TOMapleLaughs
There was an under the radar comment about what was said to Luongo by Gillis/Gilman after he wasn't traded at the deadline. Basically, 'We went for a home run' and we struck out. This was after acquiring Derek Roy and after Gilman said 'we're all in' for these playoffs. Is there any info on what that 'home run' move actually was? Or was it just the attempt at getting 0-goal Ryane Clowe? Just curious to know this big move that we were rolling the dice on. What would have prevented the current state of embarrassment we're in and would've instead made us go far into the playoffs? Big deadline moves are motivational, but failed ones are deflating. TheRussianRocket.
Talk about beating up a dead horse, sigh.... Long story short - Clowe's price was too high, we never got him. We needed depth at centre, particularly a 3rd line centre heading into trade deadline, and Roy was available who is much more than that whether or not people realize it or not. His price was cheap, manageable, and fitted the teams role (A "versatile player"...he played every position on the team...PP, PK, 4on4, wing, centre). Idk about you, but just cause Roy never did so well doesn't mean he sucks...guy had less than a month to fit with the team; not fair treatment at all. Gross-Misconduct
Hard to say what 'the home run' was. Maybe Gillis wanted to go yard so he swung for the fences.
