Luongo To Submit Shortlist (Chicago, Florida, Toronto, Tampa Bay)

Canucks general manager Mike Gillis will speak with star goaltenderRoberto Luongo in the next few days.

Luongo has declared a willingness to waive his no-trade clause - if the Canucks ask him to do so.

It's believed Luongo would prefer moving back to Florida, provided there's interest from either the Florida Panthers or the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks are also on the 33-year-old goalie's list, although Luongo could have reservations accepting a trade to either team given the fiercely competitive market that feeds off the Maple Leafs and the emotional scars that may still exist from his battles with the Blackhawks.

And Chicago, Toronto and Tampa Bay are in need of stability in goal.

The Leafs will show an interest in Luongo, but his status as an elite goaltender is fading. The team that lands him should expect quality play for the next 3-5 years, which leaves the additional six years remaining on his contract of predictable risk.

So the Canucks may have to take a contract back to sweeten the pot.

If we use the Maple Leafs as the example, perhaps defencemanMike Komisarek (who has two years remaining at $4.5 million per) is asked to be part of such a deal?

The bottom line is that there will be trade interest in Luongo.

How much depends in how creative the Canucks are willing to get to move him.

With Cory Schneider about to become a restricted free agent and a year away out from unrestricted free agency, much of the Canucks' offseason will be spent focused on its crease.

Come on, Tampa!

Their jerseys are sick, they've got Stamkos, and NO MEDIA

Toronto sucks, I definitely hope we don't trade with them. They have nothing on the current roster or in the farm that we should be interested in.

Then again, we know their draft picks we always be high for years to come.

:bigblush:

"Sources say..."

Are those the same sources that are close to celebrities that reveal all kinds of false nonsense to the press?

If he is going to submit a list, that means Gills officially asked him to waive his NTC. Wouldn't that be the first step in the whole ordeal anyway and the one that should get released to the press first?

1. Gillis asks for the waive.

2. Lu submits list

3. Negotiations begin.

People are jumping the gun again.

Maybe Burke will overpay. Luo and Raymond for Kadri, Schenn and the 5th overall? Pretty much the only 3 players on Toronto that I would be interested in.

I REALLY hope trading Lu is the right decision here. I'm not 100% comfortable with an unproven goaltender as our #1. Not taking anything away from the great play of Schneider, but what makes him different from any other goaltender in that it will be just a matter of time before the fans in this city start calling for his head too? Trading Lu is a high risk move.

I'd tear up if we ended up getting Jake Gardiner, but I'd lose sanity if we got Gudbranson.
