Secrets / Tips to beating the San Jose Sharks in Round 1?

Even if the Canucks didn't lose, far too many times have their sh1t the bed this season with shoddy efforts. Playing at 80% of their full potential, things like that. Granted they can usually pull it off but when you're three weeks to the playoffs and you're still putting out those shoddy efforts and barely winning or getting your ass kicked altogether, then it's a cause for concern. There was no urgency, nothing. And the last two games were incredibly disrespectful to Luongo.

The Oilers defense core looked better on paper that game, but not much. The Oilers now have blown just as bad ever since their Cup run.

You have to intimidate them with a strong forecheck... after that don't let them intimidate you with a Torres hit, because they will rally behind that sort of thing esp with a playoff ghost like Thornton... he may wake up from that sort of thing which will be scary for us because they have higher top end talent potential. If we shut their top few players, frusterate them and dont give them a reason to rally by scoring 1 or 2 and being VERY tight defensively... then we are ok... we do thsi for 2 games and they will rethink hwo hard they want to try in following games because golf is right around the corner.

The Oilers were playing that game like they were in the Stanley Cup Finals while the Canucks rested their important players and while icing a disinterested pre-season lineup that was more worried about not getting injured versus giving it their all to win a meaningless game. Would you have been happier if the Canucks won and lost a couple of key players due to injury? Throw the regular season stat in the garbage because playoffs will be different and we won't even be icing the same lineup as the one in Edmonton.

Stuart, Hannan, Boyle all have glaring weaknesses. They will break down against faster players and it'll be up to Hansen, secondary scoring to get them.Vlasic - Braun as shut down will probably be match up to the Sedins. Kesler will probably be tied to Thornton, which could present some problems, especially with the way Burns has played. Depth will be key, and the Canucks are desperately lacking a 3rd line center.

Niemi has made them(their defense) look much better than they are, this year.

Don't underestimate the sharks 3rd line. The can hit, they can score and they can defend.

Complete checks. SJ defence can be worn down if our guys keep at it.

Their 4th is horrible, so get a jump on them whenever you can. While on home ice, the nucks get final line change. Put out a line that can score on them. Stay sharp with line changes.

Shoot high on Neimi. Get in his face. Get on his nerves. Edler/Garri/Kes pepper him with hard slapshots.

Thorton his healthy this time and Couture is their best player. Burrows and Kes will be covering those two guys. Kes/Ham/Garri will be covering the one that is playing best.

Stay focused for 60mins.
