Zack Kassian not what we think he is?

Ok so he is 2 months away from being 23, and this is his 3rd year in the NHL.

He has bad scoring stats, and He bring HIS A- game once every 3 games.

And he is really good when he plays like that.

In a few years he will be a good power forward.

But not anything near guys like Nash, Lucic or even Bertuzzi.

I know you guys keep saying he is only 22, but Lucic was a 30 goal scorer at 22.

Will kassian be a good power forward? Yes

Will be in the leagues top 5? Maybe

Will he be what we think he will be? (some say better than Lucic) Most likely not.

Will I get flamed for this? Yes

I agree - people keep saying he is young, he will develop etc. and you're totally correct, he is young and he will continue to develop. However, at 22 nearly 23 and after 3 seasons in the NHL we SHOULD have a fair indication of where he will be at in the next 2-4 years. He will be entering the prime of his career in 4 years time and at the moment is so inconsistent, lazy, doesn't drive the net anywhere near enough and has a LONG way to go.

Does that mean he is a bust? Definitely not. It simply means he won't reach the level of expectations Canucks fan have placed on him. He will never be anywhere near a Lucic, Nash or Bert...

Yup, but anything can happen, but come on people he is not that good as you think of him. He is good though.

Bertuzzi was playing on our 4th line at age 24.

Comparing Kassian to guys like Nash, Lucic, and Bertuzzi right now is dumb. These guys either got their shot right away on weak teams, or had to earn their way up like Bertuzzi. Kassian will have to do what Bertuzzi did to become a top player. that takes patience.

No wonder fans in this city are always so bitter. They have ridiculous expectations that are never met.

I'm a huge Kassian fan (even have his jersey) and of course he will not become a Lucic. Lucic is an absolute beast. Kassian is alot different than Lucic though. Kassian has smooth hands with good vision and passing which Lucic didn't have at his age. On the other hand Lucic just goes and destroys people with the body, so they both play a different style. IMO 3 or 4 years and Kassian will be a 2nd liner putting up 25 goals and 35 assists.

The problem with Kassian is your banking on his potential. He's definitely has more tools than Lucic. He's faster and more skilled than Lucic. The only thing is, Lucic has established himself to be a intimidating player while Kassian hasn't. Lucic knows his role and Kassian doesn't. He maybe lacking hockey IQ. Get Torts to develop Kassian's defensive game, and the offense will come.

It's plays like this that Kassian has to build off. He's got the foot speed now to make plays off the rush.

He just needs to simplify his game and focus on north/south. It's when he tries to make cute little Sedin behind the back passes that he gets himself in trouble.

Use the body to get the puck, take the puck to the net, park yourself at the net to create traffic. Simplify! Torts needs to drill home that message.

I don't have high expectations for Kassian? Did you even read the thread?

And Lucic has skill! He is just gifted with his Physical play.

Lucic has 12 points in 11 games.

here lies the main problem of the majority of our fans, and it is that they expect way too much on our rosters.

How many people actually expect Kassian will be on the same level than players like Nash or Bert?

There is nothing wrong with expecting Kassian to be a good powerforward in the future. Whether he will be an elite such as Bert and Nash would be a totally new question that would involve a lot of other factors. We can all hope he will reach that level and he certainly has the tools to get there, but any sensible person will NOT EXPECT him to get there.

and please dont throw lucic into this discussion. He's merely a product of being with teh Bruins which the league want to give it an identity of brute and puniishing. He will NOT be able to play the way he play now if he's on other teams.
