A 3rd Line That Could Lead us to a Deep Run

62 posts in this topic

While I agree with your assessment, I'd still be shopping Booth, anytime you can dump a bad contract you do it.

I also don't feel that Matthias is the answer to our 3rd line. He doesn't bring more than Higgins to the table. For now Booth Higgins Kassian is a good 3rd line until MG can swing a trade for something more significant than a Matthias deal; as he's not a huge upgrade over Lapierre Higgins etc.

After watching Booth and Kassian play together these last few games, it looks to me as if we have an awesome 3rd line in the making. Booth and Kassian are both big, tough guys that are very hard to move the puck off of. Exactly the type of players we need in the playoffs. It is also eerily similar to LA's 3rd line in last years post season:

Penner-Stoll-King

If we get an addition like Shawn Matthias in a Luongo trade or a player similar to that, our 3rd line could be Booth-Matthias-Kassian. Very big and strong 3rd line with some good skill as well.

I know Booth was initially brought in here to be a second line scorer, but it's obvious to me that he and Kesler don't gel, and Booth makes a great fit with Kassian. Also, with Pinnizotto looking great with Lapierre, we just might have a cup contending bottom 6. I think we should keep Booth, maybe even if its for just this year, but IMO, he could help us for a deep run.

That is a deadly 3rd line, but I thought Kesler & Booth had some nice chemistry going last year...Not sure we need to move Lu to make this happen either.

Not sure if Florida makes Matthias available freely, so he'd have to ask to be dealt.

But Luongo's not waiving to go to Florida now. Tampa is a more likely destination for him if a trade is imminent. Ryan Malone is healthy again.

Teams are asking for Schneider though.

Matthias is 45% on face-offs this year. He was better in previous seasons. But that number is concerning.

Other than that, I think he'd be a good fit. We need some size down the middle.

Matthias is going to be a star, no doubt in my mind and he is a huge physical presence. On a good team he will be even better.

Imagine this guy between Raymond and Hansen...............it would be hockey porn.

His single handed stick to puck handling is amazing.

Shoot out anyone?

Volpatti type checks just what's needed in the Playoffs

I know that everyone has been screaming about keeping some consistency with the forward line, but I'd like to see how the following line up would perform:

Line 1: Daniel -- Hank -- Hansen

-Hansen is on fire...his speed and tenacity is easily interchangeable with Burr on the forecheck, cycle and going to the net. The way Hansen is playing right now, I think he'd be the tonic for how stale the Sedins and Burr have looked the last few games. As well, Hansen looks like a quicker version of Mikael Samuelsson, who slotted in nicely with the Sedins when he was needed there.

Line 2: Booth -- Higgins -- Kass

-these three are looking like they are getting familiar and comfortable with each other...size is good. Scoring isn't there right now, but I think the potential is there. If we could get Coach V from screwing around with Kass, then this line may have a chance of developing long term chemistry...Higgins would have to improve on his face-offs though.

Line 3: Raymond -- Kesler -- Burr

-shutdown capabilities; Kes/Burr have history of chemistry; Kes/Mase have history of chemistry; have offensive capabilities, so could possibly play even against other teams top line. How good would that be if our shut down line is even against the opposing team's top line?

Line 4: Pinizzotto -- Lapierre -- Weise

-I could see this line being a good energy line that could bang bodies with regularity and kill penalties...would have preferred if Pinizzotto could play his natural right side and have Volpatti on the left, but that obviously ain't going to happen now.

Spare parts: Sestito -- Ebbett
