Kumquats
Not going to quote everyone who is saying Messier is a dirty player but I remember one game where Mess was looking the other way and cross checked Doug Gilmour in the face. Later on the bench Messier looked upset that he did it to Gilmour and not some no name rookie. What a tool. Couldn't find that video but there's this:
Butters Stoch
Is it possible to have a thread related to Messier where we don't have to see his ball sack?

grandmaster
So the Canucks should reneg on a legal contract that they were stupid enough to sign (I mean really, who actually thought that the Canucks wouldn't increase in value over those three years?). And I have to ask; what exactly would be the basis of your counter suit against Messier? Not trying hard enough? Guess we could sue Naslund for the last 3 years he was here for the same thing, right? TACIC
How can you compare Messier's time here with Naslund? Do you know anything about hockey???? Wow

rampage
This will pretty much sum up Messier here : screwing Linden, taking a number of a deceased players jersey when it was retired, taking the C, bringing keenan, not a single playoff game. Rypien.4.Ever
Hey whatever. Money owed is money owed. Just goes to show you how cheap McCaw was over the years. FA had to come in and bail him out. And it won't surprise me if he also has to shell out some cash for the Bertuzzi incident. (Frack, could we wrap THAT up already?) I don't like how he 'came in here and ruined things' either, but Messier is a hall-of-famer and one of the most respected men in the game. Patching up how he ended his term here can only serve to help our cause. It's good to see that we are no longer bush.

Canucklehead420
Same old CDC. I can't believe this crap.............like kids in the playground wanting to get even for stuff that just happens. For a start I bet most of you and nearly all of the fan base were wetting themselves at the thought of the guy starting in Vancouver........typical. Suddenly now a guy who was a stellar performer in New York becomes "What really bugs me is how team management at the time completely bent over to sign this old fart to millions" Are you listening to yourselves? He was too good for the Cannucks at the time..............plain and simple. It makes me wonder if your pants have even dried out enough yet to cope with getting Doan..............who also has all the credentials to be a "sign this old fart to millions" Doan the guy that MG is being pilloried for just now because he isn't chucking the farm at. Hindsight is wonderful..............and it lives and breathes in it's essence on CDC. Last 6 seasons prior to joining the Canucks. 1991-92.......107 pts in 79 games +31 1992-93.........91 pts in 75 games -6 1993-94.........84 pts in 76 games +25 1994-95.........53 pts in 46 games +8 1995-96.........99 pts in 74 games +29 1996-97.........84 pts in 71 games +12 Obviously we should never have signed the old fart................. 1983–84 – Stanley Cup Champion – Edmonton Oilers1984–85 – Stanley Cup Champion – Edmonton Oilers1986–87 – Stanley Cup Champion – Edmonton Oilers1987–88 – Stanley Cup Champion – Edmonton Oilers1989–90 – Stanley Cup Champion – Edmonton Oilers1993–94 – Stanley Cup Champion – New York Rangers1989–90 – Hart Memorial Trophy Winner1991–92 – Hart Memorial Trophy Winner1983–84 – Conn Smythe Trophy Winner1989–90 – Lester B. rampage
Playoff game? Have you even looked at the roster? If you think that roster could get near the playoffs even with a 25 yr old Messier you are living in dreamland.
Bodee
bit of a difference of character there. messier was counted on being the savior of the franchise and it seemed like he was just going through the motions. here to collect his money. you can tell by how much his point production dropped off when he came here and how it went back up when he went back to NYC. if we get doan he will be a key contributor but will by no means be counted on to lead the team. the sedins and kesler will still have this duty. Canucklehead420
You seem to be missing the point there. Are you suggesting that the Canucks team was as good as the either the Rangers team Messier left (containing Gretsky or even the team he went back to......... 2 Brian Leetch 1968-03-03 32 D 82 21 58 79 34 -18 -- -- -- -- -- 93 Petr Nedved 1971-12-09 28 L 79 32 46 78 54 10 -- -- -- -- -- 14 Theoren Fleury 1968-06-29 32 R 62 30 44 74 122 0 -- -- -- -- -- 20 Radek Dvorak 1977-03-09 23 R 82 31 36 67 20 9 -- -- -- -- -- 11 Mark Messier 1961-01-18 39 C 82 24 43 67 89 -25 -- -- -- -- -- 27 Jan Hlavac 1976-09-20 23 L 79 28 36 64 20 3 -- -- -- -- -- 13 Valeri Kamensky 1966-04-18 34 L 65 14 20 34 36 -18 -- -- -- -- -- 18 Mike York 1978-01-03 22 C 79 14 17 31 20 1 -- -- -- -- --
Teksys
F*** Messier. He did nothing for our team but ruin the chemistry and steal the "C" from Linden. Then again management let him. Thank God they don't still run this team. Messier is a piece of crap and gets treated like a God. What a joke.
