Vlas=d
semin would thrive on a team like boston where he wouldnt need to stick up for himself. As for his shot there are more than a "couple" video's he literally has the best shot in the nhl. Every one of his goals is a highlight reel. Tangerines
Kind of reminds me of a young Kovalev. Great offensive player. I think he would look great with Kes, and Booth on the second line
.Naslund
He'll want a boatload of money probably, so unless he goes to the KHL, I can see a team that needs to reach the cap floor go after him
EvoLu7ioN
If he goes to Detroit and plays with Datsyuk he'll pot 40 goals if he can stay healthy. Such a filthy release on his wrister, easily the most elusive shot in the NHL.
Guest Dasein
I watched the Capitals carefully in this year's playoffs, and I thought he was good in both zones for the most part. There were definitely some parts where he was lazy, but when there were odd-man rushes going the other way, I saw Semin backcheck really hard to get back into the play a few times. With Semin, there's no question about his skillset - he's one of the best. But the question is whether you can get that out of him or not. I think the best chance to get his best out of him would be to have another older Russian veteran on the team as a leader that would guide him to be a professional. In that sense, I think the team it makes most sense for Semin to sign with is Detroit because of Pavel Datsyuk. Datsyuk is respected to be one of the best players in the game both offensively and defensively, and he is a leader in Detroit. If there is one player in the NHL that Semin must respect, it's gotta be Datsyuk. I wish we could get him, but it's probably going to be Detroit. Dr.G
Is that why Semin was riding the bench in the 3rd, playing less mintues then previous playoffs, and was put on the 4th line? Or was it that, he had a great playoffs because we didn't notice him out there?
Dr.G
Yah, this is the type of guy I could see getting huge overpayment, considering he will probably be the biggest fish on the market. Kovalchuk 2.0 anyone?
Boudrias
i wouldn't be surprised if he went to Anaheim. He would be under a coach in which he succeeded before and he would be in a smaller market, thus reducing the criticism he would receive. Bruce Boudreau is an offensive specialist and there is no way Semin wouldn't be attracted. Obviously, the money matters as well and Bob Murray probably would not pay for what he is asking. But there is always a possibility considering the offensive system and lack of criticism from fans and media.
CHIPS
Semin is not a floater. A floater IS Semin. Rather have Zherdev tbh. That guy will come much cheaper and would work hard to rebuild his career.
Edlerberry
I disagree I can see a dumb GM throwing 6-8mil at him.
Edlerberry
With all the free cap space they have, they could get both Parise and Semin. As well as a few other guys like Jokinen and Moen Parise - Datsyuk - Franzen Semin - Zetterberg - Jokinen Damn...
Buttock
Lots of dumb posts in this thread. Semin's good and he's going to get paid. Detroit is my guess. Losing him for nothing is going to be a bigger blow to the Caps than people think.
Spectacular
Too the people who have said Semin is bad defensively haven't examined his game enough and are solely basing their opinion off of Semin being a 'typical Russian'. He's gotten much better defensively and he backchecks quite well. His work-ethic has been questionable but his skill is just remarkable. It was obvious he was frustrated last season for reasons I doubt any of us truly know (we can only speculate). I wouldn't be upset at all if Gillis signs Semin to a 1 year deal for an all out cup run.. The line-up could use more skill seeing as we have a whole lot of hard workers compared to skilled players. One of the biggest downsides if Gillis gets Semin is that the top 6 will still be pretty soft unless Kassian can breakout into the top 6. Sedin(6.1) - Sedin(6.1) - Burrows(2.0) Booth(4.25) - Kesler (5.0) - Semin(6.0)

Vansicle
It would be a shame to keep him lol. Who cares if you put up a couple videos of him? I can put up some Cloutier vid's up too and make him look like a God too, but yea, he has a good shot, thats about it.
Dr.G
Good point. "408 points in 469 games over six seasons. He also recorded 34 points in 51 career playoff games" A good shot and that's about it.
D-Money
I've actually been a proponent of trying to trade for or sign Semin in the past. Just the thought of putting his shot with the Sedins makes my spine tingle. His consistency issues are well-documented, but his skillset is sorely needed on this team, who seem to be looking like the worst collection of shooters to ever win the Presidents Trophy (this past year, when Kesler's snipe took a serious step back). Then again, AV would probably HATE him. And he's probably still looking for far too much term/money. But if he took a 1-year, 5-million dollar deal to play with the twins and try to pad his stats for a monster deal? Sign me up!
Vansicle
I'm sorry, are those numbers supposed to be a counter-argument for how good Semin is. Because if that's the case, you fail miserably. To put it in perspective, 408/469 = .87 points/game. Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin's career points/game = .84; Ryan Kesler: 0.60. Playoffs: Semin: .67 points/game; Daniel: .70, Henrik: .75; Kesler .68. Based on the stats above, he looks like a pretty damn good player who is entering his prime. Oh, and "a good shot and that's about it"???? You haven't actually seen him play have you? Because if you had, you wouldn't downplay his shot as a 'good shot.' He doesn't have a 'good shot', he has the BEST wrist shot in the NHL, along with a cannon of a slap shot. Not to mention he's a damn good skater. All the Semin haters are engulfed into what they hear in the media about him not caring, being bad defensively, etc. Maybe if they watched a few games, they'd realize how false those assessments are. This guy would instantly improve this team beyond a shadow of a doubt. He has a rare skill set that can make him an elite player. All he needs is a fresh start. I'd take him over Booth, Raymond or Higgins, on the wing of the 2nd line any day.
Monty
Not at all. I was saying he's a lot better than people are saying he is. Not every gifted player has a well balanced two way game. Relax. We agree. I should have done something like "/sarcasm"
Vansicle
You didn't need to do that at all. Anyone with half a brain understood what you meant.
