Here is a NEWS article for the NEWS SECTION (for those having a hard time)

"We would upgrade our goaltending by the weekend if we could do it without taking away significant pieces," Nonis said. "It's not that we wouldn't upgrade. But for what's out there right now, we would set our team back, especially in the long term. And, we don't believe we have two goaltenders here that are not capable. We believe we have two capable goaltenders. Do we think they're NHL-caliber? The answer is yes, there's no question about that. The only question we have, and that people have, is the experience factor. And that's fair. You can't sit there and say we have two experience goaltenders because we don't. That's one area we would like to improve -- an experienced goalie that can play. At this point, there hasn't been a price reasonable enough for us to act on it."

GILLIS RIPS MAPLE LEAFS, TORONTO MEDIA FOR PROPAGATING THE NOTION THAT THE CANUCKS HAVE "ASKED FOR TOO MUCH" IN A LUONGO TRADE

"Fair value is different for every team that you speak to because they have different players, they have different concerns and different contractual issues that play into what they have available that you might want. The notion that we were asking for too much was floated in the Toronto media by a team that was extremely interested in acquiring Roberto and were using every means possible to try and force us to do something that we didn't think was right. That's nothing new in this business and it's' not the type of pressure that I'm going to succumb too."

"I don't care, there's a lot of stuff that's going to happen in the first two weeks of this season. If you start giving all-star players away you'll be at the bottom of this league in a hurry. So we have two really good goalies, I don't know what's going to happen with others team - players might not play well, there may be injuries that they have at that position which may change the landscape. But as it sits today, we need to get something in return that is going to help our team and we're not in the business of just helping other teams so...

I'm comfortable with both these guys starting the season here, I'll be comfortable if we finish the season with them. If something happens and comes our way that allows us to improve, then we're going to do it. And it's all subject to Luongo wanting to go to that city. So, it is a little bit more complicated than people like to think but we feel very comfortable with where we sit today with our goalies."

Gillis:

“We have a potential deal in place with one team that has to do something with another player that they have — and it’s not who anybody thinks it is — and so we have to wait. (But) we’ve been offered packages that don’t fit what our plan is, what we need,” said Gillis.

Like, how?

“Excess salary coming back with a [throw-in] player who can’t play in our lineup. They say, ‘OK, we’ll do this, but you’ve got to take this.’ Well, we’re not taking it. We’ve had lots of proposals like that with good pieces that can help us but the other part doesn’t help us, and oftentimes they have term attached to them, so we’d just be turning around and buying out a guy."

Bob McKenzie@TSNBobMcKenzie

For all the Luongo "buzz" today in media and on Twitter, a deal is no closer to happening now than yesterday or last week.

Bob McKenzie@TSNBobMcKenzie

It's possible the "mystery" team is actually FLA or PHI, which is no mystery at all but Gillis's quote (not who you think it is) ambiguous.

Bob McKenzie@TSNBobMcKenzie

In other words, there may be no "mystery" team. If there is - not convinced there is but allow for possibility - deal not imminent at all.
