umm, no hes not. I was at that game, he looks lost out there. Yeah he scored. But hes not "back". I hope we dont sign him again next year really. He fell so many times. And why does he have to skate really fast, slam on the brakes and then pass?? Can he not skate and pass at the same time?? Hes the only one on the team that does it too! Then he falls! He works hard to get the puck only to lose it again.

Single most dominate player on the ice? Really? I barely noticed him out there. Kesler is my least fav Canuck and I noticed him out there way more than Raymond. I dont know what games you guys are watching, but even people around me were commenting about how he works so hard to get the puck only to lose it. Its so frustrating. Yes he looks lost out there. He just circles around (and people watching the game on TV wouldnt notice it but when your 18 rows up centre ice, you tend to see the whole picture). Like I called the "back door goal" that Kesler scored on the PP about 3 seconds before the goal was scored, but he probably wasnt on the tv screen because he skated from the top of the circle. But back to Raymond, sure hes got 5 goals, so does Kassian. LOL. Hes not our best player. He still needs to work on his core strength. I still t hink its retarded how he skates , and stops to pass...and when he does it, he loses the puck....Raymond probably loses the puck more than anyone on the team. am sorry, I used to love Raymond.. when he had his ONE good year.

Agree with the OP. Raymond is a very valuable player and I always maintained the Canucks shouldn't give up on him. He is quite possibly the best player on the team at eluding defenders with his shiftiness and stick-handling, which opens up the ice a bit on a regular basis to either take a shot or send a pass.

Also, he's one of the rare 2nd round picks that have panned out for this team. Absolutely, re-sign him. He's a great depth player to have.

I've been a person who's constantly been on Raymond's case and I have to admit, he's definitely showing me up this year. I didn't want to disappear and hide when he's doing well so I'll come out and say it.

He's been a solid contribution to the team this year and I hope he keeps it up going into the playoffs.

Before everyone starts talking about Raymond "not showing up in the playoffs", remember that smaller players get somewhat overwhelmed by the intensity and the physicality in the playoffs. This is Mason Raymond we're talking about. He's not an elite smaller player like Martin St. Louis or Danny Briere. We can only expect so much of him.

In my opinion, as long as he's playing well in his own zone, consistently aiding in the transition with his speed, and producing the kind of offense you'd expect from a secondary player in a bottom 6 role, he's doing his job in the playoffs. No need to expect him to rip it up. That's what we expect out of the Sedins, Kesler and Burrows. They are our go-to guys. Raymond is not.

I suspect he skates fast, and then stops is because,

He is not very strong on his feet and he is scared of getting pushed or hit and losing his balance and slamming into the Boards at high speed?

Raymond has been contributing now more than the last 2 yrs and has more support because of it. He and JS can be a very good productive 3rd line for us in the regular season, I see his value increasing (Coho says hi) I would rather see some packaging done, and have a strong presence forward and a punishing defenceman added. We still dont have anybody menacing on our top 3 lines or a defenceman that makes people nervous. As good as Raymond has been I think we are missing something.(much like what every cup winner has had in the last how many years)?

Canucks need some guys to really start hitting opponents stars without taking penalties, instead of watching other teams take liberties (without penalties) against our stars, and dont be reactionary chasing people, initiate it from the start. Maybe it starts getting rough and the refs take control and tell both sides enough and to play hockey (which would suit us)

The key to Raymond continuing his success: resist the temptation to be a perimeter player! He is utterly useless when he does everything from the boards or the blue line. When he ventures into the red circle or in front of goalie: great.

That is the difference between this year and years past. Watch old videos to see what I am saying. Last year and even before his injury, he was too timid. Now, he seems to actually want the puck somewhere in front of the goal line. Good for him! Glad he is healthy.
