A lot of people now believe that Terry Pegula (owner of the Buffalo Sabres) is going to take a serious run at buying the Bills. He was already worth $3.3 Billion dollars before he sold huge tracts of land that he owned over the Marcellus natural gas shale area for another $1.75 Billion last week. After taxes that will make him worth just about $4.5-$4.75 Billion.

He has expressed interest in the past about owning the Bills. He was also once a long-time season tickets holder back when he also was a Sabres season ticket holder.

Because of that jackass Sterling in the NBA, the price tag for professional sports franchises skyrocketed the second that Steve Ballmer put his pen to a piece of paper saying that he would buy the Clippers for $2 Billion.

An NFL team is worth much more than an NBA team. Now Terry Pegula has the liquidity to buy them outright. The saving grace though is that any bidders that want to relocate the Bills within the next 6 years would have to pay $400 million to do so.

Jokers like Jon Bon Jovi's potential group are now basically out of the running. Over the last few years, Toronto couldn't make it any more obvious that they don't want an NFL team.

^ Damn. I'd say it would take around $2.5 Billion at least to get the Bills. The NFL is America's sport so it's significantly more popular than the NBA. If I was Bill Gates i'd throw a $3 Billion offer to all my favorite sports' teams.

Bill Gates would want to move any team he bought to Seattle. Fortunately Seattle already has the Seahawks.

If Ballmer does end up with the Clippers, he will eventually bring them to Seattle. He can deny it all that he wants to.

The Bills are valued at $900 Million. It peeves me off that they could end up selling for more than twice that.

U.S. Patent Office Cancels Trademark For Redskins Football Team
The United States Patent and Trademark Office has canceled six federal trademark registrations for the name of the Washington Redskins, ruling that the name is “disparaging to Native Americans” and thus cannot be trademarked under federal law that prohibits the protection of offensive or disparaging language.
The U.S. PTO’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board issued a ruling in the case, brought against the team by plaintiff Amanda Blackhorse, Wednesday morning.
“We decide, based on the evidence properly before us, that these registrations must be cancelled because they were disparaging to Native Americans at the respective times they were registered,” the board wrote in its opinion.

Snyder will have a decent chance of winning an appeal. It's pretty much pointless anyways. Nobody else will use the name.

Means anyone can sell redskin stuff or use the logo without permission. If he fails the appeal and then changes the name it would look bad. NFL AM was talking about it

Next thing you know is that some church groups may force the New Jersey Devils to change their name because they represent Satan! :picard:

If it goes to appeal, he can get a temporary injunction. If the appeal is accepted by a court and then fails, then it can definitely hit him in the pocketbook.

If he changes the name on a failed appellate decision, it would obviously be for business reasons. He obviously isn't worried about what people think of him.

The Redskins are the 3rd most valuable NFL team.

LOL - don't know if it's true but it is funny!

This is an email sent to Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune, after an article he published concerning a “politically correct” name change for the Washington Redskins.

Dear Mr. Page…

I always love your articles. I generally agree with them.

However, in this case, I agree with our Native American population. I am highly insulted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins. One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay. We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward.

Therefore, I suggest the “Redskins” change their name to the “Foreskins” to better represent their community, paying tribute to the dick heads in Congress.

More, let’s also ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we also need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns.

The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of militant Blacks from the 60′s alive. Gone. It’s offensive to us white folk.

The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to that tragic war that cost this country so many young mens’ lives.

I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our sports team names. Totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres.

Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged. We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates!

Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children . The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or even spending habits. Wrong message to our children .

The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a growing childhood epidemic. Wrong message to our children ..

The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates. Wrong message to our children .

The Milwaukee Brewers—well, that goes without saying . . . Wrong message to our children.

So, there you go. We need to support any legislation that comes out to rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become involved with this issue, as they should. Just the kind of thing the do-nothing Congress loves . . .

As a die hard Oregon State fan, with all of this in mind, it might also make some sense to change the name of the Oregon State women’s athletic teams to something other than “the Beavers.”
