the organization will be patient with him. Look for him to battle for a spot next spring.
  5. Martin St Louis didn't break out until he was 25. Not saying Palmu will even make it as an NHL player, but it never hurts to have these long shot prospects stashed away as Canucks property.
  6. I actually called him on his BS on twitter the other day and managed to get a response out of him. He was talking sh!t about how no other team was willing to offer Ferland a 4th year. It was classic JD taking another jab at Benning, even in a season where just about everything has gone perfect for us. Here's the screenshots. In true JD fashion, he doubles down on his horrible takes.
  7. Ya, I rewatched the fight just now and I can't see any punches landing flush. There were a couple that seemed to graze the side of his head but that's about it. So it's good news in the sense that he wasn't KTFO but bad news that glancing blows have landed him on the IR. If/when Ferland returns, is he going to be able to play the same role? I mean, we don't need him to be Mike Tyson but witht he style of game he plays, he's going to need to answer the bell on occassion. Hopefully we don't have another Derek Dorsett situation on our hands. Best of luck to Ferland while he heals up. Concussions are no joke.
  8. Breaking news: Star defenseman gets paid. Seabrook, Keith, Weber, Suter, Subban, Doughty, Karlsson, Truba, Josi..... Hopefully we'll be over paying Hughes 15 years from now.
  9. I agree but Travis and Jim both like Sutter and he has a big presence in the dressing room. So I'm not sure there's much of an appetite to trade him at the moment. As it stands right now, we have legit NHL options in Utica or in the pressbox at every position if someone gets injured. With our injury history, that has to be a good feeling. So when I think about guys like Sutter and Stetcher getting traded, I don't see it happening any time soon. We've been really lucky with the injury bug so far but you know it won't last forever. But if they were to trade Sutter, I think Bo would pick up some of those defensive minutes to allow Travis to shelter Gaudette a bit to start. Bo proved last year he could handle it and he still put up career numbers.
  10. What would you rather have, Gaudette or $6M in cap space for the next 3 years? It looks like we're a playoff team (knock on wood) and that $6M in cap space is going to be huge moving forward. That's potentially like adding another JT Miller in free agency. So it depends on what your thoughts are on Adam Gaudette? Because there's a very real chance that 3C is his ceiling. Don't get me wrong, 3C is a very important piece to any team. But more important than another $6M player? We also have Tyler Madden who's probably only a year or 2 away. Anyways, I'm just saying it isn't as bad a trade as you may think (Gaudette and Loui for futures). You have to take into account what else we could get for that freed up cap space.
  11. He could be shopping Leivo? I don't think he's in our long term plans moving forward, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was his last season here. Leivo is a good depth piece but we just have too many forwards and I expect things to get even more crowded next year with guys like Lind, Jasek and MacEwen pushing for a spot on the team. There's also a chance Gaudette moves over to the wing if we don't end up moving a center. So if I'm Green (and we all know he loves his 4th line) Leivo is the odd man out. Rousell's return is coming...
  12. Sutter had an untradeable contract 2 weeks ago...negative value. I'm happy too that he's healthy at the moment and has looked like a solid 3rd liner for the first 9 games of the season, but let's be a little realistic here. A pick and a prospect? A 2nd round pick? Not a camp dump? Sutter and his contract are less of a liability than they were 9 games ago, but he has a ways to go before he has any real value around the league. GMs make stupid decision all the time but trading picks and prospects for Sutter after 9 games is inexcusably dumb. If Benning could give Sutter away for free, he would. Gaudette is about to be shipped back to Utica. Sutter is liable to get injured again and lose all of the value he's rebuilt. That might not happen. Hell, Chris Tanev might play 82 games this season. But I know what I'd bet my money on.
  13. On that thought, is that really a bad thing? I mean, he's our 2nd line center. It's not like we're trying to free up EP for more offensive minutes. IMO, the next logical step for Bo would be to become a complete 2 way forward. I don't think he'll ever be in the Selke conversation but I think it's fair for us fans (and Canucks management/coaching) to expect that type of game out of Bo. If neither of your top 2 centres can play a shutdown role, that's not exactly ideal. Then TG will need to over play his bottom 6 to get the match ups he wants. Plus, if you asked Bo, he'd probably be the 1st one to say that he wants to be that reliable 2 way center that most contenders have. Food for thought.
  14. Interesting... My 1st thought was this is probably wishful thinking on our part. But then I thought who TF would give Benn $9.5 x 6? Because that's what's left on his contract minus 10 games. Unless Dallas retains or takes money back, that's an untradeable contract. I'm torn. Weighing the risk/reward, I just don't think we can take on that contract even if it means dumping Little Things. Benn is clearly on the decline and I'm not sold on him being the type of leader we want in our dressing room. That's a pass for me.
  15. Would you do Lucic and Calgary's 3rd for our 7th? Didn't think so.
  16. I know there's been trades where an acquiring team hasn't honoured a player's NTC/NMC. PK Subban was one example. Although his NMC had not come into effect at the time of the trade. https://www.capfriendly.com/players/pk-subban
  17. Doesn't Calgary need to agree to honour his NMC clause now that he's been traded? I forget how that works.
  18. I mean, 20 years ago you'd have to buy the newspaper to read an "open letter", so I don't think this is any different. I wasn't the one debating this with you though.
  19. I got my subscription because of Botch and Biech. I'm assuming Biech won't be covering the Canucks anymore on the Athletic after being hired by the team. Who else do they have covering the Canucks? To be honest, I haven't really used the subsciption much since getting it. But I was tired of seeing Botch and Biech's articles pop up on my Twitter last year, so I ponied up.
  20. I remember Zadina falling in the draft and being choked that Detroit took him 1 pick before us. Good thing I don't run our scouting department
  21. Sure it was dirty but honestly, good for him (and us). The kid can stand up for himself. Back in the day, you'd got a cross check in the teeth if you took a run at the wrong player. All of a sudden they aren't running you anymore. Funny how that works... Not to say that's where the game should be going, but I have no problem with an offensive player standing up for himself. We're not talking about a Brian Marchment or Scott Stevens here.
  22. You're probably right. But Jake has: A more rounded game The ability to drive play Size and physicality More speed More of a knack for goal scoring More value around the league Also, just a guess on my part but I think maybe Jake reminds Travis of himself as a young player trying to make the jump to the NHL. Travis was an elite scorer all the way through Junior. When he got to the NHL (and to a lesser extent the AHL) he had to change his game, learn how to play 200 feet and play with an edge. He had to learn how to have an impact on the game when he wasn't scoring and that's where Jake is at right now. So I think Travis is confident he can turn Jake into a real player for us. I'm not sure Goldobin has the ability to be that player. Also, about Schaller. He's strictly on the team to play a 4th line shutdown/energy role. Neither Goldobin or Baertschi can play the role (unfortunately).
